B. - sounds like croup to me as well. I'm an expert by now since my 2 1/2 year old son has had it several times. Here is the story on croup: it is a viral infection of the larynx which typically happens more at nighttime (the barking cough) than in day.
Croup gets serious only when your child has difficulty breathing because the larynx has swollen. **Remedy is putting child in steamy room (bathroom with hot shower going) then taking them outside in cool air (which we will be getting tomorrow). Do this several times during day and right before bedtime. Put humidifier in room.
**If her fever came a day or two after croup, then there could be a secondary infection that needs to be treated. Last week my son had croup cough for 2 nights, Dr. told me to just try the natural treatments (steriods is the only cure but not the greatest thing to have them take). On the 3rd day he got a fever of 101 and I brought him in again. Dr. said when there is a LATE ONSET fever it most likely means he has another infection somewhere (sinus). She did put him on antibiotics just in case. We went ahead and did the steriods again to get rid of croup.
**Do not give him any antihistimine if she has nasal drip, because it doesn't do the croup good - it dries out her throat and you need to keep it moist. Lots of fluids and keep the monitor on at night to listen to her breathing (or sleep with her).
Broncitis is in the chest - if you hear that her cough is coming from the chest you must take her to the Dr.
Croup cough sounds much worse than it is... but I'm always a bit more cautious than not.
hope this helps.
