Does Your 8 y.o. Wear Deodorant?

My 8 y.o. just flat out stinks by the end of the day. He doesn't smell like bo, but just stinks of something fierce. He showers daily and is a hard player while at school. One problem is that when you say "hot" he sweats. So is it time for him to wear deodorant or if not how can we tell?

TIA

What can I do next?

The only thing that smells on my kid is feet. That's more because of the shoes which I started putting baking soda and rolled up newspapers.

Careful with deodorant...lots of chemicals...not good for growing kids. Use something organic from a health food store.

My son(now 9) had been wearing it since around age 7. He just stinks! It does help and he also uses a body spray once in a while. I agree with looking for one without aluminum. We use Arm and Hammer brand.

If he smells, let him wear it!!! There is no age restriction on deodorant.

It was 9 for my son. The whole class of boys seemed to hit the big B.O. that year. And of course, it gets worse as they hit the teen years, even late teens. I ended up having to buy the expensive Degree and Secret Clinical Strength products. (Target is cheaper than the drug store unless there's a big special.) Btw, that was recommended by the dermatologist, including using it at night time before bed AND in the morning.

I wouldn't pay for that unless you find that the regular stuff isn't working, of course.

There are many years ahead of you of smelly boy smells. It's just the way it is! LOL!

My daughter does and she is 9, but we started when she was 8. My son is 7 and will be 8 in April. No signs of it yet for him, but maybe when it gets warmer he will need it. Not sure yet. All kids are different in how their hormones display themselves. If he needs it,get it for him. No big deal.

Sure sounds like it.
Get something without aluminum, like Toms of Maine.
How about a body wash or Dial antibacterial soap too?

If he smells probably. I would ask your pediatrician what he thinks. I did.

No, but he doesn't sweat much. I don't ever wear deodorant, even when working out. I simply don't sweat or stink. I've talked to my doctor about it, and he said to be careful to drink lots of water so as not to overheat and have a heat stroke, but that apparently I just don't sweat (or need deodorant). So far my youngest son seems to be a lot like me.

His best friend who just turned 9 already wears deodorant, and needs it! ;)

My oldest son started using deodorant at about 11 (maybe 10, I can't remember exactly).

This is so funny, my daughter told me last week that my 7 yo grandson needed deodorant. I was in the $ store last saturday & bought him some. I gave it to him Monday & you would have thought that it was Christmas. He was sooo excited. He told me that he was a young man now & needed it for BO. His dad sweats alot, so I guess it is normal.

Yeah. This summer I noticed it with my son, too. He was 8 at the time. I started having him use deodorant, and it made all the difference.

Yep. My daughter has since kindergarten. Some people say that it's because of diet and kids developing sooner, but we eat no fast food or soda and as organic as we can afford. And until last year we were vegetarians. I think some kids just need it sooner than others... don't know why.

Why not? Everyone has a different body and some may need it more than others. As for a boy (kid), it's never to early to teach them how to take care of themselves. Besides deodorant buy him some spay Axe cologne. That
way a good scent is given off. Good luck....

My 5yo did for a few months (normal hormone flux then back to no needing it).

Then ditto at 7 or 8.

Full time at age 10.
