this is getting ridiculous already, i never know when it could be something serious or not....so my 18 month old son developed diarhhea on 2 days ago (sunday) today he had a pretty bad rash so i left him without a diaper only some undies to run around the house, well he pooped again and the diarrhea had very thick mucus in it extremely slimy sorry for the tmi...i had little streaks of blood but i payed little attention to it because hes been having so many bm that i figured its iratation...after i cleaned him he developed a fever and started getting reall crampy there seems to be nothing i can do to make him comfy..hes on pedialyte but about 5 hours ago he started refusing all liquids or jello or anything of that nature...

i knw u ladies are not drs and i will take him tmrw to get seen, i just want some advice or to hear ur thoughts about what this could be?

thanks in advance

Please take him to doctor or ER right away with these symptoms, he could be extremely dehydrated already and needs to be on liquids or IV asap. Don't wait now that the fever has developed. He could have swallowed something that could be poisonous.

It could just be a simple stomach bug or it could be something a little more like Salmonella. My son had salmonella when he was 2 years old and I ended up waiting before I took him in to the doctor. By the time I took him and the stool cultures came back, he was already better. His symptoms were low-grade fever, cramping, diarrhea, and he did have some blood streaks in his BM's. The thing with stomach bugs is that you don't know what it is unless the stool is cultured. Make sure you keep him from getting dehydrated - that can happen very easily kids and since you said he's now not taking liquids, I would take him to the doctor as soon as possible. Good luck and I hope he feels better soon.

I would not wait until tomorrow, I would take him today to see the doctor. They should be able to accommodate you now. Make sure he has a lot liquids so he does not dehydrate and I gave my child Danactive probiotic yogurt drinks. It helps with immune system and keeping his defenses up. Plus it helps with the tummy discomfort. Try juice.

I agree that he needs to be seen in order to rule out anything serious. But I know there is a NASTY stomach bug going around here. Vomiting, diarreah, and then the fever. It has been lasting about 48 hours.

Take him to the ER since he is refusing liquids. That is a dangerous combination with the diarrhea.

It's going around big time! Gastroenteritis! His tummy hurts and is cramping so he is not going to eat. Try little sips of gatorade, soda or ice pops. Little sips....let it run it's course. Do not give him anything to stop it because you want the toxins/virus to come out not be stuck in him. If he starts to look dehydrated, take him to the hospital for an IV.
