Diaper Champ, Diaper Genie - the List Goes On!

What diaper pail do you use and love? I hated the diaper genie when I used it. It didn't do anything to mask the odors and we ended up just using the regular garbage and taking it out multiple times per day. So, I am looking for something better with this baby. I am debating between the diaper champ and the diaper pail listed on onestepahead.com. Have you used either? I think with both, you can use regular garbage bags. But, I have been told the pail on onestepahead.com is noisy so you cannot use it when baby is sleeping or napping. I'd love to hear your comments/suggestions!

I got rid of my diaper champ. The smell gets out. I took to emptying multiple times a day and now I just carry poopy diapers right outside. Changing the bag is a total vomit moment and once I discovered insects where getting in and living in there, I was done done done with poop diapers staying in the house.

I don't like any of them. I don't like diapers just sitting there, pretty gross. We throw ours away in a trashcan in our garage after each diaper change.

With my first, we used those plastic bags u get at the market. Put it in, tie good knots, and double bag it if necessary and put it out. A real $$ saver compared to buying a special diaper pail and the bags that come with it.

Well, my own personal opinion....Those things are expensive!!! I just got a regular trash can with a lid (kitchen size) and put it in my garage or on my porch. I put a regular trash bag in it. I changed the baby, walked into my garage and put the diaper in the trash can. Never noticed a smell, wasn't noisy, we out of my house. Worked great for me!

We had the diaper genie for baby #1, didn't use anything special for baby #2. Didn't see it as necessary. We put a trash can with lid right outside door to garage. Every diaper goes into garage trash can. No stinky house. No wasted money on unnecessary baby products!

I just don't like the idea of dirty diapers sitting in the house for very long. I had a Diaper Genie but quickly stopped using it. I think it's a waste of money.

I bought the Diaper Champ for #1, but it REALLY got stinky after just a few diapers, and I could NEVER leave a BM diaper in there. With baby #2 we just used tiny garbage bags and took it out of the house every day. I agree with the first respodant's suggestion to get a trash can with a lid to keep in the garage. You can get a small plastic one at Target or Walmart for a few bucks and it really keeps the smell locked in there, and when you're done with the diaper stage, you can use it for other garbage.

When our Diaper Genie broke, we got the Champ on a friend's recommendation. I don't know what that friend was thinking. It was so GROSS! You just basically dump the diapers into a pit. It was the most disgusting thing ever to empty the Champ in the outside garbage because it did nothing to seal off the diapers. Blech! The stench was terrible after just a day or two. I actually threw out the new Champ entirely after about one week of using it. ***P.S. YES, I used a plastic bag inside. I followed directions precisely. Even put a deodorizer inside the thing to get rid of the smell, but the thing was just awful.

We use the second generation Genie and like it. We use it for a daughter who's still night-training. Much better than the first model (HATED that!) and I understand the even newer model is even better. It seals off the diapers inside, so you don't get the odor issue like the Champ. Still hate the bags and getting them to cut to empty the thing can be a hassle, but overall it does the job. For us, having a two story house makes it impractical to take every wet pull up outside immediately, esp. with bad weather.

I have the diaper champ and got it at my baby shower. We love it and the good thing about it is that you can use any bags you want and will fit inside it unless diaper genie I think you have to guy their bags. We don't usually throw poopy diapers in the diaper champ just wet nappies. We throw the poopy ones outside to the garbage can right away. We also change the bag in the diaper champ twice a week so the inside won't smell too bad.

We did the diaper genie with #1 and hated those bag things, such a pain. So we got a diaper champ last time and put an air freshener at the bottom and used regular garbage bags-cheaper and easier.

I have the Diaper Dekor. I gave up buying those expensive Diaper Dekor bags. I just reuse the plastic bags from the grocery store. I'm on baby #3 and have been using Diaper Dekor since baby #1 8.5 yrs ago! ;)

We've been using the Champ for 2.5 years now (2 kids) and I can tell you at first it's great but once they're eating table foods and the poop stinks, you'll have to empty it every day. But yes, you can use any kind of bag. I think I read in the BRU reviews on it recently that the design has changed and people aren't liking it as much now. You may get on the web site and read the reviews for both and then make your decision.

I just finished using my diaper pail but when my daughter was born we went with the diaper champ because I didn't want to have to buy the pail specific bags to go with it like the Genie but I learned real quick that the Champ does not hold out ANY ODOR AT ALL! I then went shopping for a new pail and found Arm & Hammer's version of the pail and I LOVED IT! It not only closed off the bag once you put the diaper in but it sprinkles a little bit of baking soda down the bag as you close the lid. That in itself saved my nose from smelling the diapers. It was WONDERFUL and I would suggest it to anyone that asks my opinion. I am not sure who all carries it but I got it at Target.

Good Luck To You!

I love our Diaper Champ! It's 4 years old now and still going strong. It's been in continuous use and you can use any plastic bag in it -no special ones required. I always wipe the inside out with a Clorox wipe and frequently I'll spray Lysol in it. We've never had an odor problem. A few times I've washed it out with bleach, but only a couple of times in 4 years and it's fine. OF course you DO have to empty it -or any other diaper pail -every day or two or it will stink.

*CA mom -you're supposed to put a plastic bag in it. You use the handles of the plastic bag and attache them to the inner handles of the Diaper Champ.
