They do have pumping bras....which have holes to put the each pump side through...and they you are "hands free"...they market them to working moms, I think. Hope that helps.
I am asking this question for my sister-in-law. She is having trouble with the coordination of pumping. She only does one side at a time because she can't figure out how to "balance" it. Is there a connector that she can use for her pump? She has the Medela pump in style double pump. I think there is something that exists (to give her an extra hand) but I haven't seen it in the stores anywhere. Any suggestions?

I used these very comfortable halter type tops with holes for the cups, I bought them at the hospital I had my daughter Rush Unversity Medical Center. You need two, they allowed my hands to be free to do other things while pumping---what lifesavers--I pumped for 15 months & my daughter had exclusive breast milk for the 15 months. I probably couldnt have done that without those halters, I used them at home & at work.
I got this tip from www.kellymom.com (they have tons of great ideas). I wore a regular nursing bra and used rubber bands to attach the horns to the bra and viola! hands free. It sounds weird but it was free and it worked. Here is a link to the picture: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/hands-free-pumping.html
I found it worked best with the nursing bras that left a hole (unlike the one pictures) and with some of my bras, to help hold it tighter I would then close the bra over the horn.
I too had this dilemma when I was pumping for our daughter. I took my old belly band, cut two holes so that the horns would fit through and, bingo! Hands free pumping!!! I know you can get special bras made for this, but they are expensive. I have also heard of women getting inexpensive jogging bras and doing the same thing so that the horns fit through. I only wish I had known this trick when I was pumping for our first child. Hands free pumping saved my sanity because I could actually read or surf the internet while pumping.
You can get a brace/holder for the pump, which will make it "hands free"...but you can also use a nursing top from Majama's (sold lots of places, including be-bye-baby in the city, but headquartered in Oak Park, IL). They have a Majama's only store on Harrison just off the 290 expressway (in Oak Park). Nordstrom also carries them. They have halter tops for nursing that hold the pump in place so you can actually double pump hands free. Majamas is the brand and name to look for. I have the same Medela PIS Advanced and Pumped exclusively for months. (I also bought the car adapter for long trip, extra equipment, etc). She should also make sure she has the right flange size - they make 4 sizes for the Medela equipment.
I bought the top for a friend w/triplets and a toddler so she could double pump hands free and she loved it as well.
Good luck!
Good Luck and please let me know if you need any specific information or have any other questions.
Hi there. Please do your SIL a favor and tell her to get a hands-free bra. It helped me so much to pass the time of pumping...I can be on the computer, read, watch tv...all with having my hangs available.
This is the one I have:

I know it looks silly, but trust me!! It'll help the pumping to be much easier.
It sounds like a lot of people already answered this. I haven't seen a connector, but a great bra exists that can help hold the pump in place hands-free.

I used this when I pumped at work. I bought it at my hospitals lactation center. I was able to read a magazine, make a phone call or just relax(as much as one can) while I pumped.
Hi Karla,
I have a great bustier that you can wear for hands-free double pumping. The brand is Easy Expression. You only use it for pumping, not to replace a nursing bra, but it is so great! I bought mine from a store in MI when I lived there -- it's available on their Website -- www.treecitydiapers.com for about $25. Best of luck to your sister-in-law.

Call a lactation advisor from your ped. They work wonders and are worth every penny! Then go to Be By Baby on Lincoln at Roscoe. They have a "bra" that handles pumps. Moms need to find peace and calm when pumping and nursing. The stress of "not doing it right" effects the milk and your happiness! Good luck! Nursing is worth the extra effort in the short term, it is so easy and happy in the long term for mom and babe1
I am a mom of three and pumped for all of them if she attaches the pumps to her breast place the neck of the pump between the pointing finger and the middle finger and massage with your thumbs with your hand in this position you can almost make it all the way around the breast. The pumps will be in place by the suction so when using the first and middle finger it is to just stabilize. And with the massage you get more milk out of the ducts.
hope this helps let me know if I can help

Has she ever tried just simply holding one side on with her elbow and forearm of the same side and then the other side with the same hand? That way will leave the other hand free for other things (like turning the pump on and off).

HI Karla,
I used the same type of pump when nursing my son. I found that if you turned the pump on to the let down setting, you could put one side on and the suction would hold it in place while you connect the other side. You can then support both sides when you switch the machine to the actual pumping cycle. I would then disconnect one side when I was done, while the machine was still on so it would hold the other side. I would put the collection bottle down on the counter and then turn the machine off and disconnect the other side, it basically would lose the suction. Hope that helps. I know sometimes it would have been nice to have a third hand when doing this, but this seemed to work for me. It does take a bit of practice, but it is doable.
Karla,
I think Medela sells a "bra" for this. It holds both sides while you pump so your hands are free. I think there are other brands out there as well. You can get them online through Medela.com or at Babies R Us. Hope this helps.
I think they sell a "bra" type thing at Be By Baby on Racine/Lincoln/Roscoe in the city. You attach the pump to the bra and can then be "hands free."
I am a working mom who pumped until about 1 1/2 yrs ago. I needed to work (answer phones, make calls and write) while I was pumping due to the demands of my job. I used a band that goes around the body with a strap over the neck and there are holes for the pump apparatus to go through. It is called the Made by Moms Pumping Band and can be found and bought on www.babycenter.com in the store. It retails for 34.99. It was the best thing I ever used. My co-worker had one and when I saw how it worked I got one. Easy to use and clean. The best ever!!!!

I know you have gotten tons of responses but I wanted to comment too... I am exclusively pumping and giving my daughter the milk in bottles. I found a busier bra online at
http://www.selfexpressions.com/eaexbuhafrpu.html
I love the bra because it allows me to pump both sides as well as do other things. I suggest getting 2 because one is always dirty! ;) Good luck to your sister in law.
P.S. online returns to the store were easy as well...the first one I bought was too small!
I got a "hands free bra" from Hinsdale Hospital lactation department. They sell them for $35. It has been fantastic as now I can work on the computer and pump at the same time! Hospital phone 630/856-9000, ask for lactation department. Good luck.
She needs a double pump boustier. Look on babycenter.com under breast pump accessories.
I bought the Easy Expression Bustier last month. I was hesitant to do so, at $35.00, what will all the other pumping supplies I was purchasing, but it was DEFINITELY worth it.
a pumping band (made by moms is the brand i had i believe) or medela's hand's free setup (sounds like it's been discontinued but might still be available in some online shops) were a lifesaver when i pumped both sides at once as i typically did. another idea is to modify a cheap bra (cut holes in each side) to stick the horns through and it works pretty much like the pumping band so sil can pump hand's free without having to buy much special equipment -- it needs to be a tight-fiting bra, though, with cups that aren't too flimsy or it probably won't hold the horns in position well enough for comfort or efficient pumping.
