I bought the cookbook "Whole Life Nutrition" and followed the elimination diet last January. I did lose 10 lbs that month, stopped craving sugar, started sleeping great, and in all felt the best I ever have. The problem is that it is very easy to slip back into bad habits--eat sugar 1 or 2 times and you are hooked again!- and I feel personally that this is a very difficult diet to start. For example, you are supposed to start off with 2 days of fruit/veggie smoothies to detox. Well, it is freaking freezing out, so an ice cold smoothie is the last thing I want to consume! lol. The elimination diet is pretty bare bones as well. After eating that way for a week, I actually thought it was easy to do, but you are supposed to keep away from grains, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, corn, meat, most beans, dairy....I was eating a lot of veggies, fruits, sunflower seeds, sweet potatoes, brown rice.
Anyhow...I am trying out "Paleo" now. It seems more doable. The focus is to eat protein with every meal (lots of lean meats and fish), lots of veggies, go easy on the fruits in order to lose weight, round out your meals with good fats like avacado, nuts, extra virgin olive oil, butter. I figure I can give up sugar, flour and junk food if I can at least have my coffee, meat and butter. I got information from the Robb Wolf website, look under FAQ's for a brief overview. FYI I am on day 2 of doing this and I am not hungry and I feel a lot less bloated and gross already :) Good luck on whatever you choose to do.
