I would say a nanny is employed by a family and watches that couples children on a daily basis in their own home, sometimes the nannies will live in the home with the family. A nanny will feed your kids, clean up after them, etc, its very personalized b/c they spend so much time with your kids. The family would negotiate the nannies duties with her when she is hired.

A babysitter is someone you call here and there, whenever you and your husband want to go out, to keep your children.

A childcare provider is a licensed business that you drop your child off at while you go to work, they keep many people's children at once. Your child is fed, etc while they are there too.

Some folks interuse the words, i.e. call their kids daycare the babysitter, etc.

It's all pretty much the same things as far as duties go. A nanny refers more to someone who keeps one or two of the same children all the time for the mother while she works, usually at their house. A babysitter refers more to someone you call so you can go on a date or shopping one night a week. A childcare provider would be like a daycare or preschool, but could be a nanny or babysitter too. Like I said, they all take care of kids and their duties are about the same. It doesn't really matter what term you use- people will know what you are talking about.

I agree with the last response given. We have a Nanny who is part time. She comes Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. Like the other lady mentioned she cooks for our son, cleans up after him and plays games. She also does misc. things for me around the house/office. One thing extra that I think of Nanny is she is someone you take with you places to help keep track of the children while you shop, conduct business phone calls, etc. But, you still have the freedom to interact/parent your children as necessary. That's how we do it at least...

a babysitter is someone you hire for a couple of hours when oyu want to get out for an evening or an afternoon to yourself.. or some errands..

A childcare provider is usually in someone's home or an center where you take your child while you are working or for social interaction either full time or partime (3 - 5 days a week) regularly...

A nanny is someone who come into your home to care for your child and often times has other household chores as well dishes, laundry (associated with the care of the child).

I hope that clarifies it in it's simplest forms for you hunny...
