Does Anybody Else Talk to Their Pets? JFF

I have a Siamese that is a little over a year old, and I just love talking to him! As soon as he sees me (I take him places, friends' homes at times) He will just talk, talk, talk! When he's hungry, he talks! When he just wants me to acknowledge that he is there, meow!
Does anyone else have chatty pets? Do you talk back? I do! Often I can find out what is wrong by asking him, food or litter? He'll go to the one that he wants, or meow at me when I say the right one :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I understand the baby thing, I spoil him rotten really. I also think I may have confused him with his name, his orginal owner called him Jack, his name with me is Jimmy, and I call him Baby a lot and responds to all of it now

We have two deaf pets....cat that we have had for 16 yrs and a Great dane we have had for 2 yrs. I talk to both of them both vocally and with ASL. We have 3 other cats and 2 other dogs that yes I talk to them too. They respond in various ways. One cat will even start "yelling" at me when it is past bedtime. Yep starting about 10:30 if I'm not in bed he will start meowing at me full volume.

As one other person has said, Siamese are notorious talkers. I have always talked with my animals. All 3 of my cats(mixed breed rescues) are talkers. Cats are social animals just like humans. So, it makes sense that we want to connect. Both my husband and son also talk to the cats; it's not just me :)

Siamese are known to be 'chatty' and talkative.
It is their disposition.
Nice great cats.

Sure, I think everyone talks to their pets.

I must admit I talk to my cat. She is my four legged child as I have no other children so I treat her as such as silly as that may sound.

Of course! Some animals are really good at teaching us what they want. I had a dog that was a master manipulator. She wasn't the most vocal, but talked tons with eyes and body. Also pets make the best secret keepers.

Heck, I talk to everything - neighbors pets, butterflies, birds in the yard (I'm always telling the killdeers "Don't even THINK of laying eggs in the driveway" - they do anyway and then I put a cinder block near the nest so no one drives over them), plants, trees, etc.

Yes I do. I have 2 cats and they were our babies before we started having kids. I took them to petsmart to have their pictures taken with santa. My husband used to work for the local DPW and all I had to say to Smokey was "here comes daddy" and he would go nuts. He would sit in the window and follow his every move. Our other cat Lucky would meow that he wants lovin. We always say that they are our first kids. They are spoiled as much as the kids. Now that my daughter has a puppy at grandma and poppy's house we spoiler her too. She loves the attention.

uuuummmm yeah!!! aren't we supposed to?

My dog talks back...he tells me he loves me....it's sooo darn cute!!!

Grady LOVES pretzels and he will sit by the pretzel jar and say "please" until I get him a pretzel...then he'll do a shake, sit, lay down, kiss me - he's learning how to dance now...it's hilarious!!!

You bet! And my Bella talks back! Crazy dog. She knows when I'm sad, happy or in pain. I had back surgery last year and she kept a very close eye on me!

Yes, I talk to my cat and she does talk back. Last week she was jealous of my grandson and hissed at him loudly the first time and then much quieter later. Now she is looking for him (we took him home over the weekend). Before that when I had two dogs we talked to them all the time. So you are not alone when it comes to talking to animals of all kinds. They are family members too.

When I was a kid I had an indoor dog and she was the best! She didn't talk back too often, but I sure confided in her a lot! When I'd be upset about something, she'd listen and snuggle in to comfort me! Molly was the best dog ever! I can't wait for my kids to get a little older so I can get another indoor dog!

Oh yes ~ all of us talk to Daisy and the cats and even the chickens! Daisy doesn't talk back but uses body language and jumps around and spins circles. When she needs water or thinks its time to eat she will gently grab my shirt sleeve with her teeth and guide me to her bowls. She doesn't do this with anyone else, just me. It's very cute!
The chickens will follow you around the yard as long as you talk to them. They cluck and cluck back as long as you keep talking.
The cats will meow at us until they get fed and when all 3 get going it gets quite loud.

I have a talking kitty too!! His name is Gus and he just turned 15. We got two kittens in January (they were born in October) but they don't talk to me like Gus does. He is visibly aging - I hope he lives for a few more years. I will miss him when he goes :(

I talk to my cat all the time. She talks to us too. She has all sorts of meows and noises, and they all mean different things, and we all understand her. She understands several of our phrases we have for her as well. I even started talking to the little lizards my hubby just got. Not the same as talking to kitty, but I do it anyway!

Yes I talk to my cats... all 13 of them!! They are very loving, social and attentive - so it feels like they are talking back. Since we've moved them all out onto our new screened back porch in preparation of having the baby soon - they are obviously missing being inside with me and I miss them too - - but I'm really liking the no kitty litter, no more hair flying everywhere and zero occasional wet piles of paper... I do miss their company tho. I don't go out to be with them often other than to replenish food, water and litter box (I fill them, not empty them) because it's so dang hot outside!!
