Don't forget the good old Salvation Army! However they do not always accept toys & equipment due to many recalls. But clothes are always welcome!
I just read in another post that many moms don't know what to do with the stuff their kids outgrow - and they do outgrow things so quickly! Obviously if you have a friend to pass them on to that is wonderful! Craigslist and Freecycle are good websites; however, there are other places that will accept donations of children's stuff if you are looking to donate to people who need it. I think that especially these days there are a lot of people who could use the help. I only know of a few charities in NYC, so if people know of good places to donate perhaps you could share the info so people will know where to go.
Here are the ones I know of:
Room to Grow (roomtogrow.org)
Children's Aid Society (childrensaidsociety.org)
Baby Buggy (babybuggy.org)
Children's Hope Foundation (childrenshope.org)
The Family Justice Center (FJC.org)
Happy New Year.

Thanks for posting - it was something I had been wondering about.
Hi B.,
What a great idea you have to donate to those less fortunate. I just wrote a blog on options for giving away gently used toys or clothing on my website www.playonwords. Here is the article:http://playonwords.com/blog/2009/01/01/happy-new-year-ide...
Since I am a speech pathologist and work in people's homes, I get to know families well and they often ask where they can donate kids things. I love to "redistribute" to those who really need these items.
Another local option is the Bridgeport Rescue Mission which now houses women. You can check it they take children's things.
Good luck! S. Artemenko
Hello, I just wanted to pass along another great place that takes donations. The organization is calledHousing Works. There are a couple of locations but the one I went to recently was located on 122 Montague Street between Henry and Hicks. ###-###-#### Just itemize your belongings. Fair market value bankrate.com will help you with figuring out the value of what you are donating. It was a positive experience. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
