Hello all,

My family is planning a Disney World trip in December and I need some help planning. I also put myself into a difficut spot and am feeling really guilty about it.
We have two boys-ages 10 and 9-and I fibbed (allright-downright lied) and said they were both 9 because I can't see myself paying adult prices for my oldest son. I get asked all the time if they are twins and my youngest is actually taller than my oldest.
Does anyone know if they will ask for any sort of proof of their ages?
Also, they say that you should start making dinner reservations and have a good game plan for this sort of trip. I was amazed when I called to book it and the guy told me I was actually behind and might not get some of the good restaurants etc... Any guidance and help would be appreciated. Thanks!

They wont ask for proof of age. Just say they are twins :-) altough in doing so, you will need to prepare the boys why you are telling people this if you get asked.
I have heard both, make dinner reservations and dont. if there is somewhere you really are wanting to go then you better book it, otherwise just go with the flow and have fun! Reservations will make you restricted to a schedule.

This probably isn't the response you hoped for but paying adult price for your older son and NOT lying is a small price to pay. You are setting an important example for your boys. Your children will likely never exceed your standards but will only rise to them or typically fall short. In a heart beat they will be teenagers when trust is so terribly important. You need to show them what real honesty looks like.

I don't know anything about dinner reservations (when we went to Disney, we pulled up to whatever restaurant we were hungry for at the time) but I can tell you this about those kids menus... MOST restaurants will allow your older son to order from it if you're honest and just ask. In our many years of doing that, I can only think of a couple times that they couldn't.

What a fun trip you'll have and your boys are at perfect ages to enjoy it completely (and remember it). Have fun!!!

BTW- stop at the local Walmart and buy a Disney autograph book. They will go home with tons of autographs of all the characters walking around.

They will not ask for ID for the kids, just don't also plan a birthday dinner or anything where you have to give them the birthdate. Booking dining is hard, especially in December. You should do it now. You can book online, or call 407-wdw-dine. If you are on the disney dining plan, you should make sure you only book those restaurants- many of the cool restaurants (rainforest cate, t-rex) do not take the ddp. Have fun! We have gone the past two Decembers, and although the lines are crazy long, we had a lot of fun.

Go to www.disboards.com and we can help you with all of your planning. Yes it is true.... ADRs (Advance Dinner Reservations) are booked out at least a year in advance, especially for a peek time like December. My stuff is booked for next December.
As far as the fibbing about the age..... No they do not ask you, but sometimes depending on the restaurant; the age determines portions and which menu you can order from. The good thing is, you have boys, so you are not trying to get into Cindy's Place.... Good Luck.... I help people plan Disney Trips all of the time and for FREE!

Check this site out. It has everything you ever needed to know about planning and then some. Disboards.com. It's a Disney chat community. We are going for our 5th time to WDW and on our third DCL cruise next October. For dining you really have to call on the 180 day mark. (they were going to change it back to the 90 day mark but am not sure if that's been done yet) Places like character dining fill up quickly. My advice is to keep trying. Call again. People cancel ressies daily. If you have the dining plan they do ask for birthdays. I did however buy a Mickey's Very Merry Chirstmas Party pass and put the wrong age for my oldest. They did not check the ticket at the gate. They do not ask for proof of age unless you are going on a cruise where you need the birth certificate or passport.
My oldest prefers eating off the adult menu and is 11 now so there is no way getting around it. My youngest doesn't always eat her entire meal so we have left over food and snack credits for her. We have been going during free dining to save money which goes into November usually. If you need any help send me a private message:)

They won't ask his age. You can bring food and drinks in so include that in your game plan. You can make same day reservations at any park, but you might not get what what you want or the greatest time.

You don't say if you are on the meal plan or not. If you have the quick-service plan then you do not need to make reservations for any of the restaurants on that plan and you will all have more than enough food. The dining plan (more expensive) that uses sit-down restaurants (you can sit down at the quick service too!) probably needs reservations so you need to know where you will be each day and where you are going to eat (I don't like this coz it seems like you have to plan your day around your meal). If you are looking at doing a character meal your best/cheapest bet is to book in for a breakfast/brunch. Many of them end at 11:00. We booked ours for 10:55 so most of the restaurant was clearing out and we got extra character time and considered this our lunch - as it was an all you can eat breakfast bar we had plenty of food.

We will be there for Thanksgiving weekend and do not have any meals planned this time. Very excited to see the Xmas lights/parades!!

Have a great trip.

p.s. - although you were sneaky on the park tix if you had a non-expiring kid ticket and the child had "aged out" Disney would still accept them on the child ticket at age 10. Hope that helps your consience.

They don't ask for any sort of proof and I think you will be fine. Do you have the tickets now or will you pick them up when you are there? If you are picking them up there, just go up to the window and get them without the boys nearby. Disney won't ask to see the kids.

Yes, you do need to make restaurant reservations and I do believe it's 180 days out. We usually eat breakfast in the hotel and then make lunch and dinner plans. You are better off making early sittings for both like a 11:00 lunch and a five o'clock dinner. Mainly because, most people are not trying to eat at these times. I would go online and check to see what the hours of the parks are. You probably want to follow the extended hours for each park and Disney rotates the operational hours for each park. For instance, go to Epcot when they close at midnight.

Are you staying on site? This decision will affect your dining choices too. The Animal Kingdom resort has some great restaurants and the Whispering Canyon restaurant at the Wilderness Lodge is great too. Do you want a character experience? These meals are usually more expensive but may be worth it if your kids are into the characters. Are you going for a birthday? Disney has special events for birthday meals.

Don't get scared by the guy saying you were behind. I called the first year we went and the woman was extremely helpful; asking what types of foods we liked and spent the time choosing the restaurants by the categories we liked. I believe I called the month before arriving.

Last year, I was on maternity bedrest but my husband took the two boys. He said that they all like T-Rex which is at Downtown Disney.

I would try to get into several of the Epcot restaurants, they are particularily good.

Good luck, have fun, remember this is your vacation!

No, you don't have to show any proof. And, I think the main restaurants that get booked are the meals with the characters as well as some of the really nice restaurants. I know you have to book those really early.

They wont ask to see proof of age, they wont ask you at the parks either. If you are going during a busy season then you need to call months beforehand, less busy times chances are good you can call early that day and get in for dinner. We took our kids a lot and we love it. Have fun!!
