Yummm my work celebrated my bday today so we had cinanman buns in cupcake form...yummmmm (I didn't know you could do that) and then at lunch the cafeteria is celebrating something and there will be apple pie and ice cream for everyone so I'm thinking I mine as well have desert for dinner too! Maybe a nice apple cider beer since todays my night without my daughter! yummmm. Anyone else having desert for a meal today, if not do you ever enjoy desert for dinner with the kids? I only have once with my daughter and she was beyond thrilled? I plan on doing squats each time I wash my hands to counter balance the yummy goodness=)
I love that saying Riley, Lfe's uncertain Eat desert 1st! I'm going to def. use that one=) And I'll be thinking of your relative who I never knew but he sounds awesome!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

yes only one time did i let her skip dinner and go right for desert, normally we have dinner than she gets a healthy desert like yogurt, cheese and crackers or veggies and dip, but Hey if we can do it once in a while it won't hurt them. I think I might make this a new reward for staying in her bed for 5 nights without waking M. up=)

I guess I'm not a cool enough mom to let my kids completely skip a meal to have dessert, but I've been known to do it myself. About a year ago I was having a completely foul day at work & one of my gf's/co-workers took M. to Cold Stone Creamery for lunch. Oh, heaven!

Sometimes I give my children whipped cream with their breakfast and I don't feel guilty about it. :)

I think it's a great idea... once in a great while. At my house we have the "donut rule". If it's not any worse than a donut then it's ok to have for breakfast (hubby and I made up this rule before we had kids so we could justify having cheesecake in bed one romantic morning). Of course, we don't have crappy/sugary treats for breakfast very often, but we enjoy the donut rule every now and again.

If there is something special going on and the kids don't finish a meal or are not hungry at meal time I will still let them have desert... but normal everyday things - they have to finish their dinner to get desert and yes desert (icecream, popsicle, cookie, cake, ect.) is offered after dinner everyday IF they finish their dinner. And sometimes they get donuts for breakfast... but that doesn't mean that my kids don't also get the fruits, veggies & meats. Sometimes it's J. trying to balance the good and bad things, cause if you always tell them no to the sweets/deserts, then they will start telling you no about the fruits, veggies and meats.

This is cute! Happy birthday!

I agree with Michelle...the worst "meal" I've ever given my kids is donuts for breakfast but usually I'm guilty of trying to shove a banana or oatmeal in them before my husband comes home with the box! ;)

I will do it for myself sometimes though, I know it's such a double standard but I consider it a perk for being a grow up!

Brownies for Breakfast is standard grief food in my house. Someone dies (far too frequent an occurance), gets dumped, etc... it's time for brownies for breakfast. I completely and totally stole that from the movie Practical Magic. And you know what? It really, really works.

My favorite uncle had a saying (and was a very well known man, and the saying has caught on in certain areas) "Life's uncertain. Eat dessert first." And he did. All the time. Every so often, I'll poke my head in the room and ask my son "Hey kiddo! Is life uncertain?" and he'll blink for a moment and shout "Yes!" and we'll eat dessert before dinner, or at whatever random time that happens to be.

The day after your birthday? There's only 1 breakfast allowed. Happy Cake.

We don't eat a lot of sweets/desserts/etc. But when we do, we usually break "the rules" about them.

Growing up the morning after our bday we always had cake for breakfast! It would be all cold from the fridge and super yummy. That and a glass of milk. =)
Love that statement Riley...and I will totally use it!

Bahaha! as a matter of fact - YES!! My son's birthday was yesterday, but I had a meeting and we are doing all the celebrating today - doughnut "cake" for breakfast, cupcakes at school and grandparents coming over tonight for cake and some malbec (wine).
Woot! both my boys, my hubby and I have Friday off so we are super psyched:)

Have an awesome birthday! here's to a sugar induced comma!
