Day Bed/Twin Bedding Differences

I am about to do some switching in one of our bedrooms. I was looking for a Bed-in-a-Bag item in a catalog and noticed a different cost for day bed vs. twin collection. Do you definitely have to use a special size for a day bed or will twin sheets, comforter, bed skirt, etc. fit just as well? Suggestions greatly appreciated!!

What can I do next?

Hi LJ,

From experience, the comforter and sheets both work fine for a twin and daybed, but the skirt does not open in the same spot. So, that's really the only problem. Hope this helps!

I have a day bed in K's room. The mattress is the one off her twin bed. The day bed doesn't have a box spring so it is a different length from the ground than a twin bed. I would look in the catalog for a bed in a bag that is especially for a day bed. I think I have seen some but it has been a while since I looked. Most comforters hang over the end of the bed and both sides so I think you may just have to try out some from home then you'll have the measurements you need when ordering the bedding.

You can use regular sheet and comforter sets on a day bed. It just may not look like a day bed but more like a regular twin. You also may not have enough length to cover a trundle if you have one underneath. Our day bed currently has twin sheets and blanket with a full quilt so that it hangs longer on the sides and covers the trundle. I will buy a day bed set that will make it look more like a sofa when I have the money. Our day bed is in a room we use like a study and for guests so I want a fitted day bed cover with bolster pillows and shams so it more resembles a sofa. The matresses are just regular sized twin, though. Hope this helps.

I use regular twin size sheets on my day bed. The difference in a day bed set is that if it comes with shams they are usually for the larger size pillows so they will fit across the back of the day bed and the bed skirt has one long end and two short ends rather than one short end and two long. I have used regular comforters on my day bed, but not a regular twin bedskirt. Right now, however, I am using a regular bedspread on it and it is just fine. I do however, have it against two walls as one of the other posters mentioned.

A twin bedskirt is open (no fabric) at the head of the bed. A daybed's missing side is the one towards the wall or where your back would be when sitting on it.

twin sheets fit a day bed...the only difference in a day bed and a twin bed is daybeds you can get the trundle to go underneath if you choose which also uses twin sheets...my daughter has a daybed... or you can get daybeds with the drawers underneath instead of the trundle...that is what she has....HTH!!

the sheet sets are fine for either. As for the bedskirt... there is no skirting where the head of the twin bed would be. If you have the bed against a 2 walls this won't show. The comforter you have to watch the pattern and it tends to be short on the sides.

Day beds can be full or twin. also they come with extra pillow shams to display across the long side of the bed, as opposed to a twin set that has one or to just to grace the head of the bed. I would find a phone number and call the company to verify.
