Hi! I was just wondering if any of you sew for a hobby? I never pictured myself sewing, but my mom bought me a sewing machine and once I got started, I really enjoyed it. If not, what is your hobby?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I mostly sew childrens clothing. I love making appliques even though the really detailed ones are very time consuming. I have tried making purses but I am not very good at that.

I can't imagine life without knowing how to sew. I've been sewing, knitting, crocheting, cross stitching and other needlework since I was 4. I came from a family where my grandparents went through The Depression and my great-grandma and my grandma taught me all that stuff. I've made wedding gowns, prom gowns, baptism outfits, etc., etc. It's something I've always enjoyed doing and will continue to do until my body &/or mind no long allows me to do so.

I sew and love it. I design and make dresses for my daughter. I also crochet and do all kinds of crafts. right now I am crocheting Christmas stockings for my family. It's a nice hobby to be able to take with when my DD is in soccer or ballet.

I've been sewing since wanting curtains for my first house 20 years ago. I'm 44. My favorite things to sew are outfits for the kids and I lean towards easy to put together items like pants with elastic or side zip, simple tops with embellishments like applique, jumpers where I add 2 decorative pieces of elastic on top on each side instead of buttons. I love making coats and baby shoes as well. Christmas stockings, pillow covers, table runners. Useful items like plastic bag holders, car seat canopy, changing table skirts. I've always sewn the entire nursery for each baby. Some sites with free or inexpensive patterns www.madebyrae.com (can't beat the Big Butt Baby pants), www.sewmamasew.com.

What are you sewing? I seem to do it more for projects that just fun (harder with two little ones right now). I also used to crochet, do counted cross-stitch, read, pottery and cook.

Sewing is going to be the next thing I learn if I ever have time! I taught myself to knit a few years ago and have been working on increasingly more difficult projects. I love that you have to think things through and really concentrate on some parts, and at other times you can just sit and watch a movie and hardly pay attention to what you're doing. I also never pictured myself knitting or sewing or doing any of the domestic things I do as an at-home mom!

hobby? - what's that? :)

I sew barbie clothes and mend stuff. Sometimes I'll sew for Hween. I'm not very good - I was never really taught, so I just wing it. I could never make real clothes. I have made curtains for my sons room and our toy room. I've also made Tshirt pillows from some of my kids favorite shirts they outgrew. They love them and use them when we travel! I like to be crafty - usually more around holiday time. I like to do projects with the kids. I love wind chimes and was just thinking the other day that I might start making them after the holidays are over.

ohh, i'm am so bummed. There are several hobbies that I thought i was into that i've realized, i haven't touched for over 5 years. scrapbooking, crocheting, sewing. I never felt super confident about my alibilities but i enjoyed what i did, and still occasionally buy supplies, Now between not having time, and no inspiration I've had to come to terms that at this point in my life. I am not a sewer, nor a scrapbooker. I hope there comes a time when i sit by the fire in my rocker and knit or something but it just isn't right now.

I also like to sew. I just made a quilted wall hanging for my sister for Christmas, and a doll for my daughter for her first Christmas. I also crochet and make jewelry (my passion!) Wish I had more time for all of it! Oh, and scrapbooking, too!

I just started sewing a few months ago too and LOVE it! I used to work in corporate america in upper managment and decided to quit 5 years ago to be a stay at home mom. Believe me, I NEVER pictured myself sitting in front of a sewing machine, but I am making some really cute things and I might even start selling some stuff at craft shows if I can find the time to make an inventory. Right now, I'm just working on Christmas gifts and baby gifts for friends. I really like doing it though. I've also taken up scrapbooking. Who knew I had so much hidden creativity! :-)

Yep I sew. My mom taught me when I was about 6 or 7. It a big thing in my family as most of the women on my mom's side sew just about everything. I make quilts, mostly baby blankets for my friends but do other little projects every now and then.

I do like to sew. And I will tell you a really awesome book that I have found. It's called The New Handmade: Simple Sewing for Contemporary Style (That Patchwork Place) by Cassie Barden. It taught me how to make bags. And now I love making bags. I have also made things like simple curtains, tree skirt, table runners. I have tried sewing clothing, but that still needs alot of work. Hehe! I like making things for the home and without patterns. I like to come up with my own style.
