My husband has type 1 diabetes, a good range is 80-150. Anything beyond that is cause for concern. He should really watch his intake on anything. Especially sweets.
My dad has diabetes. I dont know anything about it really, all i know is he said his blood sugar is over 700. i am sure that is bad, but i dont know how bad. Although i am scared to find out, i need to know. i searched the net and can not find information on just how bad that is.

My dad.. my mom.. my grandpa.. my uncle and Me all have diabetes.. i am new to it.. he needs to be seen and be taking some medicine.. if not he will start having organ problems.... What Angie G said bout infections.. My sugar levels were great right after i had my daughter.. than 2 weeks later i started having problems controlling it.. and come to find out my incision from my c section is infected.. and still is.. it will take months to heal.. Please let him know that its very important he sees a doc..
I am not sure how bad it is that blood sugar is that high. My mom was diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago. All we did was change her diet, took out the sweets and fed her healthier foods. Find out what it is that is causing his diabetes. After her diet change, she went for a checkup and her diabetes wasnt there as long as her diet had less sweets.
Dear L.,
High blood presure is bad it may cause a stroke or a heart attack, i was given highblood meds so i don't have a problem and with your father he is way high higher then i was and i was told to be very careful with salts.Have him eat alot of banana's daily. And with him having diabetes, that isnt good either if he doesn't take care of himself.
Your boold pressure should be 120/80 mine was 140/100 and i was told that isn't good so if he's 700 i don't know how he's getting around.but he does need to be cared for. where hes able to get it. And i really hate to say this by why isnt ur boyfriend working, is he diabled, I have been supporting my husband for 10 years and now with me not having good health im leaving him this summer, it's all a secret. because if it wasnt he's the type who wouldn't let me go. But i have been thinking about this since my son went into the Navy. I believe if he could be strong enough to do it then i'm strong enough to find a new life. I will pray everything works out for you.
He need to see a doctor i am also diabetic have him drink only diet juices and sodas. have him eat no more than 1/2 cup of pasta or any high carb food. Read the list of nutrients it will help you decide if he should have it .Remember to check everything the numbers add up fast no more than 40-60 carbs per meal. Be very careful sauces ar full of cards as well. Check everything. best of luck Krissy
700 is very high, nearing diabetic coma range. I hope he has seen a doctor...
When my mom had that high of a blood sugar reading she had a severe infection and almost died. Infections can cause a spike in blood sugars. He needs to go to the hospital and get it brought down to a good level asap, because he could go into a diabetic coma, or worse.
You have a lot on your shoulders - so first of all, breathe! There, now the answer to your question: A blood sugar reading level of 700 is extemely high - normal blood sugar levels are under 200 preferably under 150.
That being said, the problem has been caught, and can be corrected. Through medication and proper diet diabetes can be controlled. Let the doctors worry about his care, and you just help with support. Maybe look up some diabetes diets and offer to help with that. You can also attend a class for diabetics to show your support.
Good Luck!
K.

Hi L.,
My husband has diabetes too. It is very scary when they arent feeling well. It is a very scary disease period. I will tell you that 700 is a bit high for a blood sugar reading, but it can be taken care of. I know you are scared, I would be too. I do know enough about this disease to know that if your father takes care of himself, it can be lived with. Like I said, my husband lives with it everyday. My husband goes to an acupuncturist and it really does help him..
The most important thing with diabetes is how you eat and exercise. Get your father to walk, that will bring down his sugar count. All or any excercise, will help with that. Make sure he tests his sugar often until he gets a handle on it. A glucomitor is what is used to do that. He will need to prick his finger and put a drop of blood on there and in a few seconds the reading will appear. The library has a lot of good books about how to live and deal with diabetes. The very best books are the ones for kids. It explains it in simple terms. That is where I started to learn aobut it.
good luck to you and your father.
Hello! My name is N. and Diabetes runs in my family. Well first off he needs not to eat anything sweet like cakes, pies, candy, cookies, and regular sodas and tea .If he drinks soda it should be diet and then again he must not over indulge himself a glass amybe with dinner or lunch is good. Some stores also sell cookies that are sugar free. The main thing is for him to follow his doctors orders and I'm sure that he needs to check his sugar before his meals and after. He has to change his entire diet and make sure that he does not become over weight. If he gets a cough or cold he would need to purchase a cough and cold medicine called "TUSSIN" it is for diabetes individuals. He should try to exercise even if it is just walking in the early mornings or afternoons. I hope this helps. Take Care
I think a normal blood sugar is around 150 or lower. Your dad needs to see a doctor pronto. They can regulate his blood sugar with medicine and a change in diet.
Good luck,
M.
A Blood Sugar reading of over 126 is evidence of Diabetes. 700 is DANGEROUSLY high. Most likely, he had diabetes many years before he was diagnosed (if it is type 2). He absolutely needs to be seen by and ENDOCRINOLOGIST. Make sure the endo knows the Blood Sugar level. Also, make sure you check fasting levels (in the am prior to ANY FOOD OR DRINK). You need to have him seen very soon. Sugars this high are associated with increased risk for strokes, tia, heart attack, and loss of limb due to vascular disease. In short, he may not feel very sick, but this VERY SERIOUS.
Hope this helps-
Dear L.,
700 is high, and he should be going to see a doctor soon. If he has been to the doctor and has proper medications, then sit down with him, and tell him how much you need and want him in your life and ask him to tell you about his medications and show them to you and ask about his schedule for taking them..
Don't bug him about a proper diet, my husband has diabetes too and he just won't cooperate with the diet, but he cooperates with the meds. Good Luck, C. N.
Hi L.,
Blood sugar of 700 is pretty high. My mom is diabetic and she checks her blood every other day or so and it hovers around 90 and 110, which is where it needs to be. Having a sugar level that high is dangerous, but the person can be fully conscious during this spike in blood sugar, while it can also cause a person to go into a comatose state. It is imperative of your dad to manage his diabetes, as it is a very, very manageable condition with proper diet and medication. My friend's husband, who is also diabetic, began to act disorientated and was incoherent. She rushed him to the ER and came to find that his blood sugar level was over 1500 and he was slipping into the comatosed state. So keep an eye out for these symptoms. The highest blood sugar level ever recorded was 5600.
A good blood sugar range is around 120-150. How is he taking care of his diabetes? My fiance was around 700 when it was out of control.
Hi L., I am so sorry to hear about your Dad! Diabetes can be a very serious medical problem. Your Dad's blood sugar being 700 is not good. My mom is a diabetic as well, the highest her blood sugar has been is 550. Not trying to pry anymore make sure your Dad has an endocronologist. You seem to have a lot of things on your plate. I hope this helps. You can also try and look at web md they can have a lot of good and useful information. Also just put Diabetes in your search engine and it should bring up some pretty good websites.
Take Care,
S.
I am a Type 1 diabetic and I have never had my blood sugar get that high. I am suprised he knows it is 700 because most glucose meters don't read above 500. Does he take insulin? High blood sugar levels over time can cause problems, but once here and there won't be a huge problem, but he shouldn't allow it to get over 200 at highest. He should see an endocrynologist and help get thid under control. He should also really watch his diet, no sugars, especially sodas and candy. Also watch carbs, the body processes them like sugar and they will also raise blood sugar, so keep them at a minimum.

Hello L., it seems your dads blood surgar is high, but I think he needs to know what type diabetic he is. Take a look at webmd and see if you can't learn a little more about diabetes. It is important for you to know what he is ill with, as well as the causes and effects.
I dont know alot about it but a friend of mine has it and from what i know that is very bad , it shouldnt be past 100 something . If I were you I would research it as much as possible .I may be wrong but my friend says that is very high. Talk to your dad .
hi L.,
my name is P. and i have been diabetic for 3yrs now. a good normal blood count is 90-140. has your dad been to the doctors? if not he needs to go. maybe his meds need to be adjusted. or he might need to be put on insulin. also, he needs to watch his diet and exercise. remember, meat=protein does not turn into sugar. use whole wheat instead of white or just plain wheat, it keeps the sugar levels steady instead of spiking. and also if he is not eating, the liver will produce the sugar for his body, which is bad. he needs to eat 5 or so small meals a day. i typically eat 3 meals and 3 snacks. drink lots of water.
when numbers are too high. usually above 150 it starts to deteriorate the organs and you can have severe damage that is irriversable.
i hope this gives you some help. i wish you and your family luck. this disease can be controlled and you can live a very long and full life or if can look very scary.
Hi..I was diagnosed with diabetes a couple of years ago. My sugar was about 200 and that was high..so blood sugar over 700 is very very dangerous..normal sugar levels are between 75-110..some where in that range. I don't mean to make you more scared then you already are. I hope he is seeing a doctor for that..diabetes is a scary and dangerous disease if not taken care of. I hope all goes well.
Hi L.,
You have a lot on your plate. I hope your bf can help out more. About your dad, how old is he? And how long has his blood sugar been reading like this? He needs to see a Dr. immediately. I am a diabetic and I'm 28. I've been a diabetic for 8 yrs. and God has been good to me. I've even had a son, he's going to 4 soon. 700 is not a normal reading for anyone, especially if he's diabetic already.
The best place to look up info. is on the internet. Here are some great sites: www.webmd.com, www.diabetes.org, www.prevention.com.
I'm sure his Dr. may have told him, watching his diet and exercise are very very important. It's hard for me because I tend to want to eat more of the bad than the good. But, God is always able to help us in any situation. I'll be keeping you and your family in prayer.
Hello. My name is K.. I am a mom, wife, and nurse. I read your info. It sounds like your Dad needs to get to the doctor now. 700 is very high for a blood sugar. Some people can live with their sugars high for a while and their bodies compensate, but it is very important for him to be seen. He may need to be on insulin if he is not already or may need his medications adjusted. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate, so if you have any more qusetions let me know. I can help get you information on resources. There is a Diabetic Education Center at desert springs hospital and they can get him a lot of information. But before anything he needs to be seen by his doctor so they can checks his blood work and assess his medications. Hope this helps.
Dear L.,
A blood sugar count of 700 is diabetic coma range. I do not mean to scare you but you absolutely need to get under a doctors care IMMEDIATELY. All the advice about foods and excersize are excellent and you should definately do these things. But listen when I say the a blood sugar count that high could send you into a coma so please please get yourself to a doctor today. And monitor your diet IE sugars and sodas. Good luck and God Bless!
E.
I hate to tell you this, but a normal persons blood sugar is 80 to 120. Most people would be in a coma with blood sugar that high. If he doesn't do something about it soon, he's not going to last very long. With uncontrolled blood sugar, you damage many body parts. The most common thing that happens is blindness and leg amputations. He needs to see a doctor and get on some medication soon.
