Can you all tell me how you make your dressing. My husband wants sausage dressing . I have made it before & he liked it ( he's not remotely picky, though) . I didn't think it was that great. I did forget to put eggs in it , that could've been part of the problem. TIA.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Jennifer- I call it dressing because I'm not stuffing anything.

I've made pretty much this recipe the last two years and it's fantastic!

I use sweet Italian turkey sausage meat because we don't eat pork, and gala apples instead of Granny Smith. We use a large loaf of Italian bread and chicken broth rather than stock because that's what I keep on hand.

Good luck with it.

Brown the ground, sage sausage-then add diced onion, celery and a couple of diced Granny Smith apples. Saute until tender-add fresh thyme, parsley, and sage. Make your own croutons from fresh cubed bread. I usually use Ciabatta. Toss everything with a couple of sticks of melted butter and chicken broth-again-best if you make it yourself. I don't use eggs unless I am using leftover stuffing to make patties. The day after Christmas, I fry sausage stuffing patties, put a poached egg on top, and smother in hollandaise sauce-oh yea! A very Merry Christmas to you!

I know lots of people who swear by sausage dressing, but I don't like sausage, so I've never made it. I also don't put the giblets in it.

I always make enough to stuff the turkey with some left over that just gets baked in the oven in it's own pan. (My daughter went through a vegetarian phase). I just use dry stuffing mix, fresh onions, fresh garlic, fresh celery, some eggs, a little chicken broth, salt and pepper. You mix it with your hands kind of like making a meat loaf. If it seems like it will be too dry, add a little more liquid.

I don't have experience with sausage, but dressing, in general, is pretty easy.

There are a lot of different types of sausage, so hopefully someone has some advice for you on that front.

Best wishes!

Hi there!
I just wanted to say you may want to reword the title of your question, as not everyone knows the word dressing also refers to stuffing. We call it stuffing whether we are actually stuffing something or not (I think it's a regional thing.) Also, based on the title I thought it was going to be a question about clothing, or getting little kids dressed!
So if you change it to something like "sausage dressing/stuffing ideas" you'll probably get more answers/advice :-)
Oh, and I can't help you because someone else in our family always does the stuffing, er, dressing...
