I just moved to the area and also just found out I'm pregnant with my second child. Can anyone recommend an OB GYN to care for me during my pregnancy?

What can I do next?

C.,

Creekside Womens Care ###-###-####) in West Ashely at the St. Francis Hospital. There are 4 doctors in the practice (Ezman, Frampton, Caire, and Simmons). I've been seeing Dr. Simmons for 18 years (since I moved to Charleston in 1990), but Simmons no longer delivers babies. Dr. Ezman and Dr. Frampton delivered my first via c-section. Dr. Ezman is a wonderful woman and a great doctor! Good luck! D. H.

Dr. Straud! I recommend you ask your friends though. I was given the advice to go to Dr. Christi Geier and was excited after what 2 older women had said about her. But I did not have a good experience through my pregnancy with her. I did not use her for my third pregnancy and delivery. Dr. Geier kept telling me how she'd worked through her pregnancies and was very dismissive about my daily morning (which was all day) sickness. I can see why my elderly friends liked Dr. Geier because she puts on this sticky sweet act at first and acts like your best friend. When my visits increased, I grew frustrated by her talking about herself, playing cutesy with this smile and look which seemed misplaced during serious times, and not having time for my questions. I think she may be better suited for the elderly women and their issues because they aren't looking for as much depth as those going through pregnancies. I love Dr. Straud!!! All the depth, good solid answers, compassion and I never left Dr. Straud feeling rushed or without answers. Dr. Geier reminds me of that girl in class who made decent grades but got by being "so cute" (she is looks-wise okay) and then spends the rest of her life capitalizing on it. If you do any research, she doesn't list her undergraduate training and all is vague and that is usually for good reason. If you're looking for someone that tries to draw you in by being dynamic and acting like you're her new best friend, use Dr. Geier. If you're concerned about risks or complications with your pregnancy or baby, use Dr. Straud.

Hi C.:

Dr. Christi Geier is great. She is located in Mt. Pleasant and you would most likely have to go to East Cooper Hospital or MUSC for delivery. You should check with your insurance and see if she would be in your network before proceeding.

Lesley at Charleston Birth Place is an amazing, great midwife. She has been delivering babies (mostly intervention FREE) for about 20 years. The birth center is Charleston's first and is a calm and welcoming place. The number is ###-###-#### and the website is charlestonbirthplace.com

I love Dr. Christy Geier at East Cooper Women's Center, an MUSC affiliate, but they deliver at East Cooper. She is amazing! All the OB's in that office are women too, which I like!

I saw quite a few OBs while pregnant recently (I had quite a few medical problems). My main doctor was at MUSC Womens Health on the peninsula. Out of the doctors I saw, I really liked Dr Anderson, Dr Villers and Dr Savage (the first was a man, the last two women, in case you have a preference). Dr Soper (a man) was also pretty good. I think any of those would be a good choice, and the practice group worked very well together, was easy to get appointments with even at the last minute, and the other staff members (nurses and admin assistants) were great too.
