I just ordered a pizza from Pizza Hut for my kids and a babysitter, and learned that there's a $2.79 delivery fee now. So, would you still tip the driver? Is the fee just an additional charge from corporate and the driver still makes very little money? Or do pizza delivery people now make a regular wage (or at least equivalent to a fast food worker...)
For what it's worth, I ordered a $10 pizza. Then there's tax and the $2.79 charge, so the total is $13.74.

Yes, the driver provides a service to you.
The fee has nothing to do with the driver's income.
The drivers saves you the time from going to pick up in rain or shine.
The $2 is probably all the driver makes for that delivery. While most chains now require the driver to do other things in the kitchen and get minimum wage, most drivers only get that $2. My husband delivers and he only gets the delvery fee plus any tips.
I did have a time that I did not tip. The pizza box was smashed and the bag of chicken I ordered with it was torn up. He was not professional at all.
Yes, the driver gets to keep the tip. The delivery fee is typically either the only wage the driver gets or it goes to the company who doesn't pay the normal mininum wage to the drivers.
I worked at Pizza Hut for 6 months. I made minimum wage plus tips plus I got paid $1 for every order I took out for gas. You got paid an extra quarter per delivery for putting that pizza hut sign on your car. Tips really did make it a difference in my paycheck since minimum was like nothing back then. So yes, please tip your drivers. They are the ones who are bringing you dinner, in the rain and snow. :)
Yes, you should still tip the driver. Many states (our state is one of them) require employers to pay IRS mileage as well as an hourly wage when they drive, so that $2.79 is probably paying mileage and hourly wage (which for delivery drivers is often the bare minimum, or even the "tipped employee" wage of around $2/hr). The driver still makes almost nothing from the company, and relies on tips to pay the rent.
I don't know Pizza Hut's specific policy, but I do know that most restaurants do NOT give the driver that delivery fee, so they are still dependent on tips. So yes, I always tip the drivers, 15-20% depending on how far the place is from my house, because the drivers also have to pay for their own gas.

The delivery fee DOES NOT go to the driver. It even says that on the website and usully also on your receipt. The only money delivery people get to keep for themselves is the tip. Most places pay minimum wage, but the delivery person has to pay for their own gas AND wear and tear on their personal vehicle. If they get reimbursed for gas and/or have a vehicle provided, they make the server minimum wage, same as a waiter/waitress, which is peanuts-less than half minimum wage. Either way, they make little to nothing in wages once withholding and SS are taken out. The only way they make any money is with tips.
Yes, I tip at least 20%. And that is why I don't order out for pizza very often. That $10 pizza turns into a $20 pizza when you account for the delivery fee, taxes, and the tip.

Regarding Min. wage it depends on your state, some states pay servers (delivery driver can be considered a server) min wage, like Ca & Az - but many pay 2.15-3.50 in states like Tx where the server's min. wage pay is different.
I tend to tip. I figure the person doing the driving to bring my food isn't going to be the one to benefit from the delivery fee. That money will belong to the store.
there has always been a delivery fee. that goes to the pizza hut. the driver makes minimum wage and pays for his own gas. I always always tip the drivers.

a small mom and pop place, it usually is to cover the extra insurance costs they incur by putting drivers on the road. If it's a corporation, it's just greed...lol.
Drivers live by tips; they make very little hourly like waiters, not minimum. Some get paid a little more for mileage, but not all stores do that.

If there's already a delivery fee then that's for him. Looks like about 25% fee for delivery. If you want to give more it would be up to you. You can always call the store to find out.

Driver's do not get the delivery fee so I still tip them. The company keeps the delivery fee which I think is a total rip off. I was told it was to cover fuel however I know for a fact that the drivers pay for their own fuel because I worked at both dominos and papa johns 20 or so years ago.
If they mean they are covering for the fuel to delivery supplies to the store then just adjust your pricing accordingly and forgo the delivery fee.

I tip for food delivery, but not for big things like furniture delivery.
