Donating Maternity Clothes

I want to donate my maternity clothes and am looking for recommendations. I don't want to give them to a place where they put it in their stores and sell it, rather have it go to women in need who can't afford to pay for the clothes. Thanks for any help!

What can I do next?

Try calling some of the women's shelters in town. There are some on High St. that will take them. Can't remember the name. Also there are a lot of Catholic organizations that will take them and give them to young mothers in need. Hope this helped.

Birthright, they help women with Pregancies, mostly lower income and those at risk for having abortions. http://www.birthright.org They have stores but this is to raise money for the cause. I've donated to them for years and feel they are a very worthy of the donations.

I definately recommend PDHC (Pregnancy Decisions Health Centers) as I know that the give everything away (baby clothes, maternity clothes, cribs, etc.) with no strings attached; but they also deliver great help, counseling, and love to each woman who comes in for a free pregnancy test.
I'm sure some of the other suggestions are great, too, but I personally have gone to PDHC and saw for myself what they offer to women in need (and I also volunteered at a similar pregnancy center in another city.)

Once Upon a Child is affiliatated with a maternity resale shop. Maybe they know of someone or somewhere that you can take them. Also, there has to be a women's shelter in the area. Maybe one of the hospitals maternity wards can help, or even Children's. Don't know of anything certain, just throwing out ideas. Good luck

If you haven't decided already, maybe you could check out the Westside Free Store. This is a store that gives things to people who can't afford them including clothes, toys and furniture.

If you are interested, give them a call at ###-###-#### - during their store hours which are Monday 10:00 am TO 1:00 pm, Thursday 3:00 pm TO 6:00 pm, Saturday 12:00 pm TO 3:00 pm.

Have you thought about Pregnancy Decision Health Centers?? They counsel women who are considering abortion. I believe they have homes for mothers to stay until they have the baby. Look them up under "Pregnancy Counseling" or even under "abortion". They would welcome your maturnity clothes

CHOICE has a donation room and they will give you a tax receipt. You can look on Yahoo Yellow pages for their number. Many of their clients are uninsured and cannot afford a hospital birth.

Two places I know of are
Pregnancy Distress Centers (one of West Broad at Wilson)
Westside Ministries on Sullivant

Both give items away and PDC is to help women who have made the choice to have their babies inspite of single motherhood and, often, without any family or other support.
