Diapers/Pullups

I agree with Karen completely. I own a childcare center and have potty trained hundreds of kids. Most of the time if you are consistent with daycare it can be done in a weeks time. However like Karen said you can not go back and forth it is so confusing to them. I would start on the weekend at home and then go straight to cloth training underwear (they are thicker for accidents) and send in a lot of extra clothing to daycare. Good luck!!

I work in a daycare with toddlers ( 17 months- 27 months) and have had experiene with potty training. When parents ask about pull-ups, I tell them it's a waste of money and they work just like diapers. They absorb the same way and the child can not tell the difference when they are wet in a pull-up. The main thing if you want to potty train your son is consistency. You can't work on it one day then stop then go back to it. Also if your son is being trained in school then you have to do it at home as well to keep that consistency going. In the meantime since you are expecting very soon I would put potty training off for a bit until you are ready to work on the potty training process w/ him 100%. Good luck

A lot of parents use pull-ups for toddlers because they're easier to put on than diapers. We used them for a long time before potty training just for the convenience. Plus, they look more like underwear, so I think they were a good transition into big kid underwear....they just make the toddlers feel like they're getting to be big kids. You certainly don't have to, though. They're the same as a diaper unless you're acually using them to potty train....which, you're not going to do if you're having a baby in 2weeks. Now is not the right time to focus on that....now is time to focus on becoming a big brother, not potty training.
When you are ready for them, they're great. Pampers Easy Ups worked best for us.

my son was 3 and 10 mos when he finally decided to wear underwear and go to the toilet. He'll be 4 in a month and we still let him wear 'night-diapers'. I found that using pull-ups meant changing him more frequently (they are supposed to be 'training pants' so don't keep the moisture away from the skin) and definitely more expensive. So in my view don't worry about it. If he's in daycare he'll soon want to do what the others do and go to the potty himself. A friend of mine has a girl the same age as my son, and her daughter went to the potty from 2 1/2 onwards... ANother friend same age also boy started using the potty just after his 3rd birthday. I just didn't push it with my son and let him decide when he was ready.

I stopped using Pull-Ups because my son couldn't differentiate between them and "big-boy underwear." All he knew was that he wasn't wearing diapers anymore, but could still poop and pee in them. I'd say "big boys don't wear diapers,' and he'd say, "I don't wear diapers - I wear Pull-Ups! I'm a big boy!" He didn't get it yet. IMO, Pull-Ups are for the transition, and a precaution against accidents. Not instead of diapers.

So, my just-turned-3-year-old is in diapers and will be until he can stay dry. Then Iw ill transition to Pull-Ups and then to underwear once he keeps his Pull-Ups dry for a while.

I wouldn't even worry about potty-training him right now. You have plenty of time. The last thing you need to do is start potty-training just to stop and go through the set-backs after having another, especially if you are due in 2 weeks. Congratulations, by the way! After you have the baby and are comfortable and he is ready, then set-up a routine to start potty-training. Other wise, it will drive you crazy and you don't need that right now. Try not to feel pressure from anyone else especially someone at work. Most kids aren't finished being potty-trained by 3.5 and if you put him in pull-ups, he'll use them like diapers and they are a lot more expensive.

Since you are expecting another one so soon, I wouldn't worry about it for a few more months. Even if he were potty trained already he could backslide with the new baby... sort of an attention thing.
However, if you wait a few months and start working with him, you can make it a "big boy" thing... when he sees the baby is in diapers you can get him to understand that he is big and he can wear cool undies and the baby can't.

Boys usually train a little later than girls anyway.

You can make it a big deal of shopping with him and letting him pick out his own undies... spider man or whatever he likes... then he can see that it will make him as special as the baby is.

Pullups are a waste of money. They do not help with potty training at all. They are just diapers themselves and they cost more then diapers. The only way my son would potty train was to let him run around naked. Don't waste your money keep using diapers.
