Try cutting out alcohol, caffeine, meat, processed foods, and sugar (including white rice, pasta, etc) for a week or two. Eat lots of fresh fruit and veggies. And try to get in some good exercise to sweat the toxins out. Not as fancy as those kits or cleanses but easy and cheaper.

Try a week of eating only raw natural foods and drinking only water. Eat as much as you want, but only eat fresh fruit and veggies, and raw nuts. You can add extra protien by using all natural yogurt (blend with berries for taste) or all natural peanut butter (eat on apples since bread is out). Keep meat to only natural wild caught fish. After a week of this start adding your grains back in, but your cravings for sugar should be completely gone.

You could look into this:
http://www.nourishingmeals.com/2010/01/elimination-and-de...
I bought the cookbook "Whole Life Nutrition" and followed the elimination diet last January. I did lose 10 lbs that month, stopped craving sugar, started sleeping great, and in all felt the best I ever have. The problem is that it is very easy to slip back into bad habits--eat sugar 1 or 2 times and you are hooked again!- and I feel personally that this is a very difficult diet to start. For example, you are supposed to start off with 2 days of fruit/veggie smoothies to detox. Well, it is freaking freezing out, so an ice cold smoothie is the last thing I want to consume! lol. The elimination diet is pretty bare bones as well. After eating that way for a week, I actually thought it was easy to do, but you are supposed to keep away from grains, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, corn, meat, most beans, dairy....I was eating a lot of veggies, fruits, sunflower seeds, sweet potatoes, brown rice.
Anyhow...I am trying out "Paleo" now. It seems more doable. The focus is to eat protein with every meal (lots of lean meats and fish), lots of veggies, go easy on the fruits in order to lose weight, round out your meals with good fats like avacado, nuts, extra virgin olive oil, butter. I figure I can give up sugar, flour and junk food if I can at least have my coffee, meat and butter. I got information from the Robb Wolf website, look under FAQ's for a brief overview. FYI I am on day 2 of doing this and I am not hungry and I feel a lot less bloated and gross already :) Good luck on whatever you choose to do.

The best way, imo, is to eat at least 8 servings of raw fruits and veggies with a protein supplement for a week. No sugar. On about the 3rd day you will get a bad headache from sugar withdrawal. But it is worth it.
Taking supplements that claim to be cleansing can be very dangerous and leach nutrients from your body.

I'm thinking of doing the following one, it's for toxins as well but I'm sure I will lose weight too. The issue is the price, I estimated at least $100 for the supplies if not $200. Although that came to $6ish a day I think.

DETOX SMOOTHIE RECIPE

The Detox Smoothie supports the Liver and Gastro-Intestinal system with elimination of toxins and enhances the absorption of nutrients. The smoothie is considered a meal replacement for breakfast and should accompany the Whole Foods Guidelines.

Ingredients:
1. Biocleanse Powder (2 scoops)
2. Intestinal Repair Powder (2 tsp)
3. Progreens Powder (1 scoop)
4. D-L-Ultradophilus Powder (1/2 tsp)
5. Ultra Fiber (1 scoop)
6. Flax Oil (1 Tbsp)

Instructions:
• Mix the above ingredients into 6-8 oz of purified water
• You may add 1/2 cup of frozen organic berries or fruit
• Optional: You may add 1/2 cup of rice milk, almond milk, coconutmilk

Guidelines:
• The smoothie ingredients should be refrigerated.
• The smoothie is best as a meal replacement for breakfast.
• It has nearly 15 grams of protein.
• Drink it in no less than 30 minutes. It is a meal.

We recommend that you consult your physician before taking the supplements to be sure the recommendations are appropriate for you.

Hi,

If you want to jump start your weight loss, you need to wean yourself off of sugar. But don't try to do it by will power alone. Your brain is hard wired to crave sugar. Instead, trick your brain with protein and fat. Start every meal with protein (preferably whey protein) and essential fatty acids (omega-3 and omega-6s). I got this idea from Pharmacist Ben Fuchs. Here is a link to his website:

http://www.brightsideben.com/

On his website, you can also find product supplements. Supplementing with chromium and vanadium helps you to wean off sugar. The name of that supplement is "Sweet Eze".

The best whey protein I have found is One World Whey because it is cold processed. Here is a link: Watch the video at the bottom of that page.

If you have questions, let me know. Good luck!

Just keep in mind any type of weight loss from a cleanse won't resolt in permanent weight loss. It's typically short & temporary. My suggestion would be to incorporate more fiber into your diet- whether it's caplets, powders, and/or from foods. I started taking sea buckthorn oil caplets and I feel like it's really been helping. I saw it on Dr. Oz & had to try it. It's not widely advertised for weightloss but has been shown in studies to have an effect.

Get the book "21lbs in 21 days." The stuff is a bit pricey, but it works.

I did the Isogenics cleanse once, and it did work to jump start... lost about 6 lbs in 11 days. HOWEVER... it was pricey and the cleanse drink was icky...
SO the next time I did pretty much what Jen C. suggests and added a probiotic as well as a vitamin B complex daily. I also walked each day for only 45 minutes... and SAME result. Much cheaper. Best of luck!

I have tried two this past year that I really liked! One is the SoCal Cleanse (www.socalcleanse.com). The other is the Beauty Detox (book by Kimberly Snyder, who also has a blog). I found both to be very doable. Both allow for eating, just stick with veggies all day until dinner. I dropped three pounds in the first 5 days!
