Does the "Pooch" Ever Go Away????

I had my son at 40 and the pooch is driving me nuts. Maybe because of my age my skin just doesn't have the elasticity to rebound? Maybe because I had a C-section? Anyone found any good exercises to reduce this?

I have the same problem. I also had a c-section. I am 33 years old. I have tried doing sit ups but have found that I just get muscle cramps from doing this. If you get any good responses, let me know.

First of all, I must say isnt it a great thing? (NOT)!! They never told me that was guarenteed thing. I hate it. I have 4 children, 2 natural and 2 c-section. I cant get mine to go all the way down and the last child is 3 and will be 4 in october. I have found that what helps is tummy crunches and putting my child on my feet as I lay on my back and lift him up in the air and lower him to the ground and lift him straight up again. I have lost 3 inches from mine since I started.
Other than that I am ready for a tummy tuck...
let me know if you hear of any other good ideas.
Have a great day.

I had a C-section too. My Dr. told me that the c-section pooch will never go away, but I can strenghten all the muscles around it. I had my first ( and only) baby at 28. I'm 30 now.
Sorry! I know- it sucks!! Although, the rest of me looks pretty good- I think. If i cover the poochy part- just below my belly button, I don't look too bad. I have cellulite which i detest, but i have to remember that i was HUGE. I'm petite- 5'1" or 2. I was 137 before I got pregnant. Now I'm 149. I was 170 before I went ot the hospital. I haven't really lost weight, but I've gained muscle, and my boobs haven't gone down much. I'm now a 36DD!! I feel too big!
Well, anyway, just keep excersing for your HEALTH. You'll lose weight too, but if you think about doing it to keep your heart and lungs healthy, it seems to work better.
I hope that helps.

if you do choose to do sit ups don't do sets. do as many as you can at one time... this will tone the muscle instead of building it. also try to keep good posture and your tummy tightened as much as you can during the day.

Hi M.,
I have 5 kids and they were all c-section. I had my last baby 3 yrs ago at the age of 43. I had the vertical cut with my older 4 and bikini cut with my last child. I was able to loose the pooch with all but this one. Now that I am starting menopause I may not be able to work it off as fast as I want.
Walking, set-ups, kid lifts, and any other work outs that includes your son. will help. This is what I have been doing and have lost 1 inch a year.
Also talk to your doctor, you may have other issues. Your thyroid will help you gain, make you really tired.
I hope this helped

Good luck... it completely depends on the person, the skin type and the elasticity in your skin. Lucky me, I have no elasticity in my skin at all (I started having kids at 19). I get to be saggy my whole life unless I get surgery.
I've heard some neat things about spa treatments... maybe you could look into that if you are concerned... or a dermatologist?

I think we are just all screwed!!! LOL. I have been fighting with this weight loss....just keep on going. I lost 10 pounds in the last 4 mos or so. Trying to eat better, and more often. Now I am walking about 2 to 3 times a week. And now I am going to work into a sit-ups twice a week. I have the same problem - my legs are looking great - I am loosing the weight in my face, but I have this HUGE Tire around my waste and the hang down (I too had a C-Section). I got an olipticle machine for Christmas - got onto that thing a few times - then realized I can't start eating better, working out, and work, and being a mom and wife all at the same time - So, I am taking baby steps...one thing at a time....eat better (smaller portions and more often), then add the exercise (walking, weights, cardio, sit-ups). It is just a process. A long long process.

But - If all you have left is the pooch and you have lost most of the baby weight - you might just have to go in for the snip and tuck. Good luck.

I have had three kids and weigh 110 and still have a pouch. I think plastic surgery will fix it. (ha!ha!) No matter how much I have done in the past I still have loose skin. I heard colon hydro therapy helps. www.livegreeneasy.com

it might be your age as well. My friends mom is having the hardest time loosing her pooch and her children are 21 and 16. She is 50 this year, and can't seem to get it gone...(she was a personal trainer 20 years ago). I think your body chemistry changes I read somewhere that the fat is different as you get older and it becomes much harder to get rid of. I'd do a google search on it..

I was told that sit ups, which most people use to get rid of stomach fat, doesn't really help. It doesn't get rid of the fat but it does build up muscle which then pushes the stomach out further. A friend goes to 24 Hour Fitness and she is doing exercises to strengthen her back to lessen her stomah pooch.

If you can afford and have time to attend a work out center such as 24 HOur Fitness and pay extra for a personal trainer the trainer will built a program for you.

I don't want to believe that it will never go away! Have you lost all your other weight? I had my last child c-section at age 39 and I too have that pooch. Never had it with my other 2 deliveries at a much younger age. If I can't get rid of it by the time I loose the rest of this weight I will save for lipo(sp?)suction!

i also had a c section 10 months ago , i walk 1 hour every day and i still have a belly!i recently read in the parents mag that we need to suck our tummies in through our belly button as much as possible through out the day,sit ups can sometimes make it stick out more...unless your one of those freaks who go back to normal immediatly, haha:)
