Does Your Child Have Allergies? If So, When Did They Start?

My daughter has allergies, I think they started when she was about three. I have been noticing that my son is sniffly and he's three now. I can't seem to tell if he's coming down with a cold or if it's allergies.

When did your child's allergies begin? I'm talking about seasonal allergies.

What can I do next?

My daughter is 12 and her allergies started around age 3. This last week has been terrible here in NJ. Just had her at the allergist yesterday and we've upped her meds. A good allergist will know how to tell if it's allergies or sick. Find a good allergist so your little one's system doesn't get overwhelmed with all this pollen flying around - sometimes a little prevention of the allergy triggers will help to keep it from going into a sinus infection or cough. My daughter has asthma too, so we have to nip the allergies in the bud. Good luck

Our little one has been spared thus far, but my seasonal allergies hit in the tween years. They let up while i was pregs and while DS was a newborn, but seem to be back with a vengance now. :)

Good luck to you and yours,

I had one child with allergies at 3 months old. She had rashes and coughing, bronchitis, like symptoms and had to be on a steroid that young. I had others get it around 3-5 with asthma, some got hay fever later on but can't remember the ages. With allergies it's a clear drainage from the nose usually. There can be a fever with some but usually not. You should get your child to an allergist to find out what he is allergic to specifically. We have grandchildren with asthma, food allergy in some, and seasonal for others so you need to find out what triggers it and then get medication to help with it. Allergies are miserable and I know this first hand. :-(

My middle son has allergies the worse, I guess it was around 2-3 years old. About 2 years ago, one of his lymph nodes became swollen, we didn't know what it was at first, but after wards, that was the results. He had a large gumball size cyst on his neck, that was the only time his allergies didn't act up. I always tease him now, would he rather have this huge lump on his neck or have his allergies, well, he's never answered, but I think I know.

My dtr was 2, the runny nose was so constant and gross. My son had a touch of them at 1, and really started at age 2. My other dtr started to have mild allergies around age 12. We started with claritin or lortatadine and it worked. Still works for my oldest but my middle dtr and son really need zyrtec or cetirizine. I can't use the generic, brand name only. Good luck, it's going to be a tough season this year.
