Ok so I'm wondering if any of you have taken a pregnancy test, the test came back negative and later found out that you are indeed pregnant? I took a pregnancy test on day 28--maybe a bit early--it was negative---now day 31 and still no period!! Should I take another test or just go to the doctor?? Has this happened to you?????

What can I do next?

I took several tests with my daughter and they all came out negative even though my blood #s were over 12,000 (a test should be positive at 25). I have a healthy, happy 13 month old to show for all my false positive tests. GL!

That is how it was with my first one. I took a test at 28 days (negative), then at 31 days (negative), then again at 38 (finally positive). I didn't test positive until 38 days. I guess the hormone just wasnt strong enough to read on the test.
Hope this helps

I have made the mistake of taking a PG test too early, read it as negative, re-tested a week or so later and it was positive two times! Both times I was trying to get pregnant and I was a bit over-eager to find out if I was! The most importnat thing is to take a multivitamin containing AT LEAST 400 micrograms of folic acid every day whether you are pregnant or not (or trying or not), and refrain from smoking, drinking, or any other dangerous activities if there is even a chance that you are pregnant. I would say to wait and re-test at home or go and get a blood serum test at your doctors office, the blood test is much more sensitive and you can find out for sure if you are preggers or not much sooner than with the urine tests. Good luck, I hope that you get the answer that you want!

Just thought I'd warn you that your mind can cause your body to play some crazy tricks on your cycle. I never realized how much so until I had a similar situation to yours. About 2 days before having had my IUD removed, DH and I 'did the deed', and the dr informed me during the 'removal' that I could get pregnant from that. When my period was a day late (which it NEVER is - 27-28 days without fail!). I was convinced I was prego, but the tests I kept taking came back negative. After being a week late, I finally went to my docter, and he 'validated my feelings' by telling me that if I thought I was pregnant than I was. I relaxed and went home and started my period about 2 hours later. I am convinced that I had my body convinced it was pregnant when it wasn't.

That being said, when I finally did get pregnant 2 months later, it took until day 31 or 32 for the test to show positive. Tests on the 3 or 4 preceding days (yes, I was OCD about it) all came back negative. I would give it another couple days then test again if no period.

Treat your body as if you're pregnant. Take the prenatal vitamins, drink more water, sleep on time, don't work your body too much.

Take the test again in a week.

Pregnancy tests are super cheap if you have it done at an abortion clinic. You don't have to get an abortion. You don't have to listen to their planned parenting speeches. Just tell them you need proof of prego for your insurance. It's about $5 for the whole appointment.

It happened to me with my 2nd. And even after 30 days, it was still such a faint line that I went and got a digital one, just to be sure. I'd say try again in a few days.

It's happened to me a few times. I'd test again in a few days.
Also, I agree with those who have mentioned stressing about it can delay your period even further (even if you're not pregnant). Relax as much as possible and give it a few days.

this just barely happened to me. I waited even a few days after day 28 and got a negative. But a week after that still no period. I just had this feeling like that test was wrong so i took another one, and sure enough i am pregnant. Wait a few more days, maybe even a week and test again. If you think you might be, (I just had this sneaky suspicion that i was), eat like you are. i started taking vitamins just in case. good luck

I got a few negative tests before mine finally came back positive when I was pregnant with my son. Just wait a bit longer. There is really no need to go to DR now, they can give you a blood or urine test (if that one is even accuratethis early on?!), but will knowing a couple of days earlier make a difference? If not, just be patient. You will probably either get your period or get a positive test in a bit. :o)

For some reason, EPT tests do not work for me. With my first pregnancy, I used one and it came back negative. Since there were two in the pack, I used the other when I was 24 weeks prego and it still came back negative.

It might just be your period getting back to normal - the babies are only 18 months old and it looks like you TOTALLY have your hands full. Your body may just be compensating.

2 sets of twins? That's pretty cool! I wish you many breaks and personal time outs!

Yes take another test. That happened to me with my first pregnancy. I took a test the very first day that I missed my period and it was negative so I waited about 3 days and took another test. sure enough I was pregnant. So I would take another one. If you still haven't started you period you are probably prego. Let us know the result.

I had 2 negative pregnancy tests with my son. I think I finally got a positive one at 5 weeks. They aren't too expensive if you go in to the doctor and then you would know for sure!

Not to scare you - but when I was first pregnant with our twins, I took a couple of dollar store pregnancy tests & they both came up negative. Just call your doc and ask if they can order you a pg blood test. Wow, two sets of twins, all boys -- you are my hero. Good luck to you!!

Do you know when you ovulated? There are a number of things that can delay ovulation, and if you ovulated a few days later than usual, you would technically be "late", since your luteal phase (the time between ovulation and when your period happens) if really quite consistent. If you know that you ovulated at your normal time and you are past your normal luteal phase, then test again in a few days. If you go longer than 18days past ovulation and you aren't getting a + test still, it's a good idea to check with your dr to make sure that you don't have a cyst or something.

And with all that said, this has happened to me, more than once. : )

You can always take another home test or go to your family doctor and take a blood or urine test!

With my first guy I didn't know till I was 3 months pregnant. The home tests kept coming back negative. With my second we found out at 2 months. At 6 weeks pregnant I took a home test and it came back negative so I went to the doctor and that test came back negative. I felt off so at 8 weeks I went back to the doctor, took another test and was pregnant.: )

I had that problem with this pregancy. I tried taking the test a couple days after I was due to start and it was negative. I tested every other day after that. It took until I was a week late to get a positive test from a home prenancy test.

Just wait another week and take another test. Choose a name brand this time if you didn't before. I was 6 weeks pregnant once before it showed on a test. The first tests were Equate and showed negative, but I felt pregnant so I kept taking a test every few days and finally decided to spend the money on a name brand test. It could have been the brand, or it could have been the timing, I don't know.

I had a false negative urine test and a false negative blood test once. I had a 6 month old baby at the time and had not had a period since having her, so I don't know how far along I was, but I felt pregnant and as it turned out I was pregnant. Wait a week and try again.

Yes, it has happened to me several times. Those OTC pregnancy tests fail to detect small amounts of pregnancy hormones early (despite their claims to the contrary). Since I have a history of miscarriages due to low pregnancy hormones in the first few weeks, I would definitely go to the doctor ASAP. But you've had 5 kids already so you probably don't fit in the same category. If you do go to the doc, make them check your hormone levels (if you are pregnant) and supplement if they are too low. Most docs will try to dismiss your concerns. It's so frustrating. Don't let them. Persist or find a doc who will listen to you.

I say take another test, too. When my son was just under a year old, the same thing happened to me. The difference is that my period never came that month which had never happened in my life unless I was pregnant. However, I was NOT pregnant. I had so much stress in my life (my son was having eye surgeries) that my body just skipped over that month and then my period resumed again the next month.

Yes, this is common. However, I think it's a little early, yet, even for a doctor to determine. Do you have any other symptoms? I would wait a week and take another test. Maybe even wait a 2nd week for a 3rd test. Then if it's still driving you crazy, go to the doctor for an official test. The other thing to consider is your age. I am 37 and my periods started getting irregular once I turned 30.

First make sure you read the directions and take the test correctly. You can get pregnancy tests from the dollar store and they work just as well.

Do the urine test first thing in the morning when the hgh is highest. I tested twice and was negative....3rd time was positive. The line was barely visible at all, but was there. I was at my Dr later that day for my yearly asthma check-up and Rx updates anyway so they tested my blood levels of hgh. The results the nurse called back with...she said was "negative"..."the # meant a day to a week pregnant" which didn't make sense. I knew I was pregnant, so I didn't understand whey the # on my results would mean a week to a day, but still be called "negative".

It turned out that one week after I finally got my positive urin test that I miscarried. I figure the hgh was so low on the blood test because it was never growing right...possibly a reason too that the urin test was negative for so long.

Another thing is that you could just be having sporadic cycles right now. After my 5th child my periods were really irregular for several months. They ranged anywhere from 20 days to 35 days or more. Not helpful for knowing what to expect at all!

When I was younger I completely skipped one full month. I wasn't on birth control or even sexually active but I completely skipped and went from 28 days to 56 that time. Very unusual, but it can happen.

Now that I'm 37, I think my hormone levels may be a factor and that I'm possibly becoming peri-menopausal (or whatever you call it) before you just aren't fertile at all and stop having periods.

Good luck.
