Daughter Won't Stop Taking Diaper Off!

Try putting it on her backwards so she can't get to the straps. I read this on another board that I particiape on so I am recycling advice :)

I am a family child care provider and I also had one child in my care that would do the same thing. He was about the same age (2ish), what we (the Mom and I) did was put him in a onesie (sp) and then in overall that he could not undo. Then we watched (and listened) very carefuly so we could get to him soon after he woke up. It did not last long but we did have to change things up a bit. Hope this works for you.

eww my daughter does this too, she's 18 months, same thing she gets up and it's off before I can race up the steps, here's what I have been doing since I do not want to have to sanitize her entire room everyday. At night I switched totally to pull ups I put a onesie on her too, first thing in the morning when I take it off I ask her if she wants a pull up or to wear panties. Sometimes she does sometimes she doesn't. she will tell me she's wet and wait till she has a fresh diaper to make her bm in, so I try to watch for the signal and get her on the potty when ever I can.Occassionally she will potty on the potty or sit on it after she has already done the deed but we are potting training her older brother now so I bought her her own pink potty and they each get rewards for going, pee is a train (that was on time out for what they did wrong we keep them in a basket where they can see them so they work hard to get them back) and #2 is chocolate, that I only give them for this nothing else. my brother swears by smarties I haven't tried that.my kids almost never get candy at home so that's why I choose the chocolate for the reward.

You can also buy her panties and put them over the diapers at nite they are harder for them to get off. I would definetly get training underwear(sears). My daughter recently took off her diaper pooped on her carpet and put her sand bucket up side down on top of it so until I lifted it up when I cleaned her room before nap and there it was. I heard this is a girl thing my son never did this. I also take her #2 diapers and put the bm in the toliet and let her flush it so she gets the idea. Girls are slick though, I told her not to pee in her panties and once she took them off peed on the floor and put them back on. but if the diapers are coming off that means it's time to encourage potty training.lol I'm hoping for a 2 for 1 deal my son is almost there. hope this helps

I've known many (including myself) who have duct taped the diaper on. You'll have to cut it off but hey, at least you won't have the BM everywhere. Been there, done that!

I'm a stay at home Mom too! I LOVE IT! We have 4 children.

2 girls and 2 boys. All 4 of mine as they started to get older around your daughter's age seemed to give me some kind of signal about needing to make a bowel movement. Maybe when you hear Caitlin in the morning if you try to put her on the potty will see maybe go for you? How about if you try to put her on the potty when she wakes up from naps before and after eating meals snacks etc. before and as soon as you get where your going have her use the potty. Maybe this will help? I know my kids liked the idea of going from the diaper to the pull up. Even if they're not completely potty trained. It makes them feel like a "big kid" but you still have the control of the wetness in the pull ups. CONGRATULATIONS on expecting a SON in August! Caitlin is going to have soo much fun being a BIG SISTER!

ok....i didn't realize, being a first time mom, how common a phenomenon this is around your daughter's age! my daughter did this as well, and i researched it online, and found out that it's a very common phase kids go through. suggestions i heard are: put them in a backwards 1 piece sleeper so they can't get to their diaper, put them in overalls, and put them in a onesie underneath their other clothes. i tried all of these ideas and they worked for me. i found it was NOT a sign she was ready for potty training. she was just curious about her bodily functions. she stopped after about a month or two. it was just a phase.

Our 3 yr old son, Justin went thru this stage when he was about 2 1/2. It lasted about 2 weeks...VERRRRY aggravating! Some times I would change his crib sheets 3-5 times a day! I put shipping tape over the entire diaper top & around to the back, that worked for a for a while. I caught him in the act (I heard the diaper tape "zipping" off) & went into his room immediately & sternly told him to stop taking it off-- that worked for a bit too. My sister-in-law suggested putting the diaper on backwards- he got out of that stage before I tried that. Seems some things they just have to "grow out" of..Lord help us during those times!!!! Ugh, I remember when my son did this. It was exasperating! I forget where I heard the idea, but I bought some zip up jammies and cut the feet out of them (I couldn't find the ones without feet) and put them on him backwards for naps and bedtime. It worked wonders! I did this for about a week or two, then tried him without the backward jammies and he never took off his diaper again! Good luck and may you have poop-less walls, poop-less hands and a poop-less crib, etc. in the near future!

Well you seem to literally have your hands full. The only suggestion I can give is to more diligently pursue potty training...especially since there's a new bundle of joy coming soon! Changing 2 diapers at once can't be fun, lol!!! My daughter Heaven is 2 1/2 yrs old- turning 3 on November 29 and has been potty trained since about 1 1/2. She too used to pull her pampers off (although she didn't play in it! :-D) I felt that since she was doing so that I would test and she if she was telling me that she was ready to do the potty thing or if just playing around. I began taking her to the bathroom with me and she began to mimic mommy being a "big girl". I purchased a convertible potty at that time for her but she wanted to use the toilet. So I placed the piece on the toilet and used the potty as a foot stool. I used a timing system where about every 30 mins I would place her on the toilet for as long as she would sit still. I would entertain her on the toilet with books, toys, songs, etc to make her sit longer. So my advice to you is to test and see if Caitlin is ready for the potty - you just have to diligently pursue this if you really want it to stick. Also, if you want her to use the potty instead of the toilet right now, you can get one of those automated pottys that make the flushing noises or has little gadgets on them to keep her entertained long enough to actually use the bathroom. I would also suggest that you keep the potty in the bathroom and when you have to use the bathroom place her on "her toilet", allowing her to mimic mommy's actions. This way she can mentally connect potty = bathroom = mommy being "big girl" on toilet! Last but not least don't use pullups as an extension of the diaper. Let Caitlin try big girl panties during the day with the old fashioned plastic covers ups. Sometimes when a child feels what it is like to have wet underwear, they don't like the feeling and try to keep accidents from happening. Try to only use the pull ups at night and don't give a lot of liquids at night to minimize possible accidents...when you see that her pull ups are consistently dry in the morning, try taking them off too - that's what crib liners are for right! ;-D...Hope this helps and good luck...

You might want to try putting her diaper on backwards....it might only stop her for a little while though.

Instead of using a potty chair, get a potty seat that goes ontop of the regular toilet that way they can't normally just hope off. It's usually too high and they won't normally try to get down without help
as for the potty training put a dress on with no panties and let her go naked it will help her to realize what's going on. The main thing is being consistant

My aunt had one who did this. She is old enough to understand "No". She may not have grasped the potty training yet, but now is the time to start if you haven't. My first suggestion would have been trying pull-ups. Since this is currently working for you, I'd stick with it.

However, if she starts pulling them off as well, try duct tape on the diapers. It helped Macguyver (ha ha) out of many bad situations and it worked for my aunt with her poopy painting daughter. Her daughter couldn't get the duct tape off to remove her diaper so she couldn't paint the room.

Also, when she does it, it may take a little longer to clean up but make her help clean it up. This helped my aunt too. My little cousin did not like have to clean up the mess she made.

My niece did that and my sister used duct tape. She did not play in it but i know of several friends and family members whos children have done that. If that does not work you may want to put a couple pair of shorts on that way it will be hard for them to get the diaper off. It worked for my niece and after a while she knew she could not get the diaper of and didnto do it again

I don't really have any advice for you, other than try to remember that it's only temporary. I have close, personal experience with this, only not from my children. My mom likes to share the story of her first Mother's Day, when she had me all dressed up in my frilly white dress and ruffled pantyhose. She left me alone in the living room and when she came back a few minutes later I had painted the wall, my dress, pantyhose, and even face with a certain biological medium. Needless to say, we were late for church, and she had good material to tell all of my boyfriends when I grew up!

My oldest daughter (now 8.5) did this when she was little. The easiest thing I thought of was to put a onesie over her diaper, whether it was part of the outfit or a t-shirt like onesie. It worked wonders so I hope that may help you out. It seems like she may want to train, but then again, she may be bored. also. I wish you the best!

Maybe she is trying to tell you something like "mom, I want to use the potty!"

I think that putting a onesie on over the Pullup will definitely stop it ir slow it down. Couldn't hurt to try. Good luck!
