Do You like AT&T U-verse

Hello Mamas!
My family has been using Time Warner Cable services for our internet, phone and cable, but I feel like we are paying way too much. I am thinking of changing our service to AT&T's U-verse, as they seem to offer a lot more at a much cheaper price. Knowing that you always get what you pay for, I am curious as to how current customers like their AT&T U-verse? How's the service? Phone lines okay? Internet fast? DVR and on-demand what you would expect? They say that the internet comes with wireless access throughout your home, but is that true? They say that the DVR can record 4 programs and that they can be seen on any tv in the house without additional boxes? Is that true? Any input, good or bad would be very appreciated. Thank you in advance for taking the time to respond.

We have used Time Warner and Comcast and are now with Uverse. We definitely like Uverse the best. The DVR works great. The only problem we have with it is that you only get one DVR box. Recorded shows can be viewed, paused, rewound, whatever from any tv in the house (up to 4 I believe), but LIVE tv can only be stopped, paused, etc. from the main tv that is hooked up to the DVR box. So my kids can no longer pause a show they're watching...they have to record it and finish watching it later. Other than that we are very happy with it, but have found that all the services really cost about the same when it's all said and done. We needed certain channels for the kids and for my MIL who lives with us, so we had to go for an upgraded package which ended up costing just as much as the other services. So don't count on saving too much!

I have 2 friends that did the switch over to UVERSE AT&T and they both switched back to Time Warner less than a month later. If I were you stick with what you have,Call Time Warner and ask for a discount. We called asked for a discount and we got alittle taken off the bill. Time Warner does not want you to switch, so they usually willing to comply with the customer. B.

We used to have Dish Network with AT & T phone. We switched to Uverse b/c my husband wanted lower bills for everything, like promised in ads.

We are paying more, now, because of the 2nd receiver plus other things that they DON'T tell you about (it's in all the hundred lines of fine print.)

I loved Dish Network. We could only record 2 shows at a time, but the remote was very easy to use and there were NO hidden fees.

I hate our PHONE service with AT & T U verse. There was a very loud buzz on the line when talking to someone. It took 4 techs to make trips out here to try to fix it!! What a pain to have to schedule work around 4 workers to the house. And it took 2 45 minute calls to tech support and all we got was a lower/ little quieter buzz. We still have noise on the line and it is very disappointing.
The last answer we got was "that the digital phone signal is more prone to interference than the analog." So my question back to them was so, if the sound quality is worse with digital, why the heck are you guys pushing it so hard?? Answer, "because it is cheaper to provide to customers."

The internet works well, I must say....but am ticked about the crappy home phone line and the extra charges. Unfortunately, I think we are in a stupid 2 year contract. Oh, yes, the first 3 months after we switched, they were double billing us---for old phone plus all the new U Verse charges!! Even charged full price for the 2 weeks that our phone wasn't working well.

I am glad you asked this question! I feel better now that I have had a chance to vent. And I hope someone who works for AT & T reads this.

I am not really sure but did want to warn you about AT&T package deals. I joined them and not only did I have to fight to make them give me the rebates they promised but after the introduction period I find myself paying more than ever for cable, High Speed internet, home phone and cell phones. With AT&T you are paying your cell phone in advance every month whereas you can go direct to the cell provider, same with cable. I found going direct to dish was cheaper.

I love my U-Verse. It is way better than DirecTv or any other satellite or cable. You can only record on the tv where the box is, but I'm pretty sure you can watch it on any tv. Plus the video on demand is great.

Shelly,
We have had At&t u-verse since Dec. We were previously with Direct Tv. We have high-speed the wireless internet, phone service & tv service. Of course your computer has to have a wireless network card to take advantage of the wireless internet. (which they usually come with unless its an old computer) We are very pleased with it. All the questions you asked, my answer is yes!, Like a few other mom's have said, you can only set the main receiver to record, but you can watch the recorded programs from any room that has a receiver. We even received a $100 rebate in the form of a gift card in the mail, for switching over to u-verse so be sure & ask about that too.We have the 200 channel line up & I think the first year is reduced monthly cost, then after a year it goes to normal cost, you can ask about this too. If you have a HD TV they also offer HD service with HD channels & then regular channels. Example lifetime channel for regular TV & lifetime channel for HD tv.
It rarely ever goes out in bad weather like satellite tv does. Hope this helps answer your questions.

We have AT&T U-verse and I am very satisfied with the internet part of it and so is our friend who is our computer "guru". He has AT&T U-verse and so do several other of our friends. Internet fast? Yes. Phone lines okay? Yes. We haven't used DVR on demand. My husband is satisfied with the TV part of it but, just so you know, he can watch reruns of the Andy Griffith Show, The Bill Cosby Show and other old series over and over again. He also like National G and the History channel. We have two of the three groups of channels offered. I don't think we have TCM but we do Netflix and he is a happy camper. He also has a ton of movies on DVD. He could make a fortune if someone would just pay him for watching movies......smile

I will try to make this short but don't know if that's possible. I got Uverse in April and have had nothing but problems, not with my internet but with the tv and with the technicians who come out. The wireless internet you've heard about is true although I've never tried it because I never use my laptop but they did give me a code to use it so I'm guessing it works. The dvr - yes you can record 4 shows at once. But if you are recording on all 4 tvs at the same time, you have to either watch something you are recording or you have to watch something that has already been recorded. Yes - you can watch your shows on your dvr on any tv but we have a box in every room, they told me you have to have a box in every room with a tv and each box is an additional $7 a month. I have never used the On-Demand so I can't answer about that. I do not have a phone either, only internet and uverse tv. I'm having issues with my tvs freezing up and they can't figure out why, they said it could be due to radio towers in the area or any number of things and until they test everything they won't know what the problem is. I've had at least 12 technicians out and on 3 different days someone in my family took off work to be there for a technician who was scheduled to come and they never showed up. That is very frustrating to take off work only for nobody to show up! Only the last technician who came (last Friday - 3rd tech out in a weeks time) did not blame the problem on the tech who was out before him and I think the only reason he didn't was because when I called in, I told the customer service person I was sick of hearing every guy blame our tv problems on the guy who came before him. My parents on the other hand, have had uverse for over a year and they've never had one problem so maybe its just my area (Westbury). I only got it for the dvrs and so I could watch my recorded shows on any tv. Comcast is offering me a better deal now so I'm thinking of switching - I just really don't want to have to change my email address again so soon. I have a special with Uverse for $19 off for the first 6 months and my bill is still $119 a month for the Uverse for 4 tvs and the internet($30 of the bill). Hope this helps. If you have more questions or don't understand something I wrote, feel free to write me back.

well a few years ago we signed up to get time warner and the day it got connected we had it disconnected because we did not like the picture quality we had dish for 3 yrs but we now have u-verse we have had it for 3 months and so far no complaints, the internet is wireless however they do provide a wire if your pc is not wireless capable and the DVR works like you ask aswell ( you do need to have the cable box on the other tvs but you dont need additional dvrs) that is probably the only downfall that you cannot access cable through out the whole house unless you have a cable box but since we had dish that was nothing new to us....it my opinion its worth the change...good luck!

Hi Shelly,

WE LOVE IT!!!!!

We have had it in our home for about a year now, and haven't really experienced any problems....except one. Not a real biggie, but a smidge annoying anyway. When they first installed it in our home, my husband was here and was bs-ing with the installer. Who entertained my husband by listening to all his "funnies" and "stories." So, the installer was a bit distracted and didn't hook up the system correctly in our bedroon. So, we had problems with it cutting out for about the first week. Once we realized that it wasn't happening on any other tv's in the house, we called AT&T, and they quickly responded, and fixed the problem and gave us a free 2 months. That's a bit above and beyond, and we were very impressed.

We have since enjoyed the service for a bit over a year now, and haven't had a single other issue. We recently upgraded to having our phone added to our plan, and got all the additional movie channels for free for 6 months.

The customer service is fantastic, and we are very very pleased. I can't recommend them enough.

I don't know about u- verse, but I had phone internet and cable thru at&t and it all worked really well, but the cost was never what it was supposed to be. They goofed up my bill every month until the promo time was up and then the internet price doubled and the phone price went up about $20. However, I do acknowldge that it could have just been coincidence, and you may not have any problems out of them.

we too are goint through this process right now. At the end of our first year with TWC they jacked up the prices. I called and the lowered it back to what it was for another year. A month or so ago the prices went back up. We called and got it lowered but it is still $10 a month more than what we were paying. We would love to do with out the TV part altogether but dropping it means we lose the bundle pricing and are only saving like $10 a month. Cable is worth $10 a month to me. I've been looking into the AT&T stuff and their price really isn't all that different. I would maybe save $5-$10 and that isn't worth the hassle of having a new phone number I have to change everywhere. And, we are getting faster internet speed through TWC. To get the equivalent of what we have with TWC (pretty basic, no extra channels)AT&T costs a bit more. So, although we would like to tell TWC we are not happy by switching, there really is no other benefit for our family to switch. Best of luck.

We like U-verse very well. We've had it for 2 years, I think, right after it came out. We switched from Time Warner (right before they became Comcast) and were very glad we did. The DVR and on demand are great, IMO. We have wireless access, but I can't say for sure that it is because of what AT&T offers.

The DVR CAN record 4 programs at once. It is limited with HD channels, though. I believe it can only record 1 HD channel, while still recording 3 other regular channels, but not 2 HD channels at a time. When they say you can watch the recorded programs on any tv, that means any tv with a box, but it doesn't have to be the DVR one. DOes that make sense? The box in our living room has DVR and the other boxes/receivers in the house do not, but you can still watch programs, set programs, and control them from other receivers. You can't watch the programs on a tv without the receiver, though.

Hi Shelly,

I have AT&T U-verse. I previously had Direct TV and felt like they did not respond to customer needs, so I switched to AT&T. I have all of my services (TV, phone, DSL & cell phone) with AT&T. The pictures are very, very clear on my TV. My phone lines work great. You can record using the DVR just as they advertise. I do record programs on the main box (in my living room); however, I am able to watch them in other rooms. You can only erase them from the main box, but you can definitely watch them in other rooms. My service has been great.

It is a wonderful product. All of those things are true. My husband and I are moving soon and he won't move in to a neighborhood that doesn't have u-verse. My parents have it also, they were one of the very first in san antonio. they have an older home/older lines and cables, so they had lots of issues at the beginning but AT&T always took care of the problem, and adjusted their bill accordingly. hope you get it and love it as much as we do.

We love u-verse! The phone line is not a problem at all...every once in a while the cable will freeze, but it will resume in a few seconds. We had Dish Network before and it would go out if the wind blew too hard! Our internet is super fast, but we can't pick up wireless. I was told we would need a wireless router if we wanted that. There are great deals online if you sign up that way...much better deals than calling and ordering. Good luck!

We loved the service, but hated the bills -- every month I was fighting with AT&T because they would not have calculated the bill correctly -- always adding on something that should not have been added and then we'd pay the correct amount and the next month they would say we still owed because they would show the old amount. I would go through the fight again, and it would be fixed, and the next month, here we'd go again. We LOVED the service, though -- so much better than Time Warner. Unfortunately, U-Verse isn't available everywhere, even when they say it is, so be careful! When we moved, they told us it was available in our new neighborhood, so we were just transferring the service. When the technician came to install it, he said we were too far away from the tower or whatever, and after making calls to his superviser, etc., the best answer I got was that the sales people don't always know where it will work and where it won't -- only the technicians know. So be careful if they tell you it's available -- try to talk to your neighbors to find out if they have it or get a tech out to make sure it will work.

I have to say, though, even with the billing issues, which they told us were caused by our combining the U-Verse, Internet and cell phone bills, we would still want the service. In comparison to Time Warner, which we had to get, it's so far superior. As soon as it's really "available" in our neighborhood, we'll switch back.

We have liked our experience with ATT Uverse.
Phones are good, wireless works, internet speed is fast.
I don't use the DVR option and we just have the one tv, so I can't speak for those...
The only negative that comes to mind is that it is not as cheap as they said it would be. They talked a lot about how using this service would get around a few different taxes - that did not turn out to be the case.
It's still a good deal for us, just not quite as good as we were led to believe.

Love the U-verse. I read the responses and just a couple of things:
You get 1 receiver then it is $7.00 dollars per receiver. Although, I have also heard $5.00 per receiver.
I don't do HD, budget tight, but the picture is just so much better than any cable or satellite dish I have ever had.
I had problems at first too but they came out no arguement and quite quickly to get it fixed.
I did not want the landline so I did take that package. Now friends of mine REALLY investigated and said just an open month to month deal is better than the rebate deal as in the long run you will pay more than that rebate. They LOVE their U-Verse. My sister has her cell tied in and has a sweet deal.
Oh, they have several package deals, one that loads family channels, geared to all in the family esp younger, and takes out channels that you may not young eyes to run into.
The parental controls are parent friendly and not so frustrating to do.
Also, they offer a 1 month trial of computor watch it where another company can help you find out what is going on with your computor when you are having a problem that is not ATT. Example, can't get into email on that computor only (can at work or the library). ATT came and said it is something in the computor, the service can go in and see what is causing the problem and guide if possible to correct it. It is $15 a month charge and goes on you U-Verse bill. Kind of cool even if you use the first month free just to clear/identify any problems with your computor.
That's about all I've got!!
Good luck to you and your family!!

I have had the AT&T U-verse maybe for five or six months. Had some difficulty in beginning, but it is o.k. now. They provide a large modem that controls your tv and internet. Everything works just fine. Had some minor problems in beginning, but now know how to reset everything in case it acts up. Get the 30/30/30 deal which equals $90.00 for all three services. You get free long distance which is a big plus. I don't have the DVR provision because you have to have a more expensive plan for getting that. I would highly recommend this plan!

Shelly,

We are currently AT&T customers and almost everything about it. The tv/phone/internet service is good. We are paying slightly more a month than we were with TWC, but we also have unlimited long distance with AT&T and we didn't with TWC. The only downside with AT&T and this is just my opinion, is that you have to pay extra per month on any additional boxes for any other rooms. I love the DVR. We have an almost 3 yr old and they have a better selection of kids/learning channels than TWC does. They also have a better selection of Christian channels than TWC does without having to pay extra. We have the U-verse 200 and it's plenty of channels to choose from.

At the time we moved to our new home, we didn't have the option to select between TWC and AT&T, so we had to go with AT&T and I'm happy we did.

Peace,
E.

My family absolutely loves AT&T U-verse, we were so excited when it became available in our area. We have our cable, telephone line, internet & cell phones with AT&T and are very pleased with our services. Can I just tell you that after hurricane Ike last year, when our power was back on we had our cable back immediately. The internet worked immediately as well. They have several plans and I believe 4 levels of internet to choice from. We do not have the top end of the internet package but the 3rd level they offer which is very affordable and is very fast. Yes you can record up to 4 shows and then you are able to watch them from any of the tv's in your house. I have been very pleased that when we have had bad weather and the power is out the DVR and TV service is back up within 5 minutes of the power being restored. The DVR is awesome, I barely watch live TV anymore, I have gotten spoiled on skipping over the commercials. You can now record and erase a program from any of the cable boxes in the house, that is a fairly new feature that could only be done before on the DVR. Yes the internet is wireless network in your home. I hope this helps with your decision and good luck.

Be careful though. U-verse is great but if you have any type credit problem no matter how minor they will not upgrade you or give you an additional box for another room etc. This just happened to my daughter who had one late payment on an account which occurred during her divorce. She bought a house and put in AT&T and then just bought her son a TV and wanted an additional box and they told her no due to this late payment on her credit report. What that has to do with getting another box is beyond me. She has never missed an AT&T payment and if you don't pay them they will cut off your service so why would they deny people this. So if you get it, get all that you want at the beginning. She is going to cancel AT&T and go elsewhere based on her experience with them.

No. I had three services (phone, internet & uverse) until this April. Even added their cell service. With the digital conversion coming, I upgraded to include dvr with the uverse and disaster ensued. Either I had phone service and nothing else or I had uverse and nothing else. After 5 repair visits in less than 2 wks, I had all service disconnected and returned the equipment. Here it is July and they are still billing me for equipment that was returned and I keep receiving "come back" mailings.
So far no problems with the cell phone.

To Shelly,

We love ATT U-Verse! We went from no cable to ATT and have no problems and yes, you can record and then watch your shows on any of the TV's that you have connected. I know it can record 2 shows because we have done that. It can do as many as four, but we have not tried that yet. We have had for over a year and have had no problems. Friends that have had Time Warner truly loved the switch to ATT. They are now sad because they have moved to an area where they have to go back to comcast. Good Luck! I think you will like it!

We have been very satisfied with AT&T U-verse. At first there were a few adjustments that had to be made to keep the picture from "freezing"--it turned out to be interference from our cordless phone. However--and this is the feature that I LOVE the most--we were able to call their service line, talk to the service rep, and get the whole thing taken care of over the phone. In fact, we have never had to have any service person visit our house. Anytime we have a question or a problem, we call the service line, and they fix it!

As for the DVR use, we don't use that feature. The internet works just fine and seems to be a little faster than when it was connected to a cable.

My daughter and son-in-law switched to u-verse and like it very much, as well. (I have heard one horror story from a man in the Spring area who couldn't get his system to work at all and ended up switching back to cable. However, no one else I know who uses u-verse has been unhappy with it.)

Hope this helps you.

I currently have AT&T U-verse. So far so good. Its true that you can record up to four programs on the DVR and you may look at the program in any room that has the box. The only concern I had was that if there was a storm you might not have phone service. You won't be able to call 9-1-1. They offer you this backup battery, but once its gone you have to purchase the next one. I have not been able to use any other computer, except for the computer that is hooked up. The service is pretty fast, they give you options on the speed. I have the phone, cable (for 4 rooms)and internet, came out to be about $165 month. You have to pay $7 for each box. You will have to pay extra for a faster internet service. Beside this its all good for now. I have had the service for about 2 weeks. Also, check out Grande.

AT&T...for me I would say no. They charge more, and then if you decide to switch prior to end of contract, you have to pay a whole lot for each phone, or internet connection you decide to disconnect. Contract fees suck, and Comcast doesn't have them. Plus, for the Internet, and phone bundle, Cable is much faster than using the old fashioned telephone lines (in the IT field, we actually call it POTS--plain old telephone service), and the voice is clearer...with a whole bunch of free services that go along with a Voip phone system. When I lived in a Time Warner Cable area, it was better than what U-verse currently has to offer...and I do not recall hearing about enormous mystery charges.
