I totally understand where you're coming from. Get Triple Paste Cream. It's expensive but totally worth it.

This is what has worked for us:

1) Wipe area with wet paper towel or washcloth (wet with water) and fan dry with a folded (unopened) diaper.

2) Slather on Butt Paste (silly name, but it really works!) or Triple Paste. You should be able to buy it at CVS, Walgreens, or Target.

3) You can use the Butt Paste for a few changes, or alternate between the Butt Paste and A&D Ointment.

This should take care of it almost entirely in one day, but you will see some improvement after several diaper changes.

Was Alex exposed to antibiotics? If so, it may be a yeast infection. Either way, I would definitely ask the doc about it. It seems awfully early for a difficult diaper rash.

Try silver shield gel a natural product.

I use baby wipes for breastfed babies. You can find that Target offers it in their brand for cheaper...but the little extra money is worth it to me anyways. Lansinoh also makes some. We have NEVER had a problem, and my daughter is 13mo.

Both of my kids unfortunately had the same thing, and there was no infection or anything - I just kept trying different things. It seemed to bother me more then the baby though. But what finally did the trick for us was DRC (Diaper Rash Cream). They have it at Walgreens (you have to ask the Pharmacist for it). This was the only thing that helped my kids, when it was really super bad - so I used to put it on once a day for preventative measures after it was cleaned up! Also, for the wipes, if you can, just use water and a soft towel - maybe the wipes are bothering little Alex!

The best of luck to you. It will pass (and then may come back and forth for the next year) - that is what happened to mine anyway....

I would call your Doctor. And do not use baby wipes, jusst used a moist cotton cloth. Also, change diaper brands, it could be the diaper causing the rash. Good luck.

Dear J., Congratulations!! I would call my Doctor. He is too young to be messing around. Call the MD.

Have you tried eliminating the formula? If he has sufficient wet and poop diapers, there is really no need to "top off". Your breastmilk changes composition (carbs / protein) to give him exactly what he needs. I would imagine your milk has only been in for a few days anyway -he's still regulating your milk supply. I would give him a chance to get that established first.

Additionally, he may be allergic to disposable diapers. BeBy Baby on Roscoe and Lincoln carries cloth diapers if you just want to give a few a try to see if that makes a difference.

I use Butt Paste and it is the BEST! Then I put some petroleum jelly on top of that and my son's diaper rash disappears almost instantly then. Good luck and congrats!! :)

I have to agree with the folks who have given a more natural approach. You have gotten a lot of great advise from that prospective, but I'll share mine too.

First, you should not be topping off. You can produce enough to satisfy the baby. He will ramp up your supply if there isnt enough. I know this from first hand experience. Don't do the formula.

Second, try going the more natural approach. Vasiline and other diaper rash creams contain petrolium based chemicals that are not good for your baby, his skin or for him to absorb. Try a calendula based cream. Calendula actually heals rashes. If it is thrush I HIGHLY recomend Thrush Cream by Motherlove. My son got a horrible rash from thrush on his entire bottom. The motherlove cream did the trick in about 4 days. You can google images of baby thrush to see if it is infact thrush. You can purchase the cream at whole foods. Also a mild soap and soft cloth will help with plently of naked time.

Lastly, do consider switching to cloth diapers. The disposables contain nasty chemicals (some that were in tampons but were removed because they caused toxic shock!!!) that should not be next to your son's skin/genitals 24/7 for several years. The cloth diapers these days are supeer easy to use and much more cost effective than disposables. I recomend Bum Genius or Kushies. Good Luck!

check w/your dr for this one in case it's an infection and here's what to do in the future. get a squirt bottle and spray a little water to clean baby and then dry with a soft paper towel. i mix my water w/cetaphil cleanser and use that alone with a wipe for poops but the water helps with sticky stuff. also, use tons of vaseline as a barrier after cleaning-like you're greasing a chicken for the oven. we've never had a problem. congrats and take care.

Wonder if you could be dealing with thrush? Do you have pain/burning when nursing? Give your doctor or peditrician a call just to check if the rash does not seem to be improving in next day or so. Good luck!

It may be yeast from the birth canal. Have your doc take a look.

My soon is 4 now but when He was a baby I did try this
It is worth to try

- apply over the counter Monostat to thr rash
- apply zinc oxide oitment to the daiper area that will contact the Monostat cream
- Gently pour baby powder with corn starch all over the Monostat cover rash.Just close up the daiper
Continue the "Sandwich " for 3 more days with each daiper change.Once the rash is gone continue for 3 more days

You can do some EVOO or coconut oil to help moisturize his bottom. Also, chlorine in baby wipes also dry out the skin, consider getting some chlorine free diaper wipes from Whole Foods. California Baby Diaper Cream and Diaper Area Wash is great, which you can purchase at Target and Whole Foods. If you are breastfeeding and topping off with formula, he just may be allergic to the formula, try to exclusively breastfeed and see how that changes things. His tummy is the size of a marble at day one and then a size of a ping pong ball by day 10, so you can visually see how big their stomachs really are and get an idea how much their tummys can really hold at one feeding. :)

Aveeno's creamy diaper rash is extremely gentle, but does the trick! I've tried a ton of other kinds, but have found that the Aveeno one works the best, even on my youngest, who's skin is extremely sensitive.

Nothing can beat staying dry, but I absolutely swear by Triple Paste cream. Expensive but worth every penny when you are staring at a raw behind. It works miracles, I swear. One other note, I've heard not to use wipes when the skin is really raw because the ingredients in the wipe can make it worse. Just a quick dip in a warm sink full of water. good luck!

Have the baby checked for thrush. Thats what this sounds like - you need a special antifungal diaper cream to eliminate it. Good luck.
