i got a dump truck toy and put the dirt in the back and did a contruction theme... and the truck was added gift... bonus!
So my lil guy is going to turn 2 in a few weeks. I have always bought store bought cakes for both all of my kids, and want to do something different. My sister is having her sons 6th b day party today and she is doing a dirt cake. She is doing a Halloween themes cake. I don't want to do that since his b day is close to thanksgiving. Do you ladies have any ideas how to decorate the dirt cake boyish? Thanks for any ideas?

I made my dirt cake in a sand bucket and then threw gummy worms and other gummy creatures on it. Stuck a shovel in and voila! Simple - cute and not a lot of extra decorations needed!
A chocolate cake you make.
Crumble chocolate graham crackers on top for "dirt".
Have gummy worms sticking out of the cake top & sides.
Take red jelly bellies & paint black dots w/edible pen (or don't let the kids
eat those) for lady bugs.
Buy teeny shovel, pail, dirt bike or the likes to decorate top.
They have candy looking rocks/boulders you can buy at candy shops.
Add boys trucks/cars. Get plastic shovel to serve with. If you want 'sand' with your 'dirt', grind up nutter butter cookies. If you do a construction site, use pretzel sticks as pretend logs stacked on the cake or set in some of the toys.
