Do You Remember Where That Came From?

My sister thinks I am weird because I can remember where each piece of clothing came from for my kids. I can tell you if Grandma bought it or Santa brought it. Is this weird? I can also tell you how long my kids have had that piece of clothing or if it is a hand me down from so and so.

Can any of you other mama's do this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Ok thanks I'm not feeling so weird now. Yes, I can get to the grocery store and forget what I went for, but can remember where that shirt came from 5 years ago. :)

No.. but with other pieces of imformation that seems to be cluttering my head. I remember how old I was and the date it was when my grandparents passed away and my great grandmom. I was only in 3rd grade when my great grandmom died.

I'm pretty good at remembering where clothes and toys came from, mostly because if it came from someone out of state that we don't see on a regular basis, I want to make sure the children thank them to their faces when we DO see them, so yeah, I've GOT to remember ;) I also like making sure the kids are dressed in something Grandma bought if they're going to Grandma's house, stuff like that. Just so people feel like their kind gift got use, you know? ;)

I do! At Christmas I always make sure to know who gave what and for some reason it just sticks in my head. I am the say with hand me downs and so forth.

Oh ya.. and esp the clothes from my MIL.. they are always the ugly ones, lol. But I am always gracious and my kids always wear them.

I used to be able to. Now that my kids are older (at least three of them are) I just cannot keep track anymore. They are teenagers and borrow clothes from friends, buy their own, etc. My youngest on the other hand is four and has gotten so many hand me downs from friends that I cannot keep track of that either. Hmmm, maybe I'm just old and my memory is going!

Yes, and my husband thinks it's weird. I have a horrible memory but a savant-like ability to remember the circumstances under which we recieved the kid's clothing.

Most things I can remember. Some, no. There are times when I have a hard time remembering. Thos being when we have a birthday party and there is so much commotion that I cannot think straight! It actually kind of bothers me because I really like to try and remember who gave what to my kids. Christmas is the worst. They get so much stuff that I never remember who gave them what!

Yes. I didn't realize it was weird! People have often remarked on my incredibly good memory, but I don't think it's odd to know or remember where you purchased or received articles of clothing.

I have 2 kids and can pretty much remember where their stuff came from. Clothing as gifts, clothing from hand-me-downs, clothing I bought myself, toys I've bought, toys from Xmas, and toys they have bought themselves. Mostly.
Now, some things come in the house that I don't know where they materialized from, but not many. My kids are almost 10 and almost 13.
The things that I don't remember who gave to them, THEY DO.

Totally everytime.. Same with our Wedding gifts. We have been married almost 30 years..

You would be great in retail. It is like a giant Game of Concentration. I can see a china, silver, crystal pattern and tell you the manufacturer and the pattern. I see brides and their mothers, that I registered them for their weddings and tell them their china patterns, but cannot remember their names. I have been in retail for 35 years.

I find my memory to be a bit annoying. No one else remembers the things I do. :(

People's memories work differently. Names, faces, times, dates... audio, visual, kinesthetic... learning styles... we all process and store information in different ways. Typically in one of several groups of ways.

I do too. I remember nicely who gave and what to my kids on their birthdays or special occasions.
I also remember my family's and in-laws' B-days. I mark them on a calendar for my kids and husband to see it, but I do remember! . I don't know, it is just the pleasure, niceness to receive and give I guess. Some people remember and some people don't, that's all.
