Our son's college apartment has a cable connection in the main living area but not in the bedroom. You aren't allowed to run it anywhere else. If I buy him one of the portable digital tvs would that work and allow him to pick up local channels in this other room by just turning it on and finding a channel? I'm sort of clueless in this new age tv without my cable connection that at home hooks to everything and channels galore just appear. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you moms!

So What Happened?

Between his classes, sports and part-time job he really doesn't have much time in the bedroom. He does use his laptop to watch movies but as one of those moms that is always trying to make everything more comfortable for them, I was hoping to get a tv in there also for a little more relaxing if possible. Thanks for the ideas and taking time to respond.

Doesnt work at my house... even with an external anttenna... He could get a splitter and just run his own piece of long coax back to his room.. that is what I've done in the past when faced with those conditions.

You have to buy an antenna... we got one at Wal-mart for $10.

Hi Olivia, my son too only has cable in the common rooms. But he's not much of a tv watcher. He and his roommate have a large flat screen in their room but use it only for gaming. I know he watches shows and movies and such on his computer. I know this doesn't answer your question, I'm sorry. I guess I don't know much about the digital cableless tvs either. I'll be watching your responses!

It was like this when I was in college and part of the reasoning is to get the students out of their rooms. TV was in the common areas to bring students together for socializing. We had DVD players in our room if you wanted to watch a movie or some had computers for playing online. I think a laptop would be a better investment since school work can be done on one as well as watching TV on one if needed.
