Happy New Year Mama's
I am planning a disney cruise for 4 kids, my mom, hubby and I. I'm thinking about taking a cab to the port because the disney transfers are 70 per person. Renting a car is also an opt. I will be staying the night it Fl, then boarding the ship the next day.
I would like to save my money and spend it in the islands.ANy help or advice would be helpful.
Thanks

What can I do next?

Well, how much is it for the taxi and how much would be for car rental? Bearing in mind that the car rental would have to be for the number of days that you will be gone, because you will need to make the trip back to the airport. Same goes for the taxi.

I think I would go for a rental car. The first cruise we went on we stayed in a hotel near the port and just expected to get a cab the next day...well let's just say it was a nightmare! That was everyone's idea. It was crazy. We barely even got a cab and as it was we squished into with someone else we didn't know, practically sitting on top of each other and our stuff. With that many people, I'd get yourself a mini van ASAP! I think it will just be less stressful and you won't have to worry. Plus you can take your time and make sure you fit everyone and everything in! Have fun! We have been considering a Disney Cruise, they look so fun! My husband and I are leaving in one month for a cruise without kids...woop, woop!!

We are going on Disney Dream in Feb 2012 and I checked everything for transportation from Airport to port or near port and rental car was the cheapest,we are going 2 days before cruise and we are paying for a car rental $160 for 5 day and will cost us $7 for a parking near port but is still more convenient then bus or taxi.

Here is the place with parking http://www.parkcruise.com

I would assume that some of the hotels near port would run a shuttle service to and from the port and a shuttle service to and from the airport. There maybe a cost associated with the shuttle, but I can't see it being $70 a person. The problem with a cab is that you will probably need 2 cabs for all of you and your luggage, if not 3 cabs. If you could get a good deal on a rental car for a week it maybe worth it.

$70 per person is crazy. I would definitely arrange private transportation - either a cab or a car service. Not sure how you would return the rental, so I don't see how that would work. : ) Make sure the hotel doesn't offer a free shuttle.

Doesn't the Disney Cruise line offer a free bus from the Orlando Airport? I know that WDW does. I know I saw some for the cruise line.

This one is $40 per person

You can rent a van for $200 one way.

Find a hotel that provides shuttle service to the port or take a cab.

You may check with your hotel as well, they may have some sort of transportation. However, we just did a cruise in October and we used the transfers (we spent 2 days at one of their resorts before going to the ship, then went straight to the airport). We went with another family and there were 7 in our party, it was cheaper to do the transfers than rent a car (especially just to have it sit all those days). The buses they use are really nice, they show a little video, and it was totally hassle free. All things being equal, I'd do the transfers again.

And by the way, it was the BEST vacation EVER. We all loved it, bet you'll have a blast!! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to answer them. Really, I'm telling everyone I know to go on a Disney cruise, we can't wait to go back!
