Dinosaur Birthday Party Ideas

My daughter will be turning 6 years old next month! She has been wanting a dinosaur party for forever haha I'm looking for ideas to add to what I already have.

This is just for dinosaurs in general, not Dinosaur Train or anything. My daughter LOVES dinosaurs & wants to be a paleontologist when she grows up (and yes she can say that word and tell you what it means! lol)

She wants dinosaur-themed music (suggestions welcome!).
Pin the tail on the dinosaur (haha)
I read online something about boiling eggs, cracking the shells, then soaking in food coloring (Easter egg dying but with cracking the shells) and it's supposed to look like dino eggs.
We found a dinosaur shaped cake at Publix
And of course we have a ton of dinosaur toys to decorate with lol

Now, to add to the fun, we are in the process of buying a house. We SHOULD be closing on Friday (yay!!!) but will probably not be moved into the house until Feb. 4 - 5. Her birthday is Feb. 22. We are going to be gone on a snow ski trip Feb. 26 - 29! Oh AND she will be changing schools to finish Kindergarten, probably will start the new school on Feb. 6. Do I invite her old class before she leaves, and then invite the new class too?? And when the heck am I gonna find time to unpack & get things settled and THEN have a party?? Ok, now I need some volunteers to come help! haha!

(Edited to add: We are moving about 15 minutes away from where we currently live. Have to change from City school system to County school system. So the old class won't be traveling far to attend the party!)

I just wanted to mention something that a friend did at her son's dinosaur party that was really cool and the kids (boys and girls) loved it!

She made little plaster chunks with prizes inside that they could use little chisels, brushes, etc. to reveal.

OR I have heard of getting a bunch of bones from the butcher, boiling, baking & cleaning really well & hiding them in a big sand pile or sand box....

My grand daughter turned 4 last August and had a dinosaur party. We made a cake to look like a volcano. It was really cool looking. The neatest thing we did was to make big dinosaur eggs for the goody bags. (and we arent even found of goody bags) We made paper mache' eggs about the size of large grapefruits by blowing up balloons to the right size and covering with strips of newspaper dipped in flour and water. We used whole wheat flour so it was gritty and the texture was really neat. Of course you leave a small spot uncovered so after they dry, you can pop the balloon and fill the egg with goodies of your choice. Then using masking tape we taped the hole shut and then spray painted them different colors and speckled them a bit. It was amazing how really "egg like" they looked! We got big boxes from an appliance store and taped them together and covered in table cloths and sheets to make a maze and hid eggs and big stuffed dinos inside for the kids to crawl thru on a hunt for eggs. They liked it and had a lot of fun. Once they found an egg and came out they could break the egg open and find the candy, toys, stickers, whatever was in the egg. Parents were impressed and it was really cheap and easy to do. We had a table set up with coloring books of dinos, and markers and it kept a lot of kids really interested. We made a big dinosaur with his big teeth showing, mouth wide open, to glue on the front of a box for a bean bag toss and the bean bags were all made with dino print fabric. They loved tossing the bags into the dino mouth,(over and over) and when done each kids got to take one home. I did make a cute Pebbles Flintstone dress for our grand daughter from leopard print fabric. It wasnt very hard and was adorable. If you want to see pictures of the cake, and eggs send me a private message and I can email some to you.

Like K's Mom we did paper mache' dinosaur eggs and the kids loved cracking them to see what was inside. I always go to this website once our theme is finalized to get more ideas.

I would definitely invite the friends from the old school since she knew
the longer, isn't moving far away & may stay friends even after the
school change.

Be open to inviting some new kids from the new school if she feels so
inclined.

Congrats on the new home & have fun.

(Oh darn, busy that day so I can't volunteer. Shoot. :)

Oh & you could do speckled jelly beans for their mini eggs that are
edible. Brown jelly beans for dino turds or is that too gross? Sorry.

I love ALL your ideas (cracked dyed eggs, pin the tail on the dino etc.)
Love it!! Have fun! :)

I guess it depends on you and how many kids you want to deal with on the old school and new school. I would stick with the old school for now. One other activity a friend did for a dinosaur birthday party. Since it was before the garden was put in, her husband made what looked like dinosaur bones and buried them in the garden and had the kids dig up the bones. I believe he made them out of cement. The kids had a blast. Maybe something on a smaller scale, digging for smaller bones in a sandbox. Have fun!

My daughter is doing a dinosaur themed party for my grandson's third birthday. She found a ton of stuff on Pinterest. Sugar cookies with dinosaur tracks, eetc....

I would invite kids from both classes and not worry about having the house company ready. Kids won't care and parents will understand. Maybe hope for the common areas and hit the bedrooms and other areas later.

When my son was little, we did a Dinousar theme also. I did a dinousar dig with the kids, we had filled a plastic tote with sand, and had buried plastic dinousaurs in the sand, then allowed each child to dig several of them out. All the kids had a blast with this, as they got to keep what they found.

Good luck, & have fun!
