We have tried all sorts of testing and meds but wanted to see if anyone had a dog with skin allergies to see what did/did not work for you. Interested to see if there was a dry dog food that lessened the symptoms? She is on a grain free food but that hasn't helped at all. Anyone use Blue Buffalo? Wanted to ask those with experience before switching again. Thanks!!
Finally figured it out. If your dog has problems with "allergies" like mine, the answer turned out to be probiotics!!! That's all she needed! Within 4 days, she's a new dog!!!! FYI-we used Probios and you can get it on Amazon!
Blue Seal pork and barley has helped my dog. We also feed rice and lamb wet food. No corn, no soy, no wheat.
He still gets itchy but it is so much better. No more chewing himself open.

i've got a buddy who's got a dog with miserable skin issues. she puts tea tree and water in a spray bottle and spritzes him twice a day and massages it in, and swears it's been a gods-send.

I think it varies on the dog. We tried blue buffalo and or allergenic dog was a mess. Now we buy Diamond Naturals and he does well with it. My local pet store doesn't carry it, so I buy it on Amazon. If I forget, I can use pro-plan.
Our Jack Russel is allergic to Chicken and Soy, so we buy special food as well. We have the best luck with the Costco Kirland brand Duck and Rice I believe. They also make a Turkey Rice one that is good as well. We also have to buy their cat food because if the dog eats the cat food he will get sick if it has Chicken or soy.
My mom works at a pet store and she uses Royal Caanan and Taste of the Wild for her dogs, but we can't afford it. And, honestly, our guy likes the Kirkland better.
Natural Balance is an excellent food to try for dogs with allergies.
Look into dehydrated dog food. I'd never heard of it, until our vet recommended it to help prevent further problems with bladder stones in our dog. I remember the reviews online showing a lot of people using it to help with dog skin allergies.
We get Honest Kitchen brand through Chewy.com (site has a ton of reviews). It's so natural, it can be consumed by people.
With the dehydrated food, you mix it with water.
My dog (Boston Terrier) has has skin issues on and off since I got her at 10 weeks. She does eat Blue Buffalo wet food and treats.
I give her a probiotic everyday and I used a supplement to help clean her blood of toxins which has helped the most. She also needs a bath at least once a week and then I put coconut oil on her so she doesn't dry out.
We tried prescription foods and they made her sick.

Our dog has flea, environmental, and food allergies. We feed him Hill's Z/D. It's expensive ($30 for an 8-lb bag), but it's cheaper than constant trips to the vet for antibiotics and steroids because he's tearing holes in his flesh. He gets Marsh Dog treats - they're made from nutria meat, which does not trigger his allergies. He also gets raw carrots as a treat, and deer hooves as chew toys. He gets a weekly bath with oatmeal shampoo.

I just began using their food for my German Shepherd so I can't provide a true testimonial yet. However, he LOVES their food and I really feel like it has already improved his dry, flaky skin. We are still transitioning with his old food though, so I hope he will be perfect in the next month or so. He actually goes and sits by the dog food as meal time gets closer and that's not something he's done in the past. I also got him some joint support chews and salmon oil for his coat.

We use Taste of the Wild. Our dog has an allergy to fleas as well as food issues and takes prednisone daily. She has to go in and have blood tests to make sure the prednisone isn't harming her liver but it's worth it! I have her on a very low dose. have you already tried prednisone? My husband switches food brands every so often and she always has issues so it's back to Taste of the Wild. Haven't tried blue buffalo due to the cost. We worked our way up the dog food price chain and when TotW worked we stopped there lol !!
All I can tell you is our vet says Blue Buffalo isn't the "best," only the most expensive.
Our vet recommends Pro Plan. But it's not grain free.
I'd ask your vet.
Try to avoid the food dyes red 40, yellow 5 etc.
