My mother thinks she would like to get one... but they seem so gimmicky (sp?). Do any of you Mammas know of anyone who has one? What has your/their experience been?

What is the cost? How is it installed.... is an existing tub or shower removed? Does insurance cover any of it? What are the hidden costs of it? have you ever heard of one leaking?!! Any information would be VERY helpful!! Thank you Mammas

What can I do next?

I know nothing of the cost or insurance, but I used to work in an assisted living facility that had one. It was the only tub in the building, the individual rooms had only large walk in showers, but for the residents who liked baths, it was wonderful! They could get in safely, fill it up, enjoy their bath, drain the tub, dry mostly off, get out safely, finish up and be out of there with no worries! The water makes bathing a slippery activity anyway, and when you add in climbing over the side of a tub it gets even more dangerous (especially for less steady folks.) From a safety standpoint, for someone who loves baths, I would think it might be a decent investment.

We only did the research phase...

It was very expensive...over 10K.
It was not covered by insurance.
It sits in the place of the existing tub if you wish. That is the reason for the high cost...you have to pay a contractor to come in, tear out and prep the surrounding area and then have it finished off after the tub is installed.

But this info is based upon my BIL's input who only gets one quote. And his word is gold, so no further options were explored. I say this tongue in cheek, b/c he pays too much for everything.
