Hi Ladies,
I just wanted your opinion on a personal matter. I went to the eye doctor this weekend and my vision has improved. I actually haven't been in over 5 years to the eye doctor. We've moved cities. This year I selected the vision insurance at my work because I knew I needed to see an eye doctor and really needed a new pair of glasses. Well, my last eye doctor's appointment (over 5 years ago) my vision was improving too. After I took the eye exam the doctor wrote the prescription, well, I gave him my glasses and asked if he could tell how bad my eyes had gotten. That's when he did a double take reading the numbers, asked me if diabetes ran in the family, which my sister and one grandfather has it. I am overweight. He said my vision had improved over 200% in one eye and 100% in the other eye.
So what do you think, even my prior eye doctor's appointments over 5 years ago, my vision was improving, actually, the ones before that one, I remember them telling me my vision was improving and kept changing my prescription which then it took 2 weeks for my eyes to adjust to the new one. I have a doctor's appointment (with my family physician) but it's not until Friday to take a glucose test to see if I do have diabetes. But in all the researched I've done, I cannot find anything about vision improving with diabetes. Needless to say, I will be changing my eating habits either way, just praying I don't have it, but wanted some feedback from you all.
Thank you!

So What Happened?

NO DIABETES!!! My eyes are getting better with age, I think the only think on my body that is... LOL I'm slowly changing my diet and I will lose some weight so that I don't develop it. Actually my boss told me that her and her father's eye sight improved as they got older, so that's good to know.

I really hate to wear my glasses, I only use them for driving and more so at night. So as soon as I get home or get to work, they are off my face until I'm driving. I didn't have to start wearing glasses until my junior or senior year in high school, when I went to college I mainly wore contacts 24/7, then in my mid 20's, my eyes would hurt and get blood shot from the contacts, so I went back to wearing glasses. I just don't like wearing them, so it went too just when I drove. Not sure if that is why they are improving or what. I'm very blessed they are.

Now I can go pick out my new frames...

Thank you Ladies!!!

Diabetes is linked to glaucoma and other vision issues but I've only heard of its making vision worse, not better. However, DO get that diabetes test ASAP since it is in your family, and in close relatives too.

If you do have diabetes, be sure to contact the American Diabetes Association ASAP. They can really help you both online and through in-person groups to navigate this condition. It's nothing to ignore or mess with. Especially if it turns out you have Type 1 diabetes, be sure also to keep a close eye on your kids and watch for symptoms like thirst, excessive urination, mood swings and even aggressiveness -- all are potential signs of diabetes. (My lovely, gentle and sweet MIL and her wonderful sister both can become downright violent if they are in a serious sugar crash situation, so if a kid who is otherwise fine starts swinging at folks and being belligerent suddenly it actually can be caused by a dangerous blood sugar low!)

so your vision has improved by 3x in the last 5 years? Not sure what you are doing - but keep on doing it..

i have NEVER heard ANYONE state that diabetes made their vision better...that's news to me...it would be for my dad and grandmother as well...who both have cataracts and glaucoma...

GOOD LUCK!

Just a thought - diet, blood sugar affect the vision in someone with diabetes. Perhaps, your diet and eating habits have somewhat improved and your vision had been deteriorating due to the onset of diabetes, but a change of habits has led to imrpovement?? Very strange. I would be curious to know what you learn.

Diabetes can cause several different eye problems. I've never heard of it improving eyesight.

My father had diabetes for over 30 years and recently died of diabetes related issues.

You don't say if you are near-sighted or far-sighted. Near-sighted people often experience improvement in vision with age. Sometimes it also occurs because of job change and less intense reading. My father was an optometrist. He kept telling me he'd be glad when I hit 30 so my Rx would quit changing. At 30 it stopped. He also said my astigmatism would improve with age, which it has. So yes, there are normal changes that have nothing to do with ones blood sugar. BUT it's always a good thing to check your blood sugar if diabetes is a family factor, and being over-weight is a huge influencer in that.

If you loose the weight, you can reduce the diabetes issue. There is a great supplement that helps with any diabetes related issue as well as reduce your west line. Let me know if you are interested and I will send you information.

Best Wishes.
