Hi Everyone!
Everyone was so helpful with my last request I thought I'd come at you all again. My daughter is 14 months old and hates to have her diaper changed or get dressed on the changing table. She screams, cries, tries to roll off...it's a big mess. It's to the point where I hate it when it's time to change her diaper because it's always an ordeal. I tried putting her on the floor, thinking it was just the table, but she rolled away then too. I tried distrating her with toys, but she just threw them. This morning she got dressed on my bed while watching Baby Einstein. Everything went smoothly. There has to be a better way! Any advice you could give would be great!

What can I do next?

My son is the same way and has been since he was about 10 mos old. I made the mistake of blowing bubbles at him while on the table a couple of months back, and now he associates diaper changing with bubbles. He cries for "bubbles" over and over, but once I blow some bubbles, it helps keep his mind off the changing as he is trying to touch them has they fall. Also, he likes to be sung to while getting changed. Sometimes nothing works, and I have to take him by the arms or legs (whichever is flailing) and sternly say "No!". It makes him cry harder initially, but usually he quickly settles down after that. Anyway, I would like to tell you it gets better, but for me, it hasn't. Good luck!

My son throws a fit too at diaper changes. I make up goofy songs and do whatever I can to entertain him while making the change as fast as I can. It seems to work. Sometimes I put him down on the floor with my legs on either side of him so he can't roll over. Distraction is the key!

Yes, I totally agree...distraction is key!!! It's like, once the learn to crawl and walk, the LAST THING they want to do is lie down for a diaper change or be still while they change their clothes! =0) I do lots of things to distract my youngest: I sing lots of songs! I'll ask him where his nose, eyes, mouth, etc are. I've been known to stick a tiny dab of baby lotion in his palm and let him rub it into his hands. When he was younger, I would give him this little mirror to see "baby" while he was on the changing table. Just anything you can think of! He's 21mths old now and a strong little guy! Will I ever be glad when the diaper stage is done! LOL Good luck! =0)

Try taping a picture on the ceiling. The tape won't destroy your ceiling and the picture can easily be replaced when she gets bored. Ours gets changed every couple of days. My grandmother gets magazines in the mail just about every day and she sends them to us when she's finished. That way we don't spend money on anything but tape! Hope it helps!

my little girl goes through stages where one day she doesn't care about getting dressed and having her diaper changed and other days it a battle. i say if getting her changed and dressed in your room while watching tv works, then jsut do that. it will save a lot of time and tears and frustration for both of you. i have to do that with my girl sometimes.

Oh how I know what you are going through! Bless your heart! I found the easiest way to take on the diaper changing battle is to first, go to them, don't take them and make them come to you. If she's sitting in the floor playing, just take your wipes and diapers to her and act like no big deal, wer'e going to change your diaper. Blow on her stomach, make goofy faces, but get her attention that way. Then after youv'e wiped her, blow on her little bottom to dry it faster! My daughter was just screaming as I was changing her diaper and I did these things and she just stopped and looked at me like I was some kind of a nut (maybe she's right) and then she laughed and it was fun. Good luck! They do like to make even the easiest things hard to do!
