Daughter Wetting & Smell

I can't speak about potty training yet,my daughter is 7 months old. But I can help with the urine smell. The vinegar as previously suggested may work, but also Nature's Miracle, you can get it at Pet Smart by the gallon. There is another product a friend of mine raves about is Urine-off. I don't know if the pet stores have it. You might be able to get it online or from a vets office. I think they have dog and cat formulas. Don't know which is closer to kid pee ;)

Somebody gave me this idea and it really helped at night. Put down a plastic mattress cover, a sheet, another mattress cover, and another sheet. That way if she has an accident you can just quickly take off the top sheet and mattress cover, clean her up and both of you get back in bed.

I hope you don't mind, but my recommendations from pee smell come from having so many dogs and fostering dogs. Recently, I've heard wonderful things about fabuloso. A friend's tiled house smelled like pee badly when she was house training her puppy. She said Fabuloso is the only thing that worked. We're moving into an all tiled house and I plan on picking some up between 4 dogs and 2 kids! So you might be able to use this in the bathroom. It's an all purpose cleaner. If it somehow got in carpet, putting oxyclean in your steam cleaner really does the trick. I fostered a lot of puppies and people were surprised my house didn't smell like dogs. As far as a mattress, I'm just not sure how to go about cleaning that. If you can steam clean them, maybe try it with oxyclean too. I just don't know to clean a mattress. Also, use the oxyclean in your washer on the items she peed on. That will help. I've also heard of people spraying areas with vinegar.

Limit the drinking before bedtime. And I think it's marvelous your daughter is the age she is and is doing as well as she is! I have four children, two girls, two boys, the girls were definitely the longest and hardest to completely train. My son is now 3 and still from time to time will lose control at night. Their little bodies don't totally regulate to holding it full time at night until they are a bit older. I have a plastic sheet on his bed, and plastic pillow case. Vinegar is the best thing I have found for the wash, and washing it asap. Warm water and soap and vinegar. (regular white distilled). Greased Lightening sprayed on the bed some and wiped with a clean wet towel will help your bed. If she is going to be sleeping there at night sometimes, you might consider either putting her in a light pull up at night or plastic sheeting your bed.

Vinegar, just plain white vinegar. It wont stain, or destroy anything (unless you put it on very delicate surfaces or adhesives... not good on marble). Vingear has a really strong smell in itself, but it goes away quickly. Wipe the toliet, the floors, put a little in a spray bottle with water and spray it on the bed. You can even put a cup in the washer to get the smell out of clothes, sheets, etc... The best thing about this is that it's cheap and you aren't poisioning your family with chemical after chemical from the 100's of cleaning products that just don't work! I have rabbits (who are potty trained) and just like little kids, especially boys, their aim can be off. If you have ever smelled rabbit pee, then you know how bad it is. To keep the house from smelling like a bark I just wipe up the pee with a vinegar soaked paper towel. My vet suggested this to me, because she said rabbits are too sensitive to use chemicals around, and vingear is fine to use, even if they lick it up. Hope this helps!

I feel your pain, my 2 older ones always had accidents in my bed, gross. As far as the smell, have you tried using the pet stuff? The Nature's Miralce works best! My 3 1/2 year old can never seem to get the toilet, so I spray that stuff and it helps w/ the smell. The reason I know this b/c we got a puppy, and I just tried it and it does help! Good luck! M.
