Hi. Although you did not say why you do not want to get induced, I thought to share a positive inducement story in case you were nervous. I was induced after being 9 days late and was very scared due to various horror stories I heard. However, I actually had a really great experience & thankfully an uneventful labor. Being induced actually calmed me down because this was my first pregnancy & I was quite nervous about making it to the hospital in time etc. I tried lots of different things to go into labor on my own, but my daughter was nice & comfy!

Best of luck,
Y.

I, too, was induced with all three of my kids (a single and twins). I had no issues with the induction at all. They just gave me some pitocin and all went well. I was induced at 36 weeks 2 days (for medical reasons) but had absolutely no problems with it. Listen to your doctor. If he/she is recommending something for the health of your baby, do it, even if it doesn't comport with your idea of the ideal birth. I say this to you having lost my first baby... he was born still... so my philosophy is to do whatever you can do to get the baby here alive...

Good luck. I promise you, induction is not bad...

I ate tons of pineapple, drank raspberry leaf tea several times a day, walked a lot, doc stripped my membranes once, and I also did primrose oil suppositories. I have no idea what worked, if at all, but I did go into labor naturally a week past my due date. Good luck! I know it's so hard when the end is in sight!!

First, don't worry so much. Most 1st time moms are late and they don't induce until you are at least a week late unless there is a specific reason (like the baby getting too big).
Rent a yoga for pregnancy dvd. I got this one from netflix that has a special labor preparation workout which is supposed to help bring on labor:

Yoga will not only relax you (really important before and during labor), it could help you start to dilate.
Also, walk a lot and practice your breathing when you have a Braxton-Hicks. It will be good for the real thing.

This link below also has some information.

I would also second the Indian food- make sure you drink a mango lassi. We ate at my favorite place on a wed night and the owner told me the mango lassi is supposed to help. I had mild contractions all weekend and the following Monday my water broke. Of course, this could be coincidental but still, it can't hurt and it's full of calcium and vitamins.

Good luck!

I was induced at 40 weeks because there was a heat wave and I was starting to swell a lot. Although I didn't want to be induced and was scared, it actually worked out nicely. I made sure that I rested up before the induction and my husband and I had a relaxing dinner the night before. My parents were able to plan their schedule to be at the hospital with me which might not have been possible if I went into labor at some odd time. So if your doctors are concerned and really want you to be induced, don't worry - whatever happens, it will be great. Good luck.

Hi! Two things worked for me foe both kids. With my son, I ate Indian food. I am pretty sure it was spicy naan bread that did the trick. Other Indian women I meet seem to agree. The second thing I did with my daughter was to have sex. I ha a tough pregnancy with we and was ready to move thugs along. So I tree it, even though I had no drive at all. 24 hours later, my contractions began. Anyway, good luck. Your body will adjust to whatever comes your way, part of the miracle of birth!

hi
all the advice sounds good- including not to worry if you do need to be induced. you do have a few more weeks though as long as you and the baby are fine. i just wanted to add acupuncture. it can help with your nerves/heartrate as well as to help contractions get going. some practitioners take partial (or maybe total depending on your insurance) payment with insurance. good luck!

Try acupuncture. It worked for me. The most important thing though is to stay relaxed and do whatever s best for the baby.

I just want to second what another responder said below that you need to be your own advocate with this. As long as things are going well and you don't want to be induced, then in no way should you be pressured into doing so.
