I'm trying to understand what's going on with my little one and thought it could be teeth. his first 2 teeth appeared about a month ago with no symptoms. the last couple of days he has been drooling like crazy (which happened last time) but is also fussy, has a red bottom and has been waking at night which is virtually unheard of for us. trying to figure out if it is food related or if some teeth hurt more then others coming in. any advice ladies??

What can I do next?

The same thing happened to my son. He was fine with the first two then when his top two started coming out he got the worst diaper rash on his bottom. We use Hylands teething tablets which works great for us. We also use the Hylands teeting gel. He doesn't like the cold teethers. For the last month he has been teething. He now has 5 new teeth in the last month! Ahh.

HI A.
For teething use oil of Clove, put a little on a Q-tip or the end of a clean little finger and rub it on the gum. It will stop the pain and the bit of rubbing on the gum after the Oil of Clove has been applyed will help to gently help the tooth to pop threw. The Oil of Clove is what Dentists use when they do not want to use novacane. It works great for tooth ake in bigger people also. Yes each tooth can feel different when it comes in . You can get the Oil of Clove at a good Herbal store or possably a health food store. I think it is avalable on line at Swansonsvitimans.com

I hope this helps

It sounds like teething. Its possible that he's getting several at once, considering his age and he only has two teeth so far. My daughter didn't get her first two teeth til almost 6 months. Then next thing you know, she ended up with 6 more teeth within 5 weeks, which started around 8 months. My son seemed to get all of his teeth in groups of 4. Drooling can cause diarreah or loose stools which can cause the bottom rash. If there is no poop issue, then the diaper rash could be unrelated. Waking up in the night could easily be from teething also. I'm sure as a naturopath, you would know some good remedies for him. Good luck.

Each child is different...our daughter didn't have any problems until her k-9 teeth came through and those where awful she pushed through her molars easier then them. Our son on the other hand the first two bottom came no problem but the rest have just been miserable for him! He likes pushing them through one at a time too!

Every child is different. We all know that, especially if we have more than one child. It does sound like he's teething again. One thing that has worked well for both my kids was to give them a dose of the Infant Tylenol right before bed, and only as they really seemed to need it throughout the day.

My son got his first two teeth when he was 4 months old, and then nothing for 7 months. His always sprouted in pairs fairly easily. He's now 4 1/2. My daughter turned 1 last month and got her first tooth a couple of weeks before her birthday. Hers are not nearly as easy as her brother's. Her second tooth is starting to make its appearance and if it's anything like her first tooth it will play hide and seek for several weeks before it actually sprouts through and stays.

Give him some extra love and cuddles, and try to keep your sanity/patience.

Hope this helps,
Melissa

My two-year-old's name is Milo, too!

Could be food. Our son began to have crazy reactions to foods...some of those symptoms were: rashes, hives, upset tummy, diarrhea, etc. But it began with colic, and then the hives and rash came along a few months later. Because he was so little, we only figured out it was certain foods by taking them out of his diet and watching him get better (then re-introducing to see if it caused the reactions again, which it did).

My son didn't have any problems with his first eight teeth, but when those molars came in! WOW! Then for about a month I was dealing with cranky, fevers, restless sleep. So it very well could be the problem!

Hi A.!

My son seems to do the same - some teeth seem to hurt unbelievably much, while others come in with no problems. His second set of teeth hurt more, as well. I was thinking it was because his first set were 'toughening up' the opposite set of gums, so the teeth were coming through tougher tissue.

Just a thought for you!

Yes some teeth are a lot harder to break through than others. Your into natural health, have you tried putting a small paste made of groung cloves and water on the red part of his gums?? I heard of this AFTER we were done with the teething part. It might work.

I know that when my kids were cutting teeth,,, the back teeth were the worst,,,it sometimes sets off extra yeast in their Metabo...you might be dealing with Thrush...look for white-ish yellow film on the lining of his mough, and tongue...just to play it safe give him alittle Yogurt a couple times a week it helps stableizes the yeast,, as he is cutting teeth...it worked for me...PS if you see Thrush take him to a Doc,, he will need Meds...or in your profession there might be a different Remedy

Looks like you've gotten some great feedback. My kids both had diaper type rashes during teething. My doc & dentist told me that because of the excessive salivation it tricks the stomach in thinking that food is on its way so the tummy starts producing acids in preparation for the food. Well, no food comes so there is nothing to breakdown and absorb the acid and there is excessive tummy acids that have to go somewhere. Thus, a red, rashy bum. I gave my kids Tylenol every 4-6 hours as they were teething. If I were in pain, I would treat it that way so I’m sure the baby would like to have help with the pain, too. There is also a teething pill that you can get OTC (over the counter) that friends of mine swore by. Can’t think of the product name but am sure you'd find it looking in the baby section of any big market.

Good luck!

Every child is different, but with both of my boys the front teeth came in effortlessly, but they had a lot more problems with the cuspids and the 2nd year molars, which included all of the symptons you mentioned. We froze baby washclothes and let them suck on those and that seemed to help.

Hi A.-

The same thing happened with my little guy when he was teething. We found Highland's Teething Pills to be very helpful, especially at bedtime. It's a homeopathic remedy that's available at many stores. (I think we got ours at Fred Meyer's.) They're just tiny white pills that dissolve under baby's tongue.

Good luck!

Hi my name is becky and i am the proud parent of a 14 month old boy.I wanted to tell you that when my son started teething we had no idea until they popped up well the 1st 3 any way I thought it would all be smooth sailing...wrong!! I was shocked when he started getting fussy,a sore bottom and tossing and turning all night he popped out 1 tooth and the sore bottomwent away along w/ alot of the fussiness so i think it all depends on which tooth is coming out because the next 2 were uneventful except for the slobber!!

Red bottom in a small child for my two was always too much citrus. If you're breast-feeding stop all citrus including pineapple, orange, lemon, lime, etc. Both my girls had a horrible time of it.

If you are doing 'mixed fruit', a common first baby food, check it to see if it has any citrus. Sometimes it's hidden in the ingredients (usually pineapple) and you don't know you're giving the baby citrus. This happened with my sister in law. Good luck!

Yes, definitely. Some teeth come right through without Mom even knowing. Then there are the sleepless nights, drooling, gnawing, loss of appetite, etc... with others. Good luck! My daughter loved gnawing on a baby washcloth that I had gotten wet, rolled up like a cigar and froze. She also loved eating frozen blueberries! They were her favorite snack while teething.

Hi A.,

Though your child is probably teething, there could be other issues as well. There are natural teething tablets which are great! I would also suggest getting him tested as well as you and your family for parasite overgrowth. We found out that candida or yeast overgrowth contributes to diaper rash as well as sinus and teeth pain.

I personally think everyone should get tested for this, as until recently it was a very ignored issue. We take a product called 3 LAC and you can buy it online at www.globalhealthtrax.org I highly recommend this product as it really makes a huge difference for evert person in the family. :)

Blessings,

Hi A.! Yes, some teeth do hurt more coming in, however the redness could be from food, it is so hard at that age to tell, but if you hav been introducing new food then I would back off till these teeth are in, at least that would narrow down your serach! I used frozen waffles as teethers, it worked pretty good! R.

Hi A.,

Is a naturopathic physician, have you ever heard of hazelwood necklaces for babies? They were originally used by native americans to help calm the pain associated with teething. The hazelwood actually has the property of absorbing your body's excess acid. We just discovered them and they have been a miracle for healing our 5 month's old eczema(they help with a variety of ailments from teething, to eczema, to acid reflux; all associated with excess acid production) and helping with our 22 month old's teething (he's gotten like 8 teeth in the last month including 4 molars) The necklaces are designed to be safe for babies to wear.
