We are about to get a new vacuum cleaner. The last two vacuums that we have had, started to get all clogged up after every use. We are looking to get a new that will last! Any recommendations?? Thanks.

What can I do next?

Hi Karen,
I LOVE my Kirby. I have had it for ten years (and knock on wood) it is still running great! I have 3 kids, 3 pets and lots of their friends (kids not animals) coming and going and it works great! Truly worth the investment!
Good Luck on your search.

Hi Karen...

If you are not looking to put out a lot of money for the vacuum in this economy, then I would highly recommend the Bissell Momentum. It is bagless. I have had mine for about 4 years and haven't had a single problem. I peronally love the ease of emptying the nice-sized dirt collection cup---it's a snap! And boy does it pick up the dirt! It has all of the extra on-board tools that you need---including the power paw, which works great! My only complaint is that it will sometimes tip over when I'm using the hose. When my Mom would come to visit she would sometimes vacuum for me and she always commented about how much more she liked my vacuum than her own so I bought one for her this past Christmas and she has done nothing but rant and rave at how much she loves it. I'm sure you can check out the reviews for it on Amazon.com I sure hope this helps! ~Kimberly

Hi Karen: What a coincidence I put up the same post last week and I got about 9 responses back. If you'd like check my post, but it was a tie between the Oreck and Dyson. My friend has an Oreck and I tried it out and I wasn't crazy about it, so I ordered the Dyson.

Hi Karen~

I have a Filter Queen and I LOVE it!! My Mom has had one my whole life (the same one I might add) and she still uses it!! They are the best!! Brand new they are expensive but I got mine on ebay for $150.00 and it's as close to new as you can get without actually buying a new one. You should go on there and look there are usually quite a few on there!!! They are not upright vaccums though.

I love my Kirby. I've had it for 21 years and it still runs like new and works great. I paid $700 for it, which seemed like a fortune back then. (I've had it in for a couple tune-ups and cleaning over the years.) I just don't like their high pressure sales practices, so maybe it you could find a gently used one somewhere that would be better. I would love to have a new one someday, but I don't want them coming to my house pressuring me, and that's the only way you can get a new one. (I didn't feel like that years ago when I got this one. But now I think they try to force the sale. Unfortunate for them because they have such a good product.)

I have to toss in a vote for Electrolux - an investment up front, but - I've had mine for 10 years and it's still going strong. The motor in it can't be beat - just a couple visits to Electrolux Service for general maintenance a couple of times, (very cheap).

My mother always had an Electrolux, so it's what I grew up with and all other vacuums (especially uprights) just never compared.

good luck.
