Do You Have a College Degree?

I have a bachelors and masters degree in elementary education and taught for 13 years prior to staying home with my kids. I just recently started subbing in a handful of districts in my area to work 4 to 8 days a month. I love it. In fact, unless for some reason I would need the medical benefits, I think I plan to just sub even after my kids start school. All the prep work is done for me. I simply go in and enjoy a class of kids for a day and go home. I can also pick and choose which days I want to work. It's awesome and the pay is excellent too!

I'm 1 year of classes away from my BA... and probably will never complete it. I've always enjoyed college as well as I make good grades without trying hard. But, as a financial decision ( I DON'T do student loans), I won't finish it... a degree doesn't really apply to my married/painter/stay at home mom life anyways, and I could take plenty of jobs if need be that don't require one. My husband makes the money. I'm fine with that:)

Bachelors in Communication - advertising major. Worked many years in Marketing before kids. My kids both started school FT this year and I went back to work PT working for a parenting magazine. I am the circulation director and event planner. So, it is along similar lines of what I have done in the past.

I'm a prosecutor and I got 12 weeks of maternity leave with each of my kids. Howevever, it was mostly unpaid since I got pregnant shortly after starting in my current job. I absolutely love my job and couldn't imagine being a SAHM. I do feel like I miss out on a lot with my kids but I have a wonderful daycare/preschool for them (2 1/2 and 4 1/2 yrs old) and I believe that I personally am a better mom to my kids since I have a career that I love. I honestly believe that being a SAHM is the hardest job in the world and have so much respect for those that do it. I'm just not wired that way!

I have an AA, a BS, and started on my masters in psychology. I've been through three police academies.

I also have my PHD from the School of Hard Knocks. ;~))

I don't have a high school degree or a college degree.

I stopped attending high school classes in the 10th grade. However, through a program in Washington State called Running Start, I was able to complete a few years of community college courses as a teenager.

I toy around with the idea of continuing my formal education and I think I will go back to school at some point. Right now I study on my own, am gaining experiential education from the (volunteer) work I've been doing, have been blessed with many hard and beautiful life lessons, and gain from my experience as a kinship provider and mother.
Anyway, my brain is fed, but I don't have a paper to prove it ;-)

I look forward to joining the workforce (or school) again and will do so when we can afford it (child care is more expensive than any wage I could realistically bring in), and when it seems like a decision that would benefit my family as a whole.

Yup. I have a BA in History and plan to get my masters once kids are in full time school. I really have no desire to work (and luckily don't really need to) but I foresee a lot of volunteering at history museums in my future and that sounds like a lot of fun to me. :)

I have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and I have spent time working full-time as a veterinarian as well as being a SAHM when I have not been able to work. I am currently doing relief work until the opportunity comes along to work in a practice that I can enjoy being a part of.

I have a Bachelor's in Finance and Management and an MBA. I decided not to return to my job after my daughter was born almost 6 years ago now. I was in consulting and honestly don't think I would go back into that field, although it would be possible. If I did do the same line of work, I would be an independent consultant vs. working for a large firm as I did in the past. Some days I really miss it, especially when I talk to my husband about some of the projects he has going on at his company and he tells me how much he could use my consulting brain to help out, but I just don't think I could go back full time and that kind of work is just tough to do on a part time basis since it is all project based and there are major timelines involved. Anyway, I learned to sew a year or so ago and I actually think I'm going to start my own business making things and doing embroidery. Talk about a 180! LOL!

Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I love nursing. I miss nursing. I really never intended to stay home, or at least for very long. But once our oldest, now 21, hit school age and I missed every field trip and couldn't even eat lunch with him we made a change.
Now, I've been gone from clinical or floor nursing so long, I'm not sure I can go back. But I've been able to do some contract work within the clinical research and legal industry. I've also done some wellness education. Just anything to keep my nursing brain busy and happy.

I'm IN school... if that counts. I won't be done for a few eons. Actually, by the time I'm done, kiddo will probably just be starting. I call it the "paying for college perpetually plan".

My degrees are essentially "job training"... as in I'm going to school for what work I want to do (archaeology, nursing, teaching). Until then, my options are fairly limited; assassin, prostitute, service industry... pretty much sums them up.

I am 3 classes away from my associates, but I also have a cosmetology license. I don't work in a salon anymore, but I still do hair and keep my education/license current. I really hope to finish my degree in the next few years. But I also do a lot of volunteer work in the meantime.

BA in English. I teach AP Language and British Literature to juniors and seniors in high school.

I was an English major but somehow wound up in Accounting. Go figure.

Some people think English is a useless degree or you can only go into teaching with an English degree, but it comes in very handy in the business world. I always wind up with all the writing assignments that no one wants to or can do.

I have a BA in English Communications, and recently started going back to school for a management degree. I saw my transcript from college and wish I could go back and time and give myself some advice. I took so many useless courses - I enjoyed them, but they do nothing for me career-wise. I just didn't have guidance and didn't know how to ask for it. It makes me sad, but I'm working to turn it around and bump up my marketable skills and education.

My husband (MBA) has always been in outside sales and I have always been his "admin" and managed his expense reports, travel, and customer calls since the HQ's were usually in the NE somewhere.

I am fortunate to be able to stay home with my daughter (16) and work as the admin for my hubby. However, 3 years ago, we decided we could run a business in the same industry (raw materials, consulting and brokering) decided to take the plunge. Now I am officially co-owner, CFO and manage all the financials as well as admin job and hubby is the negotiator and sales person.

I also love volunteering at my daughter's schools and I am on the board for the the cheerleader booster club this year at the Sr high level and last year at the high school level, I was President of the cheerleader boosters.

We love being our own boss although it is tough to stop working sometimes when you run things from home.

I do have two degrees, and I've been a SAHM from almost 3 years now. I had planned on returning back to my field, I was a legal secretary, when my kids were old enough to go to school all day and would only need daycare for a few hours after school. Now that I'm pregnant with twins, and will have 3 kids, I need to make sure the cost of returning back to my field is worth the cost of daycare. I wouldn't call what I would need retraining, just the legal field is constantly changing so I would have to learn what has been developed since I left and changes in the law.

BS in computer science. I stayed home for 6 years -- had chosen to, then became a necessity due to birth defect. I was lucky to get a job in 1999 due to Y2K (needed more programmer/analysts) but after 9/11, lost that job.

I did go ahead & retrain -- got my Microsoft Certified Applications Developer but it has not been worth the 7.5K (8.5K after paying off loan) I paid for the courses. Currently, I'm working in an admin position and not very happy :(

I plan to go after a Data Analyst job at some point.

I was in college when I met my now husband. I quit before we got married and never finished--that was 8 years ago. I was over half way through. So, I'm very excited to say, I am starting back up in January and I hope to have my BS completed in 2-2.5 years (maybe sooner!). I can't wait to go back!

I have a BS in Elem Ed. Stayed home for five years w my first two kids, It was very hard to get a job when I needed to go back to work. Kept working with my third and let hubby be SAHD. Now I'm getting my Masters.

College and grad school . . . plan to return to my profession when my youngest is 18 (I will be 45). I have been homeschooling for the past 5 years, and worked part-time during that time too. I stopped taking projects last year because I just don't have enough hours in the day.

My biggest regret is not going to college. However, I got married and had kids very young. I have worked full time since I was 16 years old, and helped put my husband through school. I am, however, educated. I try hard to keep challenging myself, and I will go to school someday. I have been learning Latin, reading quite a bit, and I have challenged myself to work on my artwork (after not drawing or painting almost 10 years) every day. I am working on 4 pieces right now and have finished 2 paintings in the last month!

I have a B.S. in Economics and Finance. I just went for the dual degree when I got it. My daughter was just shy of 2 when I got my degree and my son was a month away from being born. My kids are now 8, 6, and 4, and I am 38 school weeks away from having my M.B.A. in International Business. I am currently a Foreign Military Sales Business Financial Manager supporting Navy Programs. So yes, I do work in my field. However, as good as I am at finance and making the numbers work, I am HORRIBLE in accounting!

If I return to the workforce, I will legally have to take a test or two to get my educator certification back (unless I can rack up the professional development hours needed in the next couple years.) I am not sure it's worth the money for me to pay for professional development classes. If I go back to the workforce, it likely won't be to teach, honestly. Tutoring on the side, paraprofessional or something less stressful. Heck I'd rather go work at the grocery store. Yes I love teaching childrren, but I like being able to leave my work at work and keep my home and home. Taking my work home (when I was teaching) was stressful!

Yes, I have a BBA in Management Information Systems from Texas A&M. I worked in corporate America for 13 years and held every position from developer, DBA, System Architect, to Project Manager. I left to stay home with my daughter.

My daughter is 4 and I am currently pregnant with #2. I am 40 and my husband and I agree it is better for our children and the family for me to be home until they go to college. We are very blessed to have this option and we plan to take advantage of it.

I have a BS in Biology and went to graduate school and got a Masters degree as well. After my first child I took off 4 months and then went back to work half time. I did science writing and research and then got a job doing marine science research. I had my 2nd child 2 years ago and have been a SAHM for 2 years now. I plan on going back to work next fall when she turns 3. I will put her in a preschool and look for a half time job. I do not think I will need to do any training in order to get a job. The kind of person I want to work for is the kind of person who understands taking off for a bit to raise kids. I have had a ton of work experience bc I had my kids in my 30s and had already spent my 20s and early 30s working full time as a Biologist and doing a lot of field work. I hope it all works out when I go back to work - we will see!

I have a BA in Philosophy, always planned on the PhD track, but had kids instead. Now I run a very part time catering business and sub teach for a living, and there's nothing available in my original field of study that wouldn't require me moving out of town for 2-3 years. Next move? Open a business or go back to school for teaching.

I've been a mostly-SAHM for 17 years now. I can't imagine working full time lol! I do envy a bit the regular adult conversation and the monetary reward of a good day's work :D But, four kids is an awful lot of work, even when they are all in school. Part time work suits me well right now.

I took off 8 weeks to have my son, and 6 weeks to have my daughter (that's all the time I had since I had used up all fo my leave days with my son). I am currently getting my MA in Teacher Leadership and hope to graduate in October of next year.

Yes, B.A., Journalism. I only took six weeks off after each child (I'm self-employed, so no paid maternity leave) and then returned to my job as a freelance writer. If I took an extended break, I'd definitely need to take refresher courses to get up to date, especially when it comes to online PR trends.

You have to keep up with your training whether you take time off or not.

I have a BS degree with a double major in Marketing and Finance. Still enjoy a career in Sales and Sales Management. Worked while raising two great kids who have now earned college degrees and advanced degrees in their respective fields -- and have jobs! I did have some job flexibility and worked part time for about 7 years when the kids were in school.

Bachelors and Masters in Nursing. I loved working as a nurse midwife, but I LOVE being full-time Mom at home so much more. Certification and license is all current, but don't plan to return to work soon as I still am needed at home by my 6 yr old, 3 1/2 yr old and 21 month old.

I began staying home when my son was 9 months old and am expecting DS # 2 in February. I do plan on going back to work once all the kids are in school full time but am not sure what I want to do when I do go back. I have a few years to think about it and get any training I might need.

No, I didn't finish my degree, I have 60 liberal arts credits and I've had them for over 20 years. I took only a few years off of fulltime work (although I still taught childbirth classes and did some freelancing) from when my kids were 5 and 1, til they were 8 and 4, then worked part time a couple of years and then back to working everyday.

I have a BA majoring in East Asian Political Science and an MBA. I am the main breadwinner in our family so yes, I work.

AA, BA in Communications/Public Relations, and probably 21 units toward a Masters in English (decided not to teach after all). Also have a cosmetology license that I keep current. You never know :) I work in higher education (university) currently.

Not yet, I have been working on it for the last 20 years and have about 60 credits or so. Last semester I got that darn algebra done and that was my main quest. This semester there is so much going on at home that I needed a break. So hopefully in January I will be at it again. My goal would be a bachelors somewhere between legal and business so that I could possibly run my own business.

As one poster mentioned her mom went back and got a degree later in life I will probably be like that. I did get an associates after high school in secretarial science in New York City back in the mid 60s.

Life has given me many experiences and I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world.

I have a degree in fine arts, I work as a commercial artist, or graphic designer, whatever you wanna call it. A BFA. I was working on my Masters (got about 1/2 done) and whoops, I'm pregnant! So now my priorities have changed, I'm working part time and raising my baby! But I would love to finish my MA one of these days!

I can proudly say that I am now a college graduate. I got my degree in May in Criminal Justice. (Only took me 7 years to get the stupid two year degree!)

I start back to school in January. I'm going back to school to get my degree in Culinary Arts as well as my degree in Pastry and Baking Arts. (I'm never going to use my degree in Criminal Justice. I finished it just to show my kids that I could and I would.) Once I'm finished with my second two degrees, I'll open a restaurant.

I have a BA in English with a minor in Philosophy (joke: What are the first words of a Philosophy graduate: "Would you like fries with that?" Ba dum bum). I am currently in the last semester for an MA in English and looking into either teacher certification or a second MA in teaching. I have taught freshman comp, but my real niche is 11th and 12th grade English (hence the second Master's).

I have a college degree and stay home. I have no idea if i will be able to get back into my field (commercial interior design). As it is over half of my coworkers were layer off in 2007 so the competition for jobs and clients is dismal.

I have my Bachelor's in Marketing. And I have no desire to ever do marketing again! There are so many other things I am interested in now that I wish I was aware of when I started college! I don't plan on joining the workforce again...unless I have to I guess! And I always joke with my parents about it...I went to a private, catholic college...not cheap...and now I'm a SAHM! heehee!

Yep, I have a B.S. in psychology, a B.A. in music (vocal performance), and an M.S. in forensic psychology. I'm currently working in the forensics field doing criminal analysis for the medical examiner. When we have babies though, I plan to be a SAHM for a few years before I return.

FAVORITE MOST IMPORTANT JOB-Motherhood! And while we still watch pennies, do not make a lot of money I am and always will be a co CEO in my home. My mother will be eighty this year and got her Bachelor's about two years ago. Never regretted spending as much time with my children as I could. My mother is an example that no matter when we will always be able to learn.

I have my BA in Business admin and I plan on going back next year for my MPH! I am a full time professional- Auditor and workingon my Commercial Insurance Associates through the state of Florida! I also am really involved in my kids school- Class rep for my son's class..on the Student advisory council and will be trianing next month to help 1st graders read during my lunch hour !!! I want a better life for my kids and myself and trying to work on it all-- busy little bee!!

I have a BFA in Theatre. I am both a stay at home mom AND work in my chosen field--- however not as often as I'd like and not for as much $$ as I'd like, either.
My husband does NOT have a degree but holds a high position at one of the world's biggest companies and makes enough to support us.

So, degrees don't mean everything! Ambition, drive and hard work matter alot more, I think!

Have a BSBA, an MBA and a doctorate. I stayed at home for 10 years and now work part time (for financial reasons -- 20 hours per week -- mostly for college tuition :).

I have a BA and a MBA While I am not at home I did make a career change so that I wouldn't have to work more than 40 hours a week.

I have an AA in Cross cultural communication to be a missionary. We were headed to Mexico but couldn't raise the support we needed to be there full time. But getting my degree and the training we needed helped us be the people we are. I'm a stay at home mom but my degree helps me be a better mom, homeschool teacher and just a better person because of my training.

i am currently working on my BS in nursing and i am goin to dual major in psychology. it is very hard because i work four, eight hour shifts at night and i got to school during the day i feel like i really miss my daughter by the financial stability will pay off in the long run.

I have a Bachelor's degree and am probably the least educated among all of my friends (most of whom have graduate or doctorate degrees). My husband has his Master's degree and is the primary breadwinner.

I highly doubt I will return to fundraising for nonprofits. I cannot deal with the whole "whoever pays the piper calls the tune" etiquette anymore. I haven't stopped writing grants since being a SAHM - my kid has medical needs and her school is not one of the more monied ones in Chicago, so I have plenty of opportunities to stay in shape.

Seriously, I don't see the point in me retraining for anything when I do go back to work. So many of the traditionally lucrative careers when I graduated college don't make squat anymore. I'd rather be a struggling artist or writer with a little debt than an unemployed junior attorney with huge student loans to pay.
