Dr. Smith's was a great choice for my baby. Her diaper rashes was clearing in most cases by her next diaper change or the next day. I even used it when she didn't have a rash. It was just a precaution. On the pricey side, but definitely worth it!

I am allergic to my own body fluids so my mom had a HUGE issue with me as a baby. My skin becomes like Tar Tar if I am wet for too long...so she used Vasaline and a lot of it.

A&D ointment is the beat and has been around MANY years...good luck and God bless!!

Hi D.! I can't remember if ButtPate is zinc oxide, but it always did the trick. We applied it at every diaper change, after baths, all that good stuff. Anytime that wasn't working, we used Aquaphor, which doubles for eczema. Good luck!

Vasaline is cheap and easy.

Boudreax's Butt Paste is good too (used it in the daycare on someone's baby and it works, but I did not buy it so I do not know the cost).

You can also use a warm, damp wash rag instead of wipes to wipe his bottom. Sometimes this helps too.

I use Desitin for day to day, then if it gets bad I use Dr. Smith's ButtPaste or for really bad ones I use Aquaphor, which is really really thick like a liquid bandaid. Also it could be a yeast infection so if the diaper rash cream does not help, try alternating with some Lotrimin (foot cream), which my pediatrician says can be used to treat yeast. good luck.

My little one (now 8) always acted like the zink oxide hurt him too. Desitin always worked best for him!

Dr. Smith's Diaper Cream is the best. It is a small container in a square box; cost about 7-8 dollars but is SOOOOO worth it. You can just see the child relax when that is applied. Wonderful stuff.

I like A & D ointment, too. Our 3 month old son has dry skin and eczema and the BEST thing I've used so far is Renew lotion by Melaleuca. It is VERY healing and I can always tell a huge difference when I use it.

There is a phenomenal prescription diaper ointment that runs nearly $100 bucks a tube. I forget the name of it at the moment, but when I remember I will edit this post.

You can make your own by mixing cortisone, clotrimazole, and antibiotic ointment. Diaper rash that doesn't go away fairly quickly with ZnO is more likely to be either yeast, bacterial, or a combination - which is what the last two ingredients in the mix combat.

The Arbonne Diaper Rash Cream is so awesome. When my girl gets a rash, it clears it with one application. Love that stuff, got it at my baby shower and it's lasted almost two years.

My friends son had bad rashes, and what helped him the most was making sure he was completely dry before putting on the diaper. She just dries him with a cotton diaper after using wipes. Maybe you could try it, she swears by it.

I may be a bit old but have any of you tried A&D Ointment for the rash? It is similar to vaseline in consistency but it sure cleared up the rashes quickly for my son.

My daughter had to get a special cream because she was like one poster where the urine burned her bottom but it too cleared up. Then I used the A&D.

Hey there, my little one has just cleared up a diaper rash. We used Desitin and it hurt him too but I think it is the touching of it, not so much the medicine. I put it on very thick and do it quick. Another thing that really helped clear it up fast was the pool. We put him in the pool naked a couple of days in a row and that really dried it up. I hope your little one's bobo is better soon.

I use Renew Lotion...It works GREAT!! My daughter's rash was gone in less than 2 days...It's lotion, so it rubs in (doesn't get on clothes or stay there :o)) and you can use it just as lotion too. No chemicals or toxins in it either!

And if all those other great products don't work, I would highly recommend Weleda diaper ointment. We used it on both children, and most diaper rash would be gone the next day. Plus, it's natural and soothing. You can find it almost anywhere now.

We tried Destin with my son and it burned him even worse. Poor thing used to get those leather-appearing, butt peeling rashes due to medications and severe diarrhea.

One of the daycare workers suggested Balmex for my little guy and it cleared up that rash in about 3 days with constant use..every time we changed we would cover his little bum with that stuff.

He is now 8 yrs old but still has sensitive skin and eczema once in a while.

Give your wee one a good soak in the tub and use a wash cloth with no soap to clean with. Try to avoid baby wipes and if possible give his skin some nothing but air time :0) Use a onesie or pants to help control the "accidents" if any.

We use Bert's Bees ointment. It is all natural and works great. If teh rash is resistant to creams, you may want to treat it for yeast. It is easy, and several people have posted yeast treatments in the archives here. I use a mix of Lotrimin AF, vaseline, and hydrocortisone plus a splash of maalox - works like a charm!

My kids have NEVER been able to wear any type of Desitin or Balmex brand. Something about those kind really burns their skin even more when I apply it and they scream until I wipe it off....it's horrible!
The best stuff I've ever used on their sensitive skin was the Triple Paste Ointment. It's sold at almost every pharmacy and Walmart stores. I LOVE this product and it clears up any rash rather quickly.

I swear by California Baby Diaper Wash spray. You can get it at Target, Whole Foods, Central Market, or Sprouts. Great stuff!

even though I am past diaper rash stage - I keep Arbonne herbal diaper rash cream on hand at all times. I use it on scrapes, bug bites, chafing, itchy skin etc. It is awesome - I don't sell Arbonne or promote their items, but I do love the baby cream!!!
