Diaper and Wipes Shower - Need Ideas

A co-worker of mine is pregnant with her second and found out that it's another girl. She's super excited because her youngerst is over 2 and she will not have to buy a lot of the essentials like she had to with her first. She is reusing the stroller and car seat. She's not changing the bedding. She really isn't even planning on registering anywhere. I would like to throw her a shower but have the guests bring just diapers and wipes - she is thrilled with the idea.

Here's my problem - I have never thrown together any event like this at all. I've never even really been a co-host. I need help with everything. I have about 2 months before I need to throw the shower so I have a little time. My first need is really some sort of cute saying for invitations. What would you put on the invitiations that is cutesy for a Diapers and Wipes shower? Also what are some activiites you would do or plan? What about treats?

Do to the work hours of the business the shower would need to be a Sunday afternoon/evening to allow for the most co-workers to show up. I thought about doing it during a staff meeting but it doesn't seem as personal. Like I said I need help with just about every aspect.

What can I do next?

I don't really have much, but I just wanted to suggest letting everyone know not to buy newborn diapers and to space out the sizing so she gets a little of all sizes and not too much of a very small size. Unfortunately I have seen it all too often with these that everyone shows up with newborn or size 1 diapers and then they actually have too many.

It happened to me. I had 3 boxes of diapers of size 1 that I never got to use and ended up donating. I also never used newborn as my girls were too big.

For the invite, I would have a picture of a diapered baby from behind and have on there "Just Covering the Essentials".

I've heard people call baby showers for 2nd babies "Sprinkle" parties b/c you sprinkle the mom with gifts instead of shower her with them (since she needs less). I Googled it and there are ton's of invitation ideas available. Since you want to do a diaper party, make that the theme. Look for decorations that have baby diapers on them, use cloth diapers as decorations, etc. I know I've seen confetti and plates with baby diapers on them. Ask around and see if anyone knows how to make a diaper cake and use that as your centerpiece. There are tutorials online if no one knows how to do it. We always hold our baby showers during Friday lunch - do it potluck and everyone gets lunch but it's always really nice. Does anyone in your office know how to decorate cakes? Google baby shower games - there are loads. Ask the mom what she is comfortable with. Baby bingo can be fun and not embarrassing (like wrapping prego mom in TP). Put the word out that you need help and I'm sure you will get some volunteers.

Saturday afternoons/ early evening seem to work best for my group of friends.

If diapers/ wipes are the biggest thing the momma needs I would find a way to incorperate that. Not that every one will follow it.. but that's ok also. A few new items are nice also.

I would break it up to where last names A-J bring size 1, K-R bring size 2, S-Z bring size 3 diapers... or how ever it works out to where it evens out and you don't get more of one size than the other.

We just did something similar for my best friends DIL (gosh that makes me feel old). We did Cat in the Hat and I found a ton of fun stuff to do online.

We made Thing 1 and Thing 2 cupcakes, and used cotton candy as hair on top and I printed little labels that said Thing 1 and Thing 2. The lesson I learned, is don't put the cotton candy on till right before the party :)

The cake was Cat's hat, a couple of round cakes stacked and then I used Fruit by the Foot (red) to make Cat's stripes. The food was pretty fun, we did finger foods so outside of the normal veggie trays and stuff we put some Goldfish crackers that represented One fish, Two fish.

We also did the diapers and wipes as a drawing, everyone who brought some got a ticket and at the end of the shower we had a drawing to win a gift. The gift was a basket with some Dr. Suess movies, popcorn, candy ect,..

Can you tell I had fun with this one....I don't even like baby showers lol

I made a diaper cake as a shower gift for a friend who was having her second. It was pretty simple but i would be happy to help you out if this is something you are interested in since i live in your area. Only cost me about $30 and was a wonderful center piece and useful gift

I think it would be fun to have the guests "get creative" with their diapers. We have all seen diaper cakes, but it would be fun to see what other "sculptures" people can come up with to make with diapers!

I realize that people might not be as creative, but that is what popped into my mind as I was reading your post...

At my shower we did the candy bar in a diaper guessing game - "What did baby eat"...melt a different candy bar (reeses, twix, crunch, etc.) in each diaper and guests try to determine which candy bar is in which diaper. Probably the only time people might be willing to sample the contents of a diaper!! :-)

Another activity I just did at a friend's shower was writing notes on diapers. Guests wrote notes, drew pictures, etc on diapers so parents would have something to look forward to during diaper changes. Some people were encouraging, some funny, and some just creative/artistic! It would be fun anticipating what would be on the next diaper you pull out! :-)

Definitely encourage different sizes of diapers - you could have different drawings for different size diapers - everyone who brought size 1 in one drawing, everyone who brings size 2 in another drawing...

Or for every pack of diapers/wipes you bring you get a raffle ticket/entered into a drawing. That is always a fun incentive to bring diapers.

Have fun! :-)

A couple examples I found online...just print it right on the invite or slip into invite.

A sweet baby girl is on the way
Let's help (coworkers's name) prepare for this day
They are excited to celebrate the arrival with you
Please bring diapers and wipies too

Please bring a pack of diapers any size
for a chance to win a special prize
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With either really, whoever brings a pack of diapers/wipes can put their name on a piece of paper for a drawing for a prize. (Actually could have people write their names and addresses so she can know who to write thank-you's to)
Could also put an X on bottom of cake plate for a door prize.
For a fun activity, I've always liked decorating white onsies (with fabric pens) - - but this can be an expensive activity for something she probably won't use...but fun lol
For a diaper party, probably really don't need anymore games than that if you don't want to.
I would just make sure to have a cutesy cake and some good food!
Good luck!
