Has anyone ever got divorced-via internet. I am a single mother of three who has been seperated for more than a year and just want this divorce over with. We don't disagree about anything as far as the divorce goes. We have little money and have been told the internet is the cheapest. I just don't know how to go about doing this.

What can I do next?

When I got divorced from my ex-husband we used a divorce mediator. I don't think it was terribly expensive. Granted I didn't have any children with him. Well good luck to you.

M. Dear,
in the District Court house, there should be an office, "Victim Services". Thank goodness, you do not need THAT, but the people working there are always very nice and caring, if you go and ask them. Even if you print out the papers from the internet, and still confused on how to fill them in, I am sure they will lead you through. They will help you to find a way how to walk trhough it, I am sure. Have a GooDay!

Google 'divorce yourself' and see if there is something from your state about do it yourself divorce. I saw several states had something out there, and some others that may not be so great as well. Good luck

M.- I don't know anything about the internet and divoce but you might look into mediation- if you don't disagree about anything you can find a very affordable mediation process. Look in the phone book in your area or the internet- many list their prices.
Good luck

If you are both agreeing on things you can save on lawyer fees but don't buy the kits from the stores and be careful about the internet forms. Both of those sources could be missing vital information and forms that you need for your specific county. The best bet is to go to your local county courthouse and buy the divorce packet that they sell. You will need to know where this is anyway because that is where you will return to file those papers with the court and get a court date for a final hearing. Its usually really close to the clerk of courts office where fines have to be paid. The clerks can't give out legal advice but they will make sure you have all the forms necessary and will often point out sections to be extra careful on. They have to check those sections when they are filed so if you don't get it right they have to give it back to you to redo so they are usually very helpful. They can give you deadlines on different parts of the packet and an overview of the process. It can be very simple but if you haven't done it before and buy a kit from the store that isn't complete it can be a nightmare. And different counties have different rules too - a friend of mine in another state was required to complete a parenting class with her ex-spouse before they would grant the divorce and in my county that wasn't required and another person I know didn't know where her spouse was so when she filed for divorce she was required to put a notice in the paper for a 2 weeks and then they preceded without him but it is a much longer process to file for abandonment in my area. That weird county rules and arguing are the main reasons most people opt for lawyers. Hope this helps - Good Luck!

I wouldn't risk it. One simple mistake could jeapordize the legality of the entire divorce...then thinks could really get messy. Take the time to go to mediation with your soon-to-be ex. They can help you draw up your divorce petition and make sure it's fair and then present it to the court to be entered as an order. Make some calls, though, b/c you may have to file a divorce petition prior to the mediation process. You should be able to do it fairly inexpensively as long as it is straightforward. I would def. shy away from and 'internet divorce' regardless of the savings.

Hi M.,
So sorry to hear that you are in need of a divorce. My strongest recommendation is to NOT consider doing this process online. Resources on the internet are best suited for couples are separating on good terms, who agree on everything, and just need to handle the paperwork. You need clear resolution on all of the issues in ending the marriage-- especially because you have kids involved. If anything is not handled thoroughly, you could wind up spending a lot of time and heart ache trying to fix it later. Use the internet to gather information and support from other people who have gone through similar experiences. Find a lawyer with a good reputation in family law to help you. The expense up front will protect you and your children much better in the future.
Good luck!

Hi M.,
My brother and ex-wife used the company WE THE PEOPLE. I don't know if you have that around you but they charge a fee and then do all the paperwork for you. You and your husband have to agree and not fight. They won't do any of the mediation for you.

Don't go with the internet! I did and am regretting it. If you both agree to everything, then get just one lawyer. They will be able to make sure that nothing gets missed especially where the children are concerned.

5yrs. later there are some issues that should have been spelled out but the internet didn't make it possible to address everything that was unique to our case.
