Diarrhea Coming and Going...

My DD is 3 1/2 months old. She is breastfed and teething... She keeps getting diarrhea (sometimes an army green color, sometimes brownish, sometimes normal colored...) for a couple of diapers, then when I get ready to call her pedi. it will go back to the mustard paste poop she usually has for a couple diapers, then back to diarrhea. She will be having her 4 month checkup at the end of this month, and I am planning on asking her pedi about it then... but should I take her in sooner? She's not dehydrated, she doesn't have a fever, and she isn't acting sick... (other than when her mouth hurts, but if I give her teething tablets or baby orajel she goes back to normal). I think it might be my diet affecting her, but Im not sure what Im eating that would do it... (I had to stop drinking milk when she was born... but I still eat other dairy products ~ cutting those out but I know it takes a while to clear out of my system.) Im not sure if teething has anything to do with it either... help?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

yeah, it's still doing the same thing... but she is happy and it's not bloody, super dark, or anything weird. I will keep an eye on it (never though poop would be so interesting) but I think it is ok. Thanks mommas! :D

Yes, both teething and your diet can and will affect your daughter's stools. Keep a log of your foods and your daughter's diapers to see if you can find a coorelation. This will be good documentation to take to the pediatrician as well. In the meantime, stay hydrated and let her nurse as often as possible. Good luck & best wishes.

All color are ok if there is not black colored stool ( gi bleeding) or white colored stool (gallbladder disease).
Mucose and bloody is also abnormal
You can let your pediatrician know, to see what he thincks

teething makes there poop wierd. it also helps give there little bums diaper rash. even if you change it right away. i think the excess saliva makes there poo different and some what acidish? hope this helps. my babies both had weird situations with there diapers while teething.

while feeding your baby you need to remember what you eat she eats, try keeping a diary of your meals. She may have problems with some of them. My daughter had problems with peanut butter, and boy was that something to open a diaper with.

I am also in the camp that it sounds like normal poop. Their poop can range in color from greenish to brownish and a majority of the time that mustard yellow color. My first always had that seedy poop, my second hardly ever had the seeds, just runny yellowish poo. Occasionally a bit more or a weird color but he was never sick. Now that he is starting to eat some solids, his poo is much more frequent and much thicker. I don't think it is cause for concern unless you notice some other symptoms. Good luck!!

I agree with the previous responses---especially with breastfed babies their poops will tend to be a lot looser at times, especially teething too. As their systems mature too, there will be changes. If she is not uncomfortable and she is still eating well, it's probably just her system, but i would also just keep track of what you are eating to see if there is a correlation, like anything spicy or citrus and milk. Maybe just reduce these foods and see if anything changes. But also note that even if you change your diet it could take weeks to show any difference like you said! Could it be anything from the teething tablets? you could ask your doctor about trying more of those natural teething drops which I think have mainly chamomille in it, which may help settle her tummy too.

If she's not uncomfortable in any way, it sounds like just normal infant poop to me. They will change color and shape for a while and what your eating may do that too. I wouldn't worry. Bring it up at her check-up, but I don't see any need to take her in sooner.
