Does Anyone Have a Good Remedy for Cactus? Ouch!

I was trimming some cactus in my backyard and despite my precautions I still got it on my feet and arms. It's not the thorn type, it's the fuzzy type. All the little things got on my skin and the only thing I can equate it to is the feeling you get when you touch fiberglass. I can't even see the needles! Oh, it's driving me crazy, does anyone know how to get rid of it? Thanks in advance!

I actually saw a medical show pertaining to a little girl who had these all over her body. After many different methods, including tape and other medical interventions, they ended up using wax like for eyebrows or legs. It worked well, and pulled it all up with minimal effort.

I apologize if I repeat another response... I haven't read through any of them.

There are 2 good ways to get rid of them.

#1 duct tape or other really sticky tape- stick it on and peel it off.

#2 My Kids Favorite Method... White School Glue... spread it on in a thin layer - wait for it to dry clear and peel it off.

Good Luck!

This sounds crazy but it worked for my son. Wet your hands then put salt on them and scrub. Rinse and repeat if necessary. Hope it works for you.

Hey S.,

I had that happen while trying to plant a prickly pear cactus and the "fiberglass" analogy is very apt. (my boss had referred to the removal process akin to "shaving your legs with tweezers") I actually carried a pair of tweezers around with me for about a day and tried to get them all out. After the fact, I thought maybe duct tape or packing tape and using it like a lint roller?
I can see how Karen's suggestion of salt and rubbing might help (or burn?). Either way, I hope you find something that works for you. Ugh! I've been there and don't envy you, that's why we no longer have the evil plants in our yard!!!! :)

I've always been told that honey works well. Not only is it antibacterial, but it will "pull" teeny tinies out of the skin. I've used it for slivers that were too small for tweezers and it has worked, but I've never had to try it for cactus. It's a suggestion. :-)
