We are moving back to Clw this week from Chicago (YEAH!) and I am pregnant with twins and in need of a new OB/GYN - a friend reccommended Dr. Peterfreund (has anyone been a patient of his?) and I am also trying to decide on a hospital - I was told one with a level 3 NICU was best for a twin pregnancy. Has anyone given birth at either Mease Countryside or Morton Plant? Thanks for your help. I appreciate any reccommendations.

What can I do next?

I delivered at Mease Countryside and LOVED it. It was my first child and they took such good care of me the entire time I was there. I went to ALL Femcare off of US19 and loved it. The staff makes you comfortable and there are two male doctors who are very nice and informative. You can see just one or switch off. Also, their sonographer is excellent.

Dr. P is with Bay Area Women's Care and they only deliver at Morton Plant. The doctor you choose determines where you deliver - most only deliver at one local hospital. I've not been to Dr. P but have heard good things. I will tell you though that Bay Area Women's has 7 doctors and they rotate at the hospital. You will get whoever is on call that day, regardless of who you have been seeing for your visits.

Are you looking for a natural birth or medicated? If natural, I would stay away from Bay Area and pick a practice that has midwives also.

Dear N.,

I also LOVED Bay Area Womens Care. Sometimes the office staff wasn't the best, but I have found that everywhere! I had Dr. Paniello deliver my daughter and he was great. My pregnancy turned into a high risk one due to my blood pressure. Dr. Todd was the one who did most of the monitoring. He was VERY caring and probably the best one there. He knew it was my first pregnancy and he always took the time to explain everything. Towards the end, I was seeing the doctors twice a week with non-stress tests and ultrasounds. They ended up inducing me at 38 weeks at Mease. I had a wonderful experience there also. I was able to have a vaginal delivery and it went perfectly. I know I am an anomally, but I can't say enough about them. I only wish we hadn't moved and I would have been able to use them for my second baby.

Hope this helps, D.

I had my both my babies who are now 2 and 3 at Morton Plant and had a great experience. You have your own room and the dad can stay there also on a convertible chair. The baby can stay in the room with you from the start. It is nicely decorated and the staff is great. I had an emergency c-section with my last and they were really great even though it was a scary time. Good luck!

I also go to Contemporary Women's Care, but their location down on Seminole Blvd. just north of Park Blvd. They are a wonderful group of all women doctors and midwifes. They delivered my daughter at Morton Plant and will be delivering my son in December as well. Morton Plant is a great hospital. All the staff are so caring and helpful and you get your own private room and are able to keep your baby with you (though they do have a small nursery if you need a break). They also have a great room they call the conservatory, which is basically a room for you and your visitor's to spend time in instead of being cramped in your room all day.

Good Luck in your search! I know it is not easy (I was looking at moving the middle of my pregnancy and had started looking for a new doctor when things got postponed).

Congratulations and WOW, WOW, WOW - you are going to be very busy!!

Hi, my name is B. and I am a mother of two boys age 2 and 3. I went to Dr. Peterfreund's practice, Bay Area Women's Care. It is a group of doctors and they have several offices throughout town. My direct doctor was not Peterfreund, I only saw him twice when I was on rotation, but he has an excellent reputation around town. I can share my personal experience with the practice and my doctor in the group.

My doctor in the group is Gregory Todd, M.D. and he delivered both my boys. My first pregnancy came with some complications and Dr. Todd was very thorough. He is never in a rush and answers all of your questions and concerns. He is patient, kind and professional. He is a great doctor and I do not say that lightly. I have had several health issues and have seen my share of doctors. I can tell you with all honesty, Dr. Todd is the best doctor I have seen regardless of his specialty.

The group, staff as well as doctors, were always on top of things. The staff is friendly and supportive.

I delivered both my children at Morton Plant Women's Center in Clearwater. They were fantastic as well. All delivery and recovery rooms are private and the nursing staff was exceptional. I have many friends that have delivered there.

HOSPITALS AND NICU LEVELS - this is what I know
Morton Plant Mease, Clearwater-NICU level 2 with a neonatalogist on staff.
All Children's Hospital - NICU level 3 (only a children's hospital)
Bayfront Medical Center - NICU level 2 - located next door to All Children's Hospital (I have not heard great things about this Hospital)
The only hospitals that I know of in this area that deliver babies and have NICU level 3 in the same hospital are in Tampa - Tampa General Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital.

I don't know about Mease Countryside

God Bless you and your family!!!!
B.

Yes I have delivered at Morton Plant with Dr Shelly Young of Contemporary Womens Care ###-###-####). They are located off of Corbett across from the hospital. It is a wonderful group of all women, 5 OB's and 4 Midwives. I had my son with her (7-6-06) and I am expecting my daughter on 9-8-07. They are awesome. My experience with the hospital was great too. The labor and recovery nurses were all wonderful. I wouldn't have changed a thing. Good luck with everything!!

I delievered both of my girls at Morton Plant. I really enjoyed my first delivery, but my second one was a little crazy. I do not feel I was tended to as needed, etc. I am sure it would be different for you since you are having twins. I would think you would be a little higher priority or monitored better. My best friend delivered one of her girls at Mease Countryside by c-section. She said she really liked it. Mease Countryside is newer and the rooms are bigger, FYI. In regard to the doctor, I have not heard of him/her.

Good Luck! Wow, you are going to be super busy. I thought I had my hands full with a two year old and 5 month old!!

I would have to suggest Bay Area Women's Care in Clearwater, which Dr. Peterfreund is apart of. They are a good size group with great doctors. They also have the 4D Ultrasound and it is a major PLUS!!! The nurses and doctors are WONDERFUL. I also used to work for Morton Plant Mease (Baycare) before I left to become a full time mom. I will tell you that they are the best hospitals around. Having given birth at Morton Plant and working there, I can say this with great experience. You really can't go wrong. Good luck and congratulations on your growing family!!

Hi N.,
I am a first time mommy to a beautiful 6 month old baby boy. Dr. Peterfruend was my OB/GYN and I absolutely loved him. I had a wonderful experience with him and his entire staff. Everyone was very friendly and efficient. I also delivered at Morton Plant and it was fabulous. Again all the staff their were very friendly and helpful and the hospital was very clean and comfortable. The rooms are nice and they also have beautiful views of the Gulf. Just make sure you request a gulf view before they move you over from the delivery unit ;o). Unfortunately I forgot to ask.:o) Hope this helps and congratulations.

Dr. Peterfreund is great. He was not my main OB - I had Dr. St. John who was fabulous. Dr. Todd ended up delivering my baby and it turns out I love him too! The entire practice of Bay Area Women's Care is excellent. I highly recommend them. They only deliver at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. From what I've been told, that is the best place to have your baby. It is the most cutting-edge hospital in the area. The nurses and doctors were the best! Good luck and congratulations to you!

N.,

Welcome back! Congrats on joining the "Mommy to 4" club! My kids are 6,5,2,1yr...it's so much fun.

I wanted to recommend my OB in Clearwater Dr. Perez at All Femcare. His number is ###-###-#### and he's a big Cuban Teddy Bear. His staff are always super sweet and always there to help with anything you need.

I delivered my last baby at Mease Countryside and it was like staying in a hotel. I don't know how it would be as far as a NICU is concerned, but I had a c-section and the rooms, staff, and food were amazing. The maternity ward is all brand new, the rooms are very nice and the baby was able to be in the room with me right from delivery. Again, will probably be a different scenario with twins, but you can go and tour the facility and check it out.

They have a nice kitchen where anyone that is staying with you or visiting can go and get snacks and you get to order your food from a restaurant style menu, so I had ceasar salads, soups, etc...it's not 5 star quality, but it was like eating a cafe (much nicer than the food at the other hospitals I was at with my other kids) it's important when you are there for more than a few days.

I hope this helps, feel free to contact me if you need anything else, I'd love to hook up and set up a playdate when you are up for it. I have another friend who goes between Chicago and here and she has 4 young kids also. We can all play together...my kids would love it!

If I remember correctly, Dr. Peterfreund is from Bay Area Women's Care. They are an absolutely wonderful group and I highly recommend them. Dr. Todd was my doctor and I recommend him to everybody. He was so personable and he seemed just as excited the day I was delivering as we were! They couldn't find scrubs big enough for my husband (6'4") so he was going to have to wear a gown. He didn't care. BUT, Dr. Todd did and he ran down to the laundry room before my c/section to find him some scrubs. He said a man should not be wearing a gown when his son comes into the world. He was so excited when he came back with them. He actually ran by the delivery room to tell me before running down the hallway to my husband. I was laughing and the nurses said he's always like that. I had freaked out during my first c/s (another dr and hospital) and Dr. Todd was so caring throughout the whole thing. He kept reassuring me and would lean over and ask me how I'm doing during the c/s. As you can tell, we just loved him. Anyway, I did get around to all the doctors and they were all so nice. I remember feeling so comfortable with all of them so I'm sure Dr. Peterfreund is just as great. I just can't remember which one he is.

I delivered at Morton Plant. I was very happy with the hospital. The nurses there were sooooo nice. One was so busy in the middle of the night in starting me on water, broth, and then a little solids after my c/section. I know it's their job, but she just seemed so caring. They were great.

I work at Morton Plant where I interact with the nursing staff in L&D as well as NICU. They are all excellent & totally on top of their game. Friends of mine who have given birth there have been very pleased with their experiences. I had my daughter at St Joseph's Womens Hosp b/c I was living in Tampa, and wasn't that impressed. I also know women who go to Dr. Peterfreund's group and love it.

Congrats on your growing family! Best of luck.

I gave birth at mease countryside. I had a good expirence there, but it depends on which hospital your dr delivers at for you to give birth at. My dr's only delivered there so i had no option. however, they a new maternity ward at Mease and it is very nice, but honestly, I was there for only one and a half days and my expirence was postive,,but mainly because i liked my midwife and I had alot of my interactions with her, nurses come and go, but my midwife was there to coach me and check up on me. To me, that was what was most important.

You may want to consider Contemporary Woman's Care. They deliver at MortonPlant Clearwater which is a fantastic hospital. Mease Countryside is a great hospital as well though, so if you go with an OB that delivers at either hospital you can be sure that both are excellent.

I just delivered at Mease Countryside in April and I loved it. Everyone was really nice and it's brand new. You have your own room and it's really big. I moved here in my 9th month of pregnancy from Colorado and the obgyn I found here made the transition really easy. It's Countryside OBGYN, my doctor is Trisha Llewellyn. The only bad thing about the hospital is that there is no nursery. I had a c-section and could have used a little break from the crying =)...but in the end it was great to have my son with me the whole time. Just something you might want to know before you decide. I hope that your move is great...Good Luck!!
