My little girl is going to be turning 3 in July. My mom and my daughter share the same birthday. My mom is flying out her to Vegas from California to spend their birthday together and I want to do something special for both of them. If anybody can give me some ideas of how to combine the two birthdays together I would greatly appreciate it. Even any indoor Birthday places would be helpful since the weather here in July is torture! Thanks for you feedback!!

What can I do next?

What about a tea party. I have heard about great party favors and goodies that are all centered around tea parties. It's fun and girly. I just used the idea to make party favors for a women's fundraiser event. You can do a google search and get lots of ideas. Good luck!

What about having a tea party? You could go all out with dress-up: hats, gloves, feather boas, bow ties and black hats for boys, etc. and make it fun and appropriate for both 3 year-olds and grandma.

I was born on my grandmother's birthday and remember sharing birthdays with her throughout the years very fondly. It was simply important for me to be with her because I understood it was very special that we shared the day. It was always fun to go somewhere people acknowledged that... even a restaurant that made a little bigger deal out of the b-day because it was both of us. I actually don't remember doing anything super special that wasn't done on my brother's b-day.
As a side note, I'm 35 now and still make an effort to spend as many birthdays as I can with my grandmother.
I am happy to hear you want to bring your daughter and mom together for the occasion. I know it's my unsolicited two cents, but making that a tradition could be very meaningful for them both.

Hi J.

I am a Stay @ home mom of twin boys age 7, and a little girl age 1. Something very cool that I have done with girlfriends as well as my mom are lunch dates at a tea house/room. There are a couple in Anahaim Hills, one in Riverside, several in "The OC" and a few towards Rancho Cucamonga. They are a lot of fun, very feminine, usually quaint and charming with delicious tea sandwiches, scones & desserts. They usually have beautiful little lady hats that your daughter could wear and boas too. It's just a great day out with just "The Girls." ~Just a thought~

My whole family loves Goofy's kitchen at Disneyland. You do not have to go into the park to do this. It is a really nice breakfast with all the characters. Lots of great opportunities to take pictures.
Another suggestion we have done with grandma and granddaughter birthday is Huntington Library, in Pasadena. They have a wonderful tea house. We didn't do this until my daughter was five years old.
sorry I read your question incorrectly. I was thinking you lived in Anaheim. Anyway the teahouse idea sounds great and also the photo. You could have a professional take pictures of them and then frame a picture of them together. One for grandma and one for your daughters room. That is a gift you will always cherish.

I have a July baby too and used to live in Vegas so I completely understand. An adorable one is the tea party. There are places in Vegas you can do this. It would be a great mix for the both I would think because all girls (young or old) love this stuff. I personally had a party at Olivia's and LOVED it (here is the web info)
www.oliviasdollhousetearoom.com . If you google it you can find many others in Vegas since I do not know what area you live in. I bet this would be more fun for the both than you can imagine. All my daughter's guests and Mom's LOVED the party we had. GOOD LUCK!

J.-
There are a few tea houses here in Vegas too. I don't know where in Vegas you live, I live in Henderson....so here are a few that I know of. Two Sisters Tea Cafe, Henderson off Horizon Ridge. More your daughters speed....Olivia's Tea House, off Tropicana. This place they get to dress up and have "tea". Treasured Times Tea House, in Boulder City. This one is super cute but more a real tea house. I have a few more if you want just send me a note and I can get you more.

What about doing a trip to a salon and everyone getting all dressed up, hair all done, nails painted and go get a family picture done. Do they still do "Glamour Shots"???? Its a great way to do something fun and get a special memory to keep.

My daugher and father share the same birthday. I've given him an engraved picture frame with her picture in it. It was Y2K and it said something like "For Grandpa's 60th Birthday on my 6th Birthday. Love..." So, if it doesn't fall this year, you could make something special when their birthdays have similar numbers.

My kids just enjoy the simpler things with the grandparents - feeding ducks at the pond, going to a nickel arcade. At this age, they don't really care about the fancy stuff.

How about having their portrait taken together? Since your mom lives out-of-town then this would be a great visual reminder of the time they shared together. Good luck. I know you'll come up with something special.

I echo the salon, tea party then picture! If you want something more to the funny side.... at the Circus Circus casino they do fun portraits, with a 'green screen' and then add in the background. I can't explain this right! =) We have one where all my family is sitting in a 'boat' on 'lake mead' and a 'shark' is about to eat the boat. It doesn't sound as funny as it looks! =)they have some where you are 'riding a cougar!'we all have fond memories of taking that picture cuz what they had us look at was the employee who at that time was 'big' pregnant. SO my DH and Dad both clown around that they were scared of the pregnant woman! =) Anyway, the only problem we had with that is that for some reason my DD who is almost 4 now thinks it really happened. lol (She was about 13 or 14 months at the time.) Anyway, we just explain it to her over and over... Hope that gives you a funnier alternative!

What about a tea party? You can do it yourself or there are some places you can go to like Olivia's Doll House Tea Room. I have heard about a place that will come to your home and set it all up, Katies Victorian Tea Parties. If that's not your thing what about a pottery/painting party at the Artful Potter.

Good luck and enjoy whatever you decide to do.

A fancy tea party for all the ladies would be fun. If the grownups are game, everyone could bring a favorite teddy bear too.

Hi J.,

Neither one of them needs a "party" except for maybe a special dinner with close family. Then, you can have cake, balloons and presents for both. You could rent a room at a local cheap hotel that has a pool if you don't have one yourself and then "party" at the pool.

Hi J.. I have read the responses and I agree that a "tea party" would be totally fun. But before going to tea, maybe you could go to the salon and get your mom and daughters nails done and get their hair done up in cute updo's. Then get a few hats, and boas and some costume jewelry and then go get pictures done of just the two of them on "their day" By this time both of them may be tired, so a nice nap would be in order.
