Do You Wear Lipstick?

This probably seems like a silly question, but I'm 27 and have only worn lipstick three times in my life... twice when I was done up pin up style, and once for my wedding (my mother literally tackled me and said 'YOU NEED LIP COLOR!!')

Anyway, since I'm very pale and have red hair, most reds and pinks are out... naturaly mauves are good.

So instead of spending a mazillion dollars on lipsticks I'll never wear, what are your favorite colors and brands, and why?

I'm on this new kick where I attempt to make myself look 1/2 presentable (instead of being in pjs and a ponytail all day)... I put a little mascara on and a touch of lipstick before the hubs gets home ;)

I DON'T like lipGLOSS, my hair sticks to it... I usually use nude chapstick, LOL! I can't do anything TOO outside of 'natural' colors, not just because of my skin and hair, but I have a pretty big mouth... you can't tell when I smile, but when my mouth is closed my lips are pretty big, and I don't like calling too much attention to them (maybe I'm not used to it?)... I have a really nice natural color without anything, I guess that's another reason I haven't been a lipstick girl so far!

You killed me with "no lip gloss". I very rarely wear lipstick--not even once a year--but I wear the hell out of some lip gloss. I hate when my hair sticks to it, so I have to remember to put my lips in when I'm in the wind. Otherwise, I have no problem, especially since I usually keep my hair pulled up or back.

(These days I usually wear nothing, with an infant who likes to be kissed.)

I'm also a redhead and always wear lipstick. I have zero natural color and look sickly without it.

A brand recommendation for you: Just for Redheads. Can't go wrong with any of their lipsticks, because they're all colors that work on redheads. They ship really fast, too.

I use Burt's Bees lip shimmer. It's inexpensive, feels nice, adds a bit of color, but not as much as lipstick. It's just a tint, and looks fine as it fades throughout the day. http://www.burtsbees.com/other/peppermint-products/lip-sh...

I don't wear lipstick either. I look like a frog (okay, maybe JUST to me) and it usually gets smudged within the first minute and a half. This is a nice in between product.

I use the ColorStay Ultimate from Revlon.
It truly, truly does last 24 hrs. You have to take it off with something oil based (I usually use lip balm and a kleenex).
It's not sticky at all once you have it on, and doesn't wear off with eating, kissing, etc... it also doesn't make your lips feel like a desert floor. :)

Supreme Sienna is my color. Subtle, but noticeable.

I'm pale as can be, and lip color makes a HUGE difference in my face. (Sick patient vs. healthy looking!)

Nope. Not since the 90s. I use a nude liner and then i dot this stuff over it that is good for my lips called "Egyptian magic" it has olive oil, royal jelly and bee propolis in it(other than that i will use chap stick or a tinted lip protection like burts bees). I don't use lip gloss or lipstick because it makes my lips crack and i dont like how it looks anyway.

Plus i have big eyes and i wear eye makeup. If i did too much to my lips id look like i was trying to hard.

I haven't found a lipstick I like as much as I like gloss. I like Glazewear by Avon. The trick is to put it on and blot, like you would lipstick. If you leave a lot on your lips, you might find your hair stuck. http://shop.avon.com/shop/product.aspx?pf_id=37553

Avon makes good products in general, IMO.

LOL... I HAVE to be done up pinup style in order to wear red lipstick. It looks awful on me otherwise.

I was made to swear on my life never to wear dark colors for every day walking around. Okay. Fine. I get it. I'm a freak. (google image angelina jolie, and you'll see why... i have dead on coloring and *similar* facial proportioning. You'll only find one or two pictures out of thousands on her with dark or red lipstick. Dark lipstick just looks HARSH on me, not sexy.)

So I wear pale pinks, sheers, and colored gloss. I always have my hair pulled or pinned back from my face, so I usually wear gloss. A pinky-nude color from GAP.

get a neutral color. I like tinted lipgloss personally. I am so lazy about putting on lipstick even though I wear make-up. Love Mary Kay products and bought a tinted one with SPF. Blot a bit and it isn't too sticky...Gives a little more dimension to the lips.

I would recommend you look at other's lips and determine what it is you like or do not like about their color or appearance. Then ask someone whose lip color you find particularly attractive, what brand they are wearing and how they apply it.

Over the years, my favorite lipstick has been MAC. They have gorgeous, transparent shades. So no matter what color you go with, some of your own, natural lip color shines through and I never regret having applied their lipstick. It always looks nice on me no matter what color or outfit I am wearing. Now, I have only bought 2 lipsticks from them as they last me a long time.

I have gone to lip gloss with a tint of color instead of lipstick. I generally dont wear makeup during the day unless I have a client appointment. When I dress up to go out with hubby I do have a lipstick I put on that isn't so much a dark or bright color as it is a frosty plum color. And I did find some kind of chap stick that has a tint to it that I LOVE! It gives some color and shine without being really wet and sticky like gloss. It was at Walmart of all places so I plan on getting more next time I go. =)

I don't like lipstick or gloss because my hair gets stuck in it too, and it comes off on everything....drinks, collars etc. I use lipliner over my entire lips to color them in, and then give a quick wisk of lip balm and it lasts most of the day and looks pretty natural...depending on the color choice, usely a nudeish, mauvish, raspberry, I have fair skin and dark brunette hair. I always think that red looks so great on people, but I feel like a clown when I try to wear it.....if I really want to go dramatic, a wine/burgundy works better for me.

I usually use Burt's Bees over chapstick because I'm beginning to make healthier choices regarding skin care and the products I choose.

I think you should try some reds and pinks. While all shades may not work for you, you may find some that will surprise you. Recently my husband asked me to wear makeup a little more often. I am going to surprise him with weekend by being totally glammed up with new colors he hasn't seen on me. I will experiment Saturday morning and then see what happens when I show him when I take him out Saturday afternoon into evening. Came across a few great videos at www.healthybeautyproject.com with tutorials on how to pick colors and how to apply makeup.

Nivea makes a tinted lip balm and that's what I use. I like the Cherry Red color because it is sheer.

When I'm getting all fancied up, I use smooch proof lip stain by NYC. They have a variety of colors. I'll put that on and then clear lip balm on top for a bit of shine.

yes i do. if I dont do anything else to myself, I put on a non-sticky gloss or tinted blistex and a coat of mascara. It makes a whole world of differance. When I get "all done up" I like to have balance on my face. If I am going heavy on eye makeup, lots of black liner and mascara, I like to do a nude lip or a baby pink pout. I use a nude-ish liner and top with a nude lipstick or gloss. Or line the outer corners with a wine colored liner and put pink lipstick and gloss on. It really gives you that shiny pink pout. They've come along way since 7th grade. Not all lipgloss is sticky. If I am going with a more subtle eye, like a sweep of a champagne color over the lid with brown liner and mascara, I will do a deeper color on my lips, like a wine. If you like the color of your lips, just find a liner and gloss or stick close to that color. That way you just look polished and more finished.

It's hard for others to suggest a color without knowing you :) Why not go to the makeup counter in your favorite Department Store or Sephora and ask for a "makeover"? They will help you select the color that looks best on YOU. Clinique is awesome but any of them should be able to help you out...Bobbi Brown & Bare Escentuals are other options. Don't feel pressured to buy everything they put on you, but you can get some ideas and splurge on a lipstick.

Well I use lip stains/lip liners.
I hate lipstick or gooey things on my mouth. Too messy.

I was one who, well in college/high school, would wear dark lip colors sans much other make up/minimalist make-up. But never, foundation. Never wear foundation ever.
Blood red or black type colors on my lips. It was my 'trademark" and got so many compliments on it.

Now, I still wear lip stains.
Or chapstick.

Hubby can't even tell I wear make-up and says I look the same with or without. Great.
But when we first met, he loved my lips. Its full without being big.

Usually everyday I wear full eye makeup, so I opt for nude lips. I like NARS tinted lip glosses. Non sticky. Sometimes I use Origins "once upon a shine". For me though the key to that is to apply a primer, a nude pencil, gloss and blot. Too much on there will catch your hair.
I have thin-ish lips so I never thought I could wear lipstick. At first I found the cheapest lipsticks I could find (wet n wild and off brands) and experimented with them. When I was comfortable putting it on and with the colors I liked, I matched (can't match exactly but you can match the color category) the shade with a better brand (you can feel the difference on your lips, and how long it wears).
Good Luck

As far as making oneself presentable before your husband gets home...just a note...my husband HATES makeup. He thinks it looks painted on, fake, and gross...and that's even if it's professionally done. I do not wear makeup, even though I can do it well and subtly, because he does not like it.

As far as for myself...I've never liked it, especially lipstick. It tastes gross, it smears, it leaves marks on cups and everything else, and well...makeup isn't good for you. It's just not.

If you haven't ever worn it, I guess I wouldn't start. It's like smoking...if you've never started, why start now? It's just an expensive habit that really isn't good for you. :)

And I'm not knocking people who wear it...but like I said, if you don't wear it already, why start? Good for you for being natural.

Yep... love it, love it, love it! Even before I became a Mary Kay consultant I wore it all the time. I have all of MK's lipsticks, tinted lip balms with SPF, liquid lip colors and glosses. I can't stand it when I don't have lipstick on! LOL

Go to a make-up counter (if that's the route you want to go) and ask for samples of lip color... you can also look up MK consultants in your area and ask for samples without doing the facial.

Note- the trend this autumn is plums, but just remember, lighter colors will make you look younger and it will make your lips look fuller. AND... people love full lips! I know you may be self-conscious about your lips (I understand how that is... I have full lips and I felt the same way)... but people get injections so that they can get the look that you have naturally! I can't tell you how to feel about your lips, but I'm guessing there are quite a few women who would LOVE to have your lips... and since your hubby is the one kissing those lips, I bet he loves them too!

People look so nice in lipstick (as long as it doesn't look like smeared jam on their mouth!). I'm hopeless with makeup and colour, but I found that at the department store makeup section some of the brands have a guide for which lipstick colour to wear for your skin and hair colour. It's good to check it out.
