Both of my kids would get diaper rash like that. Dr. Smiths' worked or Budrouxs Buttpaste. If those dont help I would ask the Doc. My daughter would get fungal rashes like a yeast infection we thought it was diaper rash but it was more

I have a couple of things that you might want to try. Zinc Oxide, Boudreaux's butt paste and Clotrimazole cream. The clotrimazole cream is used to treat athlete's feet. I used it on my little girl until she was two years old. She had bad rashes also. You can get it in the athlete's foot section at any store. It is really not expensive. I also used zinc oxide as well. I hope I have helped you out in some sort of way or another. Please feel free to write back.

If you are breastfeeding, put some of the milk on the affected area. If not, using a sitz bath will clear it up. You can get sitz bath at places like the Herb Bar, Whole Foods, etc. I took sitz baths after birth with my son Noah. It heals wounds remarkably fast.
Use herbs to heal and creams to prevent wounds and chaffing.

Hello J.. My 4 year has semi-sensitive skin. We just went through our first bout of rotavirus. My son had diarrhea and vomiting for over a week, both at the same time. We kept a diaper on him since it had to be "caught" before he could make it to the potty. He had diarrhea at least 6 times a day, and he had the worst rash, that eventually tore, bled, etc. He cried for days about his rash hurting. I tried all of the creams we had, soaking, etc. My mother-in-law bought me some "Aquaphor" cream. It was very expensive, I thought. Within no time, the tear had healed, no rash, no bleeding. I put it on thick at every diaper change. It protected his skin so well. Eventually he got better, and it all went away, but the Aquaphor was wonderful. Why hadn't I found it earlier. Anyway, I also had a rash on both hands for about six months earlier this year. Same thing, nothing helped it. My hands were dry, cracked, red splotchy rash, kinda looked like eczema. I tried neosporin, hydrocortozone, heavy creams, etc. I finally used the Aquaphor, and within a week, my hands have cleared up. I really hope this helps. If someone has already commented on this product, I hope you have already tried it and your son is doing well.

J., my son was extremely prone to diaper rash also. We did EVERYTHING to try to help. He would immediately have sores that would bleed and weep. We could only use one type of diapers and it was horrible!!! UNTIL...a friend of mine saw what was happened and here is her concoction (and the ONLY thing that really helped). Get you a small spray bottle and fill a little over halfway with water, add about 1 1/2 capfulls of witchhazel and then 10 drops of lavender oil. Get some 100% round cotton facial cleaners (you know, the flat ones-not sure what they are called specificially). Spray the mixture onto the pad and clean him with these exclusively. Do not use baby wipes. If he is with other people, do not send baby wipes, wet down some of the cotton pads and put them in a plastic bag to be used every time his diaper is changed. This absolutely changed our life!!! The diaper rashes were cut down tremedously. Also, let the little one roam without a diaper as much as possible so his skin is exposed to the air. I cannot express how grateful I was to this friend for this little "miracle" cure she suggested. It really worked well for us.

Desitin Creamy formula diaper cream, Boudreaux's Butt Paste, and Pampers Sensitive Skin (no alcohol) wipes are the best! Generously apply the diaper creams. Poor thing, best of luck to you!

I swear by Balmex. If that does not work my pediatrician swore by Crisco. Like the cooking Crisco. He used it on his daughters that I went to school with so I guess it works (all these years later, he's been in bus. for a long time). He could not reccomend it enough. My daughter had horrible diaper rash when she was a baby and I would slather on some Balmex at every diaper change (and I mean slather) and it would totally work. I have tried everything else too.

My son also had terrible diaper rashes with diarrhea, but I did find that his was related to a food intolerance. He can't have wheat, rye or barley. Once those things were removed from his diet his diarrhea and diaper rashes have gotten much better. I tried most of the remedies suggested by others, but the store brand desitin with the highest zinc oxide and the lotrimin cream mixed worked the best for me. Good luck!

my aunt is a physician's assistant and recommended that i try something that sounds really ridiculous, but it works. i tried it and it really does work. you mix 1/2 diaper rash meds. with 1/2 yeast infection cream and then apply to bottom, you can mix right there in the pamper and then apply. believe it or not diarrhea contains a high amount of yeast. it sounds weird, but trust me it works. you shouldn't apply every diaper change, every other one would do just fine. and you really shouldn't wipe off until ready to apply next round, unless they go poop then of course you would need to wipe thoroughly and apply new.

my sitter also had a problem with bad diaper rash with her daughter and i recommended the same thing to her, she thought i was nuts, but then she took her daughter to the doctor and he prescribed her yeast infection cream that's a little milder than what we would use. which is why it's best to mix with the diaper rash cream. she informed me yesterday that it's alot better. if they continuously get the diaper rash then you would need to keep it on hand at all times. you also need to stay away from apple juice as it also gives a child diarrhea. just until the rash is cleared or the diarrhea subsides. i wish you the best of luck.

Have you tried Burt's bees brand? my youngest had the worst diaper rash when he was on antibiotics, like you said, little open sores, bleeding and such. I would soak him in a luke warm bath first, let him dry a bit then lather the burts bees on THICK!It would be gone the next morning.
I also apply a little something, either A&D or BB's with each diaper change.

J., I don't know what your discussions have been with your pediatrician, but there are some things you may want to explore. First, get your child tested for food and environmental allergies. If he is developing a severe rash when he has pflegm or the runs, this is happening because the flora/micro organisms in his intestinal tract are getting disrupted. Kind of like when women take antibiotics we often get yeast infections. If he is allergic to anything, or sensitive to anything, get it out of the house and out of his diet. Then, get the book Children With Starving Brains: A Medical Treatment Guide for Autism Spectrum Disorder, Second Edition by Jaquelyn McCandless. Although this author wrote it with autism/aspergers children in mind, the food issues she addresses affect all of our children. Children with food allergy issues often have other issues to deal with. The allergies hyperstimulate the immune system which then overeacts etc etc etc. Feeding your children food that will nourish their mind and their body is crucial, especially if your little one has food allergies.

When we got the allergic foods out of my son's diet, the rashes were almost gone. When something is in the air that he is allergic to, like mountain cedar or molds, we put aloe vera gel (the pure stuff or the stuff directly from the leaf...not anything else!) and let it soothe the skin.

2 oz. Dr. Smith's (Diaper Ointment)
12 g. Lotrimin AF (Yeast)
1 oz. 1% Hydrocortizone Cream (Inflammation)
2 oz. Zinc Oxide Ointment 20% (Good Measure)

Lotrimin works. It is for athlete's foot, but it works on diaper rash. I would put that on first, then the diaper rash ointment, then baby powder. Worked like a charm.

The olny medicine that would work on my son who had the same problem was Desitin, the original. It was really thick and hard to wash off but worked perfect. Everything else made him scream. When he didn't have a rash I used the medicated baby power to prevent one. Good Luck.

This is going to sound strange, but it worked for my son who had gone through this same thing. Take some Mylanta (or another liquid antacid) and dab it on his rash with a cotton ball. Try to get him to lay still on his stomach until it dries. Sometimes I would also layer Desitin Diaper Rash cream over it. The original thick, white Desitin seemed to work the best out of all the diaper rash creams I used.

Get your pediatrician to order some Happy Hiney. It can be made at a compounding or hospital pharmacy. Tough to get but it is the best I have ever used. Used primarily with the elderly that are bedridden cause their skin is even more sensitive that most babies cause of the compromise of being bedridden. Awesome stuff.

I know how you feel, Keep on doing what you're doing. My son wouldn't let meeven touch him to put on the oinment i still did but i also used a powder CALDESENE protecting powder its in a pink 5oz bottle who can find it at Walgreens in the baby section. Put some on let it get some air.

I find desitin to work the best.I have went form butt paste to johnson and johnson the only one is desitin.Make sure that at the first sign you protect his bottom so that it will not be as bad.Or you can use vasiline for everyday useage to protect his bottom from getting so moist.Becareful not to over rub his bottom area while it is affected just put him in a warm bath to soothe the area pat dry and apply the cream.I hope all is well.Take care and GOD BLESS

Every time my son get this it is because he has a yeast infection down there. If I use nystatin cream just one time it is way better. Yogurt helps too. (eating it :) ) Also, when he is bleeding, the nystatin might burn the 1st time. So I usually put antibiotic ointment on that spot and the nystatin every where else. I think you can tell if it is a yeast infection if the edges of the rash are a little raised.

I have tried several different ointments and none of them seemed to work. The only thing I found that works is Boudreaux's Butt Paste. That all I'll use. Good luck

I also have a son that has bad rashes that blister and bleed. My doctor prescribed a cream called SMBC Cream. You can only get it at one local pharamacy in the Golden Triangle. Both King's Pharamacy in Port Arthur care it. One location is by Central Mall by the bowling alley and the other is across the street from St. Mary's. This cream has helped my son greatly. I hope this helps you.

Have you tried Maalox? My pediatrician told me to use a little Maalox on their bottom for diaper rash. If it is NOT a fungal rash it works great. If it is fungal try Lotrimin cream. Also, try to let him be without a diaper on for as long as you can. The air really helps it heal.

I tried everything on my son, and the ONLY ointment that worked for him was Dr. Sheffield's Diaper rash ointment. It was like miracle cream on his tush, it would literally clear up in a day! You can buy it on Ebay, but I was never able to find it at any store here. My mother-in-law would buy it for me at a dollar store in Arizona.

I use witch hazel when my kids use diapers, I know that it burns but it kills the rash immediatley and then i put on the ointment my children never had a diaper rash again because i clean them with witch hazel.also i use it on my self when i have a rash too i use full strength on me but i add a little water on the kids and i know it burn but the rash go away!

All three of my children were/are very sensitive, as well. I used everything and nothing worked until a Doctor told me to use PLAIN Zinc Oxide (20%). It comes in a plain white tube. You can find it in the first aid section. Don't use any of the ones you mentioned. They have too many fragrances added, which could irritate even more. The Doc said to slather on the Zinc Oxide in an obnoxious amount. He said to cover the rash completely until you can't see any skin. Worked wonders!! The rash(es) were gone almost immediately!

Another vote for the Boudreaux Butt Paste. I find it at Target, BRU (they have the 16 oz. tub size, which is awesome), and the small tube at Walmart. It clears up any rash within a day or so, depending on how severe it is. Good luck!

First, I would find out what is causing the upset stomach and have something to give him on hand. The diaper needs to be changed very frequently and I always liked the thick white Desitin ointment. Maybe another babysitter or daycare would be good. God bless you both.

My daughter used to get the same type of rashes and was allergic to all diaper rash ointments. The only thing that would work was corn starch or baby powder with cornstarch.

J., my sons first pediatrician had said that diaper rashes are not only caused by bacteria, but also because of yeast. She told me to put some monostat cream on the rash and then the Boudreaux's butt paste. The rash went away FAST.
That was the end of the horrible, red, raised, bleeding, weeping diaper rashes that I had seen other friends struggle with, with their children. I told them what my dr. told me and they used it, all with very good results. Ask your childs pediatrician if you should try it. Chances are, they'll say, it'll probably work.

ok, i am the diaper rash queen. i have 2 boys, both with sensitive tummies and booties. this is what works the best: desitin with baby powder over it if the rash has just started, or if you suspect that one is coming or he has a little bit of diarrhea. if it is a more severe rash, put lotrimin (an antifungal, since diaper rash is actually caused by a fungus-you can buy it at any drug store or HEB) on his clean, dry bottom. rub it in, then add desitin on top and sprinkle iwth powder. give him baking soda baths 2 or 3 times a day by filling the tub up about 3 inches with warm water and adding about 1 cup of baking soda. let him sit in it for 15 minutes. this makes it more alkaline, and fungus prefers things to be more acidic. you can also put an antiinflammatory like cortaid(again you can find it at any drug store or at HEB) on his bottom after drying him and rub in like with the lotrimin. cover with desitin and powder. i use the cortaid once or twice a day and the lotrimin the rest of the time.

also, dont wipe his bottom with wipes, you should get a shower head that comes down and spray him off and soap him up with a mild soap, dove and dawn work well. dry and start over.

i know some of this sounds nuts, but i teach microbiology, so i know all about fungi. please give it a try.

My daughter used to get terrible diaper rash, very red, sometimes it would bleed. I tried so many things ... the stuff that worked for us the best was Equate Diaper relief -- it is the Walmart brand diaper rash cream. It has 40% zinc oxide which will clear up a diaper rash almost overnight. It has the highest % of zinc oxide that I could find. It is easy to find -since its at Wal-Mart !! Once it clears up use it very time you change your baby's diaper, it will keep the diaper rash from coming back !!

I use desitin and I have also used boodrows buttpaste (I don't know how to spell that). They both have worked for me. I use alot when my kids got diaper rash. I mean I cake that stuff on and all you see and spell is the ointment, but it worked for me and within a day or two you would see a difference. Also, when you are changing his diaper use a warm washcloth that is soft, don't use wipies, they have alcohol in them and that just helps the burning and the rash get worse. Good Luck.

My son has the same problem...he has always been very sensitive.I use vaseline...it always works for all the other ointments would never do anything for him. After his bath I would leave him in the nude to air him out and then put the vaseline.

i have twin girls that are the same way and the only thing i found to work was buodreaux's butt paste it is the only one i recommend to all my friends because we have tried everything and nothing worked except that.My niece came down to visit and her son had an awful diaper rash it was bleeding and crack i gave her some of that and she still calls me and tells me thank you because she had tried everything.It really works!!!!!!!!!!

Hi J.! I'm Y. and my baby, Gael (7 mo), has about the same problem. He gets a pritty bad rash, I tried all the ones you mentioned and they didn't helped. I tried Vitacilina Bebe last week and it worked wonders. You can find it at walmart or heb in the shampoo section! hope it helps you!

Try using petroleum jelly every time you change him even if he does not have diarrhea at the time. Make sure he is clean and then put a small amount of that petroleum jelly that stuff does wonders. make sure that the person who takes care of him keeps up with that and when he goes then maybe there will be some protection and he will not get a rash.

Try Lotramin. My daughter had the same thing and once I used the lotramin it cleared up..Hope this helps.

Give Aquaphor a try.

My son gets those kind of rashes to because he is sooo hot natured. We always let him go without his diaper for a little while after every change, and then we put a layer of Triple Antibiotic Ointment on before be put on the Desitin. We used the Lotromin when he had the thrush and it passed through his digestive track, and it works also, but you have to be careful because if you get it too strong it can irritate his skin more. Also, we use unscented baby wipes, or if it really bad a wet rag, and non-perfumed/non-scented diapers. Good Luck.

Hi, I went through the same thing with my daughter once for about a week or so when she was sick, I bought all the same things Dr. Smiths, Aveeno, our pharmacist at Walgreens recommended A&D....nothing working not even the Aveeno packets...what we ended up using was the cheapest HEB diaper rash medicine, if you read the active ingredients in all the diaper rash medications you will see that this one has the most of the active ingredient....its been awhile, but if I remember correctly it was 40 % compared to 10 % and 13 % something like that....I was constantly changing her diaper at the first sign of wetness, I would wipe her of course with wipes with no scent or anything of that kind, apply the rash medicine and leave her diaper on a little loose...She was one and 5 months at the time....When she got over her rash we started potty training...she caught on quick only took 3 days to potty train completely even at night.....I still think that rash had something to do with it..poor baby...anyway hope this helps. try budreaux buttpaste....it really woks great. use it every time as a preventative too. my daughter gets really red and bleeds. i took her to the dr and she said to buy lotramine AF. it is in an aerosol can. that works immediately. good luck

Boudreaux's Butt Paste!!! This works the best! My son can have a serious rash and it will be 50% if not more, better the next day. It is creaming, not thick so it does not hurt them when you put it on. More importantly it does not hurt them when you change their diapers like other ointments that seem to stick. I love it and so does my son.

I know it is strange but let him run around without his diaper on...letting the air get to it is the best thing...good chance to start potty training. A few accidents will happen but it can be cleaned.

Hi. I worked for 14 dermatologist for 3 1/2 years and as I was not a nurse I still saw a lot. I wouldn't want to diagnose your childs condition, but it really sounds like he needs to see a dermatologist. When this happens he will probably just need something stronger (prescription) of something like a cream or even an oral medication to get rid of it. My son always got real bad bleeding rashed any time he had diarrhea, but fortunately the Dr Smith's was a life saver for me. Just call your local dermatolgist and see what they say. More than likely you will need to bring him in to let them see it when it is actually going on, but they may can give you some suggestions to try over the phone. Hope you can find some answers.

Hi J.!! I have found that nothing soothes a rashy bottom like plain corn starch!!! Sprinkled lightly on the bottom will clear it up and also take out the burn. I'm also a working Mother of 3 and I will swear by it!!

Cornstarch, it takes the rash away super fast but can be a bit messy

Try Caldesen Powder. You can find it at Walgreens. It is in a pink bottle. This works wonders!

Hi J.. I had this problem for a bit. Luckily, at the time it happened, I was working at a medical clinic so of course they told me exactly what I needed and IT WORKED! It's a bit more expensive and you have to go online and order it or have your doctor have the pharmacist order it for you. It's called Carrington Moisture Barrier Cream with Zinc. There is an NDC# if you are having a pharmacist order it 53303-040-41. It's used for skin conditions associated witn incontinence but it is not harmful to your little one's bottom and it works fast! It works so good that you probably will only need to purchase it once. By the time you'd need another tube of it, he'll be potty training. =)

one thing that works every time for me is a combo of anti-fungal creme (the equate brand works great) and Diaper Goop from Kroger or USA Drug. hope it works out, it's awful when they get such a bad diaper rash and sores.

My daughter has had trouble on several occasions with diaper rashes and the dotor called in Cholestyramine in Aquaphor. It does work, but it does burn. Something I have found is using Vaseline then a coat of Desitin every diaper change does work. I know rashes can be very frustrating and painful. I hope this helps your son. Have a great day!

Boudreauxs Butt Paste is the best out of all.

The only thing I can suggest is keep diaper rash cream on him whether or not he has a rash, that way it will prevent it. My son was the same way. Also, talk to your pediatrician. Jason's gave me this ointment that took his away in no time. Turns out it was a type of rash that was resistant to normal cream. It was more like a yeast infection, and even suggested using a yeast infection cream on him.

I have a son that is 22 months old and also gets really bad diaper rashes. We have been told they are yeast infections so we use Lotrimin, like for althete's foot (the cream) and then a thick layer of diaper ointment. We use Triple Paste (Walgreen's carries it or your pharmacy can order it for you). This usually clears it right up. I know how you feel though, you just hate to make them cry, but you know it is best to get the wet or poop off of them.

Ok you are going to laugh but I have three really skin sensitive kids and I would swear by this old home remedy. Tke flour and put it in a pan and cook it(well burn it)till it becomes brown put it in a plastic bag and use it like baby powder it works wonders!

I have an idea (one I've never tried but...who knows). I am a father of 4 (13,11,4,3 - G,B,B,G) and what if you were to try that "band-aid" ointment that dries on like a clear band-aid (just on the most affected areas). Just a thought

My oldest used to have this problem. He would just SCREAM when I had to change him or give him a bath. The idea is to keep it dry to heal so make sure it's completely dry before you put on any ointment. Trapping moisture will make it worse. Anyhoo, the dr. had the pharmacy whip up something, A&D & something else which worked. My son's 17 now so I don't think I would have to do that now. I watched my 2 yr. old nephew since his mom went back to work. She has used Boudreaux's Butt Paste & it works as well or better than anything the dr. ever gave me! When my youngest 2 were babies I also used the Desitin Creamy cuz the other was just too pasty & hard to get off. Running around naked is the best medicine if that's an option. It's wasn't for my son, he never had control so it was too much mess! Hope that helps!

Place baby in a luke warm bath with a cup of baking soda for 15-20min. Yes, the same kind you use in the fridge. But do not use the same one in your fridge. Buy a new one. Do not use any soap. Also you can place some baking soda and water in a spray bottle, and spray on babys bottom at every diaper change. Either place diaper on very loose fitting or no diaper at all. This procedure will take the soreness and irritaion out of the area. My daughter has sensitive skin and had frequent diaper rash problems before she was potty trained. I was given this information by her allergist (go figure). It worked wonders!!!!!!!!!!!! Her pediatrician invented his own diaper rash cream for his patients. It's a compound of aquaphor and chlorestramine. Don't quote me on the spelling of latter term. But all of the parents love it including myself. You can even use it. Whenever my daughter is chafe I use it. If you want to try it, call and find out the mixture and talk to your pediatrician about perscribing it. My Peditrician's name is Dr. Danny Woods. The number is ###-###-####. His Nurse should be able to tell you what the brand name is. I'll keep you in my prayers and I hope I have been a help to you.

I have a 3 year old who also has sensitive skin. Whenever his little bottom gets raw, I break out the athlete's foot cream. Believe it or not, IT WORKS! This was recommended by a pediatrician who is also a mom. Just recently, my little fella had the stomach virus going around and he had the diarrhea version. I used the athlete's foot cream on those sore spots and within 24 hours he was healed enough to not mind the changes as much, just about normal. The areas were still sensitive, so I continued using it for a couple more days on those spots, but they cleared up. Try it!

Boudreaxs butt paste works wonders. My children had sensitive skin as well and got diaper rash frequently. The dr. even prescribed an ointment for diaper rash and that did not work. Thanks to boudreauxs buttpaste it cleared up my sons diaper rash super fast. He was bleeding too because it was a severe rash.
