Double Stroller Advice- 1 Month Old and 3 Year Old- How Long Will I Need It?

I have a 1 month old baby and an almost 3 year old toddler (not planning on any more kids). The toddler walks but likes the stroller when she's tired (even naps in it at times) and I can manage her more easily in the stroller than when she's walking. I usually like wearing the infant but it's not always practical (e.g if it's really hot or if he's already sleeping in the carseat I don't want to disturb him.) I''m considering a double stroller and am wondering how long I'll really need it; the one I really want is pretty pricey (Phil and Ted). We have a Civic and need something compact.

I'd appreciate your advice!

Thanks!

I have a sit n stand. My oldest NEVER sat in a stroller until I had my son when she was 27 months. They are now 4.5 and almost 2 and they still both like sitting in the stroller. I bought mine off Craigslist to be frugal and we only use it a couple of times a month. A little more lately because we've been taking walks in the evening. It is kind of nice to have the two of them together in one place when we go some place crowded like the mall or Disney.

If your daughter likes the stroller now, you might want to get a double because she will still want to be in it when the baby comes. You can always sell it later on Craiglist or something if you find you're not getting much use out of it.

Congrats on your pregnancy!

My daughter bought a double stroller when her youngest was a new born and oldest was 3. She said she wished she hadn't done so because her daughter insisted on walking shortly after that. She said she wasn't a baby anymore. She might have insisted on walking in part as a result of being sold on being a big sister. :)

unless you take lots of trips and outings you won't need it much. We only use our stroller for our three year old when we are on vacation or a the mall. both of these don't happen often.

I have a five year old and a two year old and we still use our double stroller for outings like the zoo and amusement parks. My oldest was done with her stroller until my son came along and she wanted to ride with him. Everyone told me I didn't need one but I didn't listen and was glad I didn't. We don't use it as often anymore but have absolutely needed it!

This really depends on your kids. I have a 4 year old daughter and a 10 month old son. There is no way that my daughter would get in the stroller -she says its for babies and she is too big for it. We bought the ride on board (they stand on it) that attaches to our single stroller if we are going for a long walk. She uses it if she gets sick of walking (which is almost never) but I think a double stroller would be a big waste of money at this point.

just get a carrier or sling for the baby and put the 3 yr old in a stroller. And really at 3 she CAN walk unless it's a really long way. She will learn to stay by you faster if she walks more often. My two were about 3 yrs apart and this is what we did. you can also use a harness if she keeps walking away.

don't go really pricey... i had a side by side.. which gives the 3 year old more leg room. It cost about 150... my son was the oldest.. and loved being in the carraige... He was in it will he was almost 5... my daughter was out of it by 3! she hated the carraige.... The side by side seemed big but it was great for the kids... they both had their own space.... good luck.. try pushing them around in the store .. to see which works good.
