I used to wear my swim suit home all the time (half the summer) ... never got a UTI from it.
I can't imagine a short drive back to the house would cause a UTI. Probably a coincidence.
Hi,
do your kids wear their swimsuits under clothes when you are go swimming to an area, where are no changing rooms? And after swimming how do they put their swimsuit off and underwear on, when there are many people.
Yesterday I was with my 2 DD's (10&8) swimming at a lake, and there were no changing rooms.
My ODD forgot her underwear and had to go home in her wet swimsuit. today she becamed an UTI.

Swimming in 60degree weather in a lake in Portland Oregon in October? Unless you were in Miami or California, there's no way.
Towels over the windows & change in the car if you can't dry out before you leave.
You don't get a UTI from a wet bathing suit.
We swim at our beaches every summer. The kids wear their suits to the beach, and wrap a towel around themselves for the ride home.
I highly doubt one car ride with a wet swimsuit caused her UTI. If it did, you have a lake with higher than normal bacteria levels. I would bet she already had the infection before you went.
I never bring a change of clothes to a swimming area. I leave the house in my suit and return home (sitting on a towel) in my suit, where I then take a shower. Never, ever gotten a UTI from this.
This "question" reeks of BS. The weather in your area yesterday was a HIGH of 62'F. Not swimming weather where "many people" would be out.
I remember standing in front of/outside of open car doors holding a towel spread out to cover so the kids had room to stand and change. We were in a tall SUV with dark windows, so no one could see anything from the other side of the vehicle.
A wet swimsuit isn't going to give her a UTI. If she wore it wet (and it was really warm) for a long period of time (more than 20 minutes home, more like all the rest of the afternoon)... then she might end up with a yeast infection. But not a UTI.
"She becamed a UTI"? What?
Yeah, you don't get a UTI from a ride home in a wet suit.
Trip trap.
You were swimming in a lake, yesterday, with your two daughters, on a school day? In late October? You knew there wouldn't be changing rooms and didn't think to have them change in the car? Where did you change at? What does the changing facilities have to do with your daughter forgetting her underwear.
How does one become a UTI?
I am going with Veruca's assessment.
how many hours did you drive home from the lake with your kids in wet swimsuits for one to 'become' a UTI?
i don't think this is for real, although the question itself is not without merit.
so......... yes, my kids wore their swimsuits under their clothes, and after swimming they would either dry off there by running around in the sun and playing, or change in the bathroom, or change in the car, or drive home (20 minutes) sitting on a pile of towels.
this ain't rocket science.

No, we don't wear swimsuits under our clothes.
If we are going directly to the lake, we wear our swimsuits w/a coverup
over it for me. Kids can ride in their swimsuits if they want.
I change out of wet swimsuits before ever getting back in the car. Where
do I do this if no bathrooms?
-in the car or I hold up a towel in a circle so the kids can change their
clothes inside the towel circle.
If the kids are going to a party that has a pool but are unsure if they
want to swim, I bring the swimsuits & change there.
I always keep extra clothes & underwear in the back of my SUV.
We wear swimsuits under clothes, let them dry on us and wear them home. We change just about anywhere. In a bathroom, the car, even surfer style at the beach with a towel.
What 10 year old girl hasn't figured this out yet? Hold a towel up for her if need be. You do not get a UTI from wearing a wet swim suit home.
A UTI starts deep in the body. She probably already had it and felt some symptoms.
The kids just wrap up in a towel and get in the car. When I know we're going somewhere where they'll have to keep their swimsuits on we wear cover ups but not clothes to begin with. Simply huge tee shirts or loose dresses are good choices if they don't have cover ups.
I always put stuff on the seats too. I put them in the car ahead of time so they can be put on the seat while we're in the water. This also keeps the seats cooler in the sun.
WHAT... You don't get a UTI from riding home with a wet bathing suit on.
REALLY... Where were you swimming in a lake in Oregon and the water not freezing?
We always changed when we got to the destination and changed before we came home. If there is a bathroom around, change there and if you are so modest that you can't do that, go into the bathroom stall. Change in the car. I don't see a big deal about changing clothes in the car or bathroom. It is not like you are advertising yourself and no one is lurking around to see who is changing clothes. I've changed in the car many times with no towels over the windows for my "protection".
Something sounds wrong with this post. Who on earth is that self conscious of their body. I hope you are not making your children super self conscious to the point that they think their bodies are something to be shameful about or dirty.
I guess you have never been to a locker room? It is nothing for women to get by the locker and dress. Who cares who sees what.. it is all women and in reality, women are not in there checking out the next person's body.
We would just change in or next to the car, using the open door as a privacy shield.
Well.. she could do like I did as a kid...one of three things. .either keep it on, yes it's wet and soaks through the clothes, but when I was a kid, I didn't care. I was happy to be swimming.. OR two... wrap a towel around and change that way. in fact, many people do that.. or bring a couple of towels and you and another hold it up and she can change behind it... or Three, keep the suit on with a towel wrapped around and change in the car or when you get home, if she is going straight home that is..
I too am bewildered by swimming in Oregon in late October with no changing rooms. Were you visiting in another state?
No, you don't get a UTI from wearing a wet swimsuit. There are many other causes but that's not one of them.
You say your daughter forgot her underwear - not sure what that means since there were no changing rooms anyway. But even so, you could easily have hung towels on the car windows and put one over her lap so she could slide of her swimsuit and put on her shorts or pants without underwear for the rid home. You could have fashioned a sarong-style skirt out of a towel. You could have stopped at a store or gas station with a rest room.
If this is a real question, perhaps you could elaborate.
You also should get accurate medical information from the children's pediatrician so you are not teaching them the wrong things about personal care, UTIs and so on. As your daughters approach puberty, you really need to have much more accurate information about female anatomy and hygiene so you don't teach them things that are patently false.
Change in the car. No underwear - just put your pants on. She'd manage for the car ride. Better than a UTI
I would either have them change in the car, or the bathroom, if there were no other options.
My kids changed in the car. I covered the windows with towels. If I remembered, I would bring a bed sheet to throw over the car to cover all windows at once.
I live in portland. I know of no lake warm enough to swim in this time of year.
As to your question. My grandchildren wear their swimsuit under their clothes. Some of the time they put their clothes back on over their damp suits. Other times we go back home while they wear damp suits without clothes.
We have gone to the beach and we hold up a towel while they change into dry clothes. If they have no underwear which does happen sometimes. They put on their clothes withour underwear.
A woman can get a yeast infection from wearing a swimsuit or nylon panties in heat because the warm damp environment in which yeast grows. I've not heard of getting a UTI. Also consider that in Oregon this time of year for the public area to be warm enough for yeast to grow.
It's possible that she picked up something from the water.
BTW there was no school W, Thurs and Friday in PPS schools.
When we go swimming at the beach and no changing area is open, we take some time to dry out before coming home.
If we're still damp we sit on folded towels so car seats don't get wet.
It's possible to use a pop up tent to change or pop a large mumu type loose dress over your head and change underneath that.
It's ok to go commando and wear pants with no underwear if she has to every once in awhile.
It's possible to get a UTI from swimming and staying wet.
My friend started getting them fairly frequently after they built a pool and she was using it daily.
Her doctor suggested not lingering in wet suits (swim then shower (get pool chemicals off skin) then dry off well and get into dry clothes) and drinking lot's of cranberry juice.
Urinary Tract Infection means bacteria has worked it's way up the tract.
Bacteria and yeast can grow in moist environments.
For what it's worth - I wear a cover up that is a skirt (like a tank dress) then pull the bottoms off near or in my car. Super easy.
Usually when we swim at the beach there are change rooms, but if there aren't we either dry out in the sun before we get in the car or just sit in a towel. I have also held up a towel so my kids could change behind it if they were really wet or we had a really long drive. I'm just jealous that you can still swim at the lake. We already have snow.
